The way Eddie Van Halen put it into words is best way I've heard David Gilmour explained. "David Gilmour is the benchmark of less being more. He has proved that shredding and fast playing is not the benchmark of mastery level. Gilmour never wastes a note; he builds his solos like a painter; every note, every bend, every tonal inflection has merit...David's solos paint a picture in the minds of his listeners. Something that really is a testament of his talent as a guitar player"

Dude, it's really the truth. It's a lot easier to play things fast although it seems contradictory. Both are amongst my favorites but Gilmore never wastes a note. It's crazy. But neither did SVG. It's all about the soul of the player.

It was May 1994 in Raleigh, NC. David was playing this solo and then the lights hit that crystal ball that is as big as a house. The whole stadium was in a trance. All 60,000 plus people were slowly spinning into euphoria. This was the penultimate song that is only rivaled by High Hopes. I will never forget the experience.

Amazing. 😁

I got May and September 1994 in Atlanta. The first show I was way up in the nosebleeds and you could see the mirrored ball raise up from the center console but we didn't really know what it was until the lights hit it. One of those experiences that you have trouble explaining to someone who didn't see it too. The second show in September I had 8th-row dead center and some excellent LSD. That was the greatest concert experience of my life.

@@Marsday7 I'm 18 and what you said is 100% accurate- eventually, we hit a age where- we become curious of things the generations before us enjoyed. It may come from something you heard from your parents/elders or of just pure wonder of what it was like back then. Music is this magical thing that can truly make you travel back to another time- whether it be the future, or the past. The age I was when I had this 'music revelation', was 15 too. so 3 years now, for these past 3 years I've gotten into a uncountable amount of bands/artists and I'm glad I adopted this love for music. prior to 3 years ago, I just listened to radio hits, mainstream stuff, music from certain fandoms lol, and what I grew up hearing. While I love the this version on the Pulse Tour in my opinion the song soars right to the heavens on the Delicate Sounds of Thunder tour. In the past music had meaning. It was not about look how sexy I am or look how fast I can play, it was about substance. It had soul. It was unique to every artist. Now they all copy each other to try to get attention. It was real back in the day. Pink Floyd was the stranger on the block but it had soul and deep meaning. Like Zepplin, it had meaning and soul. Today very few can do that. VERY FEW STAND OUT AS IT ALL SOUNDS THE SAME. We had it good in the 70`s because music was real and nobody was trying to hord in on someone elses sound. That is what is needed today. Real artists going for the real feel of music not the quick sales that don`t last.

Your reaction has all of it. First of all, the reason I watch reaction videos is to see someone else feel what I felt the first time I heard that song. It is such a good feeling. That usually is good enough for me, but King KTF, you also have great analysis. Until you pointed out the impact that having no human voices in big chunks of this song, I don't think I would have ever realized how tightly packed, sonically, music is today. You also grabbed the best lines. Those were the most profound, in my opinion. Great video. Thank you.

This song is about a disconnect between a doctor and their patient. It was inspired by founding band member Syd Barrett's battle with schizophrenia. If you compare the 2 sections there is a total disconnect, and Dave Gilmour is singing the patients point of view. Consider the words: - First the doctor: Hello? (Hello? Hello? Hello?) Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me Is there anyone home? Come on now I hear you're feeling down Well I can ease your pain Get you on your feet again Relax I'll need some information first Just the basic facts Can you show me where it hurts? - Then the patient: There is no pain you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I had a fever My hands felt just like two balloons Now I've got that feeling once again I can't explain you would not understand This is not how I am I have become comfortably numb This was a very personal song for the band.

Fyi this is a reaction video , the whole point of this type of video is for people to watch someone’s reaction to something . That’s exactly what he’s doing , a bunch of children saying “ don’t ever interrupt David Gilmore’s solo” why are you all watching his reaction When you can listen/watch this all the way through anytime you want ? Him pausing it and talking is the reason you’re tuned in .

The really weird thing is that a you grown man ( supposedly ) wants to stare at another grown mans face watching him listen to music , without pausing or taking to it . I’m 61 and I’ve had enough goose bumps from this guys guitar since 1974 to stack to the moon. You don’t jam to Pink Floyd. You put on head phones , lay down in bed high and listen to an entire album start to finish. Anyway that’s how I did it and now I’m too old for today’s weed cause it’s too good and makes me forget how to breath but I still put on my head phones and take in the entire album. Being a teenager in the 70s was a gift.
