    Fun fact: one of my neighbours is a typical, soft spoken English gent, approaching his 80's. His name is Brian Humphries. He happened to be the sound engineer for 3 of Floyd's albums, including Dark Side of thr Moon, as well as other bands. Recently, a TV documentary was made about the making of the album, in which Brian played a large role.

    As an opera singer you should definitely react to Pink Floyd's "Great Gig in the Sky" from Dark Side of the Moon. And then you should learn the history behind the female singer doing that gig. It's epic stuff. Edit: But do the original studio version. Here she does it single-handedly, while it usually takes three singers to sing the same part in the concerts.

    I saw the “Wall” concert at the LA Forum when I was in high school when the album was released (this song was on that album). This was Pink Floyd’s version of a Rock Opera. The orb (disco ball) had several different meanings and representations, you can look up the facts around that part of the show, but it wasn’t part of the Wall concert. This song, was one of those songs that took off on its own and morphed into a “parallel universe” that takes us on this journey that only a Pink Floyd song can do. Until I learned the alternate tuning on Mr. Gilmore’s guitar of the two solos, I pulled my hair out trying to learn it. Then after I learned the tuning secret, it still took me at least three years to even come close. It never dawned on me why Mr. Gilmore never struck a note on the guitar during the song until the solos. There are no chord shapes that can be transposed with that alternate tuning. Loved your reaction to this song… I’ve been told it has an even better groove after a hit of a purple micro dot. I don’t know 🤷‍♂️ for sure but I have this friend….

    I’m loving your reaction to Floyd. When you say it’s so different and unlike anything else, you are spot on. It’s real music by real musicians played live with no auto tune. Their concerts were a spectacle to behold, some had massive inflatable animals floating around, planes flying around and all sorts. Their music is very much based around a concept and are meant to be consumed as an album, just like a novel is made from many chapters. Hope you watch some more, you have a great channel, thank you.

    Pink Floyd are their OWN genre!. What you may have failed to notice is that the outside of the disco ball had just mirror glass reflecting white light. But since their early days, Pink Floyd were known for their use of coloured lighting. Now when the disco ball opens the reflective surfaces reflect all colours especially blues and purple. This can be seen hitting the audience and roof areas when only half the bal is open and contrasts nicely with the white light coming from he top half!

    Originally, during concerts for The Wall, the band would play the first half of the album while building a physical wall on the stage. The band would then play the 2nd half behind the wall. Towards the end there is a song called “The Trial” where the sentence is “Tear Down the Wall!” Back in the 1980’s George Waters (he had left Pink Floyd) said he would never perform The Wall again until the Berlin Wall came down. After the Berlin Wall fell, Waters organized a star studded performance of The Wall in Berlin at the site of the Berlin Wall. He used it as a fundraiser for the British equivalent to the US’s Wounded Warriors. It was breathtaking hearing tens of thousands of people chanting “Tear Down the Wall” where only months before had stood the infamous wall. That was my introduction to The Wall (I was in college at the time) and, while not a huge Pink Floyd fan, I would recommend the movie “Pink Floyd’s The Wall” to show some of the meaning behind the album as a whole.

    This is a part of what is called a rock opera. the entire album becomes a story. there is a movie of the same title using all the music. as read in the background of the band. Roger walters and the band had a parting of ways. he said the only way he would play with them again was if the berlin wall had come down. when it did they had a concert of the wall. my sister won 2 tickets and took my other sis. tons of stories... just awesome. fun fact the scorpions had played at that concert and it was while they were at the event that they were inspired for the song 'Winds of Change' that would be a cool reaction view to see... i love what you do... You are awesome! B-e-a-u-tifual!

    Maggie, you have to listen to Pink Floyd's The Great Gig in the Sky. Generally I'd always recommend listening to live versions, but for the Great Gig in the Sky you should listen to the studio version on the album The Dark Side Of The Moon. It was recorded in one take and no matter who they get to sing it live they have never equalled that first recording.

    Maggie, the Pink Floyd Track is from the Album "wish you was here" it's a tribute to their Fellow band mate who took one too many LSD Tabs and was permanently "out of it" with Brain damage. Hence "Hello is There Anybody in There" "I can see your lips moving etc" Hence the Title for the Album...WISH YOU WAS HERE. Love the channel. Stay well Happy New Year. Paul in Rochester UK 🇬🇧

    The greatest guitar solo of all time,,,

  • 2 жыл бұрын

    Did you ever notice that the giant circle of lights, just when the guitar solo begins, it starts to lay down horizontally? And at the very end, when the disco ball opens from the top, the circle turned back to its vertical position?

  • @insufferablethrashelitist9305
    @insufferablethrashelitist93052 жыл бұрын

    I saw them on this tour. It was stunning. That disco ball was really cool. Pink Floyd often conveyed a light, airy feel as though you're floating up in the clouds, which is what we get in this song. It amazes me, watching all these reaction channels... hard to believe there are so many people who've never heard all these great bands/songs that I've loved for so many decades, some my entire life. How is all this classic music also so obscure? I always think everyone knows all this music.

    This song is one of those that show the difference between a good, or even great, performer (vocal or instrumental) and a master. Good musicians can make you feel good or bad in your brain. An emotional response. Masters can reach into your soul and elevate you to another level.

    Pink Floyd ALWAYS takes you on a journey. Not many bands can do that (Tool can also). But nobody else can touch your soul through his guitar like this man! By the way, this is widely considered to be the greatest live rock guitar solo of all time.

    Fridays nights in the 80s the NYC Planetarium held a laser Pink Floyd show...the lights and the contact high made you feel like you were floating in space.

  • @MykeruMedia
    @MykeruMedia2 жыл бұрын

    The feeling of being in space, of floating, of time being drawn out, is appropriate considering the song is from the point of view of someone being pumped with drugs to force them out of a drug-induced coma. Knowing that makes the "chill" feeling a little sinister. As is the smokey reassuring voice in the beginning. What's really remarkable about the song is that it captures that point of view of someone being drugged up so they're not so drugged up with a lagging, slow motion feeling. In context, the song is kind of terrifying.

    To answer your audience question, there were over 14,000 people in this arena. I saw them the same year in Houston Texas at Rice Stadium, that got rained out. The sound was awesome. I can't imagine being in a enclosed arena like this. Davids solo for this masterpiece is a little different for each performance, but this one is the best of all of them IMO.

    The equipment for this show even in 1994 cost Pink Floyd close to $2,000,000.00 for the lights alone!! David Gilmour the guitarist and singer along with Rick Wright the keyboardist told Marc Brickman the lighting engineer "here", handing him a blank check, "see what you can do" !! You should definitely watch another song from this concert and since you like singing and beautiful music try from the same concert "High Hopes" very nice to listen to or "On the Turning Away" live from they're 1989 "Momentary Lapse of Reason" tour )!! I usually don't enjoy long commentaries but yours were actually very incisive, intelligent and enjoyable to listen to, keep up the good work!!! And one last comment any song from the 94 Pulse concert is visually and musically stunning!!

    I saw them live on this tour. The lights, stage and sound were the result of the band telling the production and design teams that money is no object and meaning it. You might really enjoy The Great Gig In The Sky. The album version is amazing and they did a live version on this tour that I think is just as good.
