Interrupting possible the best live guitar solo of the 20th century. Giving this dude big props - he just let himself get carried away by the cascading music.

I saw this same show in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap froged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION… I have seen Pink Floyd 4 times. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all. I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know, and I know all the great ones.

I can totally vibe with you. In the mid 80s I saw them for the first time. Before they started this song, they blew a HUGE cloud of dry ice fog out over the crowd. When they went into the chorus, "A distant ship smoke on the horizon...we are only coming through in waves..." they had this cool laser light show with a green laser painting an image in the fog above us of waves. So it looked like you were under water with the ocean waves cresting above you. It was undoubtedly among the most surreal experience I have ever had. I caught myself staring slack-jawed at the spectacle. I looked around, and everyone else was standing slack-jawed too, so I figured I was okay. LOL

@@RaymondBCrisp exactly …I saw them at Nassau Coliseum, Madison Sq Garden, LA Coliseum for the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour and Yankee and Giants Stadium for the Pulse Tour. At the indoor shows when I looked up at the ceiling it was a cloud of smoke the entire arena was high and when the bed came flying down and exploded during Time, it was insane. The whole vibe was just indescribable. It’s sad that we will never be able to experience something like that again. I also feel sorry for the kids today who don’t have a clue as to what it’s like to go to a real concert .

Back then, Pink Floyd filled the Earls Court seven times within 14 days always with a day off to check the gigantic equipment and I saw this concert in 1994 in Cologne's soccer stadium, together with 75,000 fans. With my 58 years now I have been to dozens of partly very big concert events but what I was able to experience in Cologne has beaten everything. At that time a good friend of mine lived about 500m as the crow flies and could see the arena directly from his balcony. He told me later, when the block with the encores: Wish you where here, Comfortably Numb and especially Run like hell - kzread.info/dash/bejne/eWaim8F6nae6obw.html, was played, the whole stadium looked from the outside like the colorful glittering spaceship at the end of Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" after landing, because the light show could of course be seen from the outside through the distances between lower, middle and upper stand. Until then, Genesis were the absolute specialists for composed light shows for me. After 2 hours of watching and hearing it was clear to me that there is probably no more or better. And of course the overall experience of light and sound is inextricably linked. When the sphere was still closed, it rotated and turned the stadium into a huge disco by the spotlights directed at it. When it opened, lasers were directed at it from various positions, reflected by the mirrors on it, which in turn were reflected back by mirrors fixed around the stadium roof and other mirrors distributed around the stadium near the ground, creating indescribable effects. You can't see this on the concert video because they made these setups only in stadiums and really must have been there because it's literally indescribable ! In the preannouncement of the concert it was promised that, regardless of where one´s position in the stadium is, listen to at least stereo if not even quatro. They implemented this advertising promise in such a comprehensive and impressive way that I will never forget this bombastic sound experience together with this indescribable light show. And to this day, when I hear this piece, especially during the guitar solo i get goose bumps all over my body and it leads me to another dimension ! EVERYTIME ❗️❗️❗️👍

Most comment on his ethereal guitar playing, but that voice, it’s truly the voice you want to hear whilst breathing your last breaths!! Made my day Brotha!!

No one plays guitar quite like David Gilmour. The emotion, feel, and expressiveness of Gilmour is unmatched by any other Rock guitarist imo. I've been a Pink Floyd fan since the release of their 'Dark Side of the Moon' album in 1973, I was 17 years old att. Pink Floyd was/is a Rock band formed in London in 1965. They have sold more albums than any other band in history, (450 million!), except for The Beatles, who are #1 at over 600 million albums. If you love guitar solos there's more from Gilmour, from this Pulse concert. like 'Sorrow', 'High Hopes', Learning to Fly', and many more just from that show.

First rule : Keep your eyes open for the entire performance. The lights are Highly choreographed with the music to amplify and magnify the emotions in the music. You want to bring this full circle. Watch and react to David Gilmour Live in Pompeii concert. For the Pulse concert he was in his late 40s. For Pompeii Gilmour was in his 70s. A 70 yr old man in a black Tshirt taking the whole world to school and teaching them what music is supposed to be. He performs all of Pink Floyd's Supreme hits with his own band. Performing in the Oldest amphitheater on the planet.

Pink Floyd is SO GOOD, they could put out an album with no lyrics- just instrumentals- and it would still sell. The lyrics only make it better. The vocals enhance it to the point where it becomes it's own genre.

The boy bands with auto tune and put together by producers will never be able to touch these legends. Now check out "Run like Hell", "Sorrow" and "one of these days" all from "pulse"

David Gilmour (guitar & vocals) is an iconic talent... He wasn't an original member of Pink Floyd - he joined in 1968 after their founding guitarist/vocalist Syd Barrett suffered a mental deterioration and was let go. It was tough, cos Barrett was Gilmour's friend from when they were kids. Gilmour was not a prolific songwriter like Barrett, but he could play guitar remarkably, sing Pink Floyd songs, and compose + produce music for the band to record.

I have heard this song for 39 years now because of my mother. No telling how many times I’ve listened to throughout those years and still today I get so emotional to the point of tears. She was a teenager during the 70’s and I saw her struggle through so much and I really miss her. She was a great mother and I wish I could have done so much more for her than I did. Raising a family of your own will keep you from being able to do more. Pink Floyd will go down in history as the greatest group ever to exist. Second to them will be Led Zeppelin.

There are bands, then there is Pink Floyd, there are singers then there is David gilmour, the entire package is more than the sum of anything you've ever experienced! You are right and your assessment that it is magical, Pink Floyd gently takes your soul out of your body and places it on a cloud, and when you hear their music you just float away, your soul just dances from cloud to cloud with each note played that is the magic of Pink Floyd.
