“The child is grown, The dream is gone” The line above, right before one of the greatest solos EVER, explains Comfortable Numb.... “Can anybody hear me” is the inner child dying & screaming out alone in an adult body & adult mind, nobody adult can hearing the pain.... As a child, you never give up on anything that means something important to you, an adult tells you to stop but you do not listen as if the adult is speaking a language you do not understand, the language being “give up”, nonstop waves of “give up”.... You become an adult, now you are just part of the brain washed adult heard, “adults only do this, adults only do that, that is childish”, you follow with no push back nor questions asked, you’re just “okay, will do, no problem”, now you’re Comfortable Numb.... “Feel a little pin prick” & every lyric after is showing that adults need something injected or taking for energy & “life”, as a child you wake up energize naturally”, no drug required to “live”....

"The lyrics were inspired by Waters's (the bass player)experience of being injected with tranquillizers for stomach cramps before a Pink Floyd show in Philadelphia on the 1977 In the Flesh Tour. "That was the longest two hours of my life," Waters said, "trying to do a show when you can hardly lift your arm. The song had the working title "The Doctor"." This was taken from Wikipedia.

That PULSE live version is even better with a very long 2nd solo, David Gilmour took the time to buid it, and your emotion goes higher and higher... as he plugs his guitar directly to your soul.... One of the all-time best bands, of any genre. Most of Pink Floyd's albums are concept albums and meant to be listened to from beginning to end, as one song flows into another. Your best bet would be to listen to the entire Dark Side of the Moon album ( it's less than an hour) & then maybe break it up into multiple videos if need be. Great reaction! Welcome to the world of PF. There's no going back now! 😉

In an interview released in the 80s, Waters (bass player), said that much of the song comes from something that really happened one evening when, in order to allow him to perform in Philadelphia, the doctor gave him a sedative for a severe stomach ache, which had probably caused by nerves. On the stage, his hands were numb (My hands felt just like two balloons) and his vision blurred, (A distant ship, smoke on the horizon), but none of this derailed the crowd, who continued to dance and sing. And it was out of this that one of the main themes of album came about: the disconnect between the public and the band. “That was the longest two hours of my life, trying to do a show when you can hardly lift your arm.”

Thing to remember is that PF albums are intended to be experienced in their entirety at one sitting because the individual songs, although great in their own right, flow into each other to tell a story. I would strongly recommend reading a bit about them before listening to get the most out of them. The Dark Side of the Moon album is probably the best place to start - this was in the Billboard charts for nearly 15 continuous years from its first release.

I really like you two Ladies but I HAVE TO SAY that the difference ( I'm 66 ) between "most" Males and "most" Female friends is staggering when one of them ( the knowledgeable Lady on the left ) KNOWS her friend is wrong and finally AGREES (lol ) that she should pause it. That was totally UNNECESSARY as you had already paused 5 times before, which is the most pauses I have seen watching 18 different reactors to this ). As the Lady on the left knows you HAVE to respect the solo as it builds and gains momentum until it reaches its climax but that pause completely broke all the flow and continuity that was growing. Ironically I was LOVING the Lady on the right admiring THe Stage Show which the other Lady almost totally missed. Good Luck but you would not have Copyright problems after 5 pauses. There were never more than 2 pauses in the other 17 reactions. Good Luck :)

So in a interview in 1980 Gilmour said "The main theme is the distance between our minds and the perception of reality because of artificial relief. In other words, we may not suffer, but that does not make us alive; escaping from life and its problems actually deprives us of something. This is the meaning of the song: life is out there; I prefer to face it and let it hurt me, than lose all sense of feeling."

Pink Floyd..... recommendations? After this, I would say for a similar feel? "Learning to Fly". Also, "On the Turning Away". From the same era as Comfortably Numb, but different vibes, Run Like Hell or Have a Cigar.

I say this with deep respect and sincerity and being much like those underneath the comment I am writing. You ladies will understand this song more as you get older. Pink Floyd has this way of bringing about a clarity and understanding that is achieved with age. Great reaction, you have enjoyed a timeless classic on the surface level. Just wait until you can plumb it's depths. Just wait ♥️

The entire The Wall album tells a story about a kid who grows up being bullied, overprotected, cheated, and who lost his father at a very short age. At this point of the story he's so into drugs he's just not capable of "feeling" anymore. Also, there's a movie based off the album... From the PULSE concert I recomend Sorrow, One Of These Days, Coming Back To Life, Learning To Fly, ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL, Money, Us And Them, Wish You Were Here and Run Like Hell.

The lyrics are about feeling numb, yes, but is also the story of Pink, who dreams deliri, in his hotel room, before the concert. Is about the "Dr. Feelgood", the doctor that have specific duty, re-animate pop stars on drugs,or alcohol, before the concert...and yes, tou absolutely need to listen more Floyd. Sorry if i made mistake writing, but i'm italian.

Before a concert Roger Waters (the PF bassist who wrote the album this song is a part of, The Wall) had an infection. He was so ill that the band thought they might have to cancel the performance. A doctor was called in and gave him an injection (just a little pinprick) in the stomach. He was able to perform after this. The part about the fever was when he was a child and he was ill and his hands were so numb they felt like balloons.

"You are only coming through in waves" In my heaviest depression/apathy/disconnection moments, when people talk with me, I barely register what they are actually saying. I get the gist, but honestly cannot bring myself to care enough to listen to the details. That's how I relate to that line anyway.

It took almost 47 years for me (I started listening to Pink Floyd at the age of 12 and now I'm 59) to understand PF songs a very little! Every time I listen to it, comes out with a whole new meaning so, don't expect to understand it on 1st listening girls! It's like a religion so vast and wide. The more you listen the more you'll b enlightened! AND YES, NEVER DARE TO PAUSE AND TALK WHEN ITS PLAYING! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT!

Roger Waters the bassist wrote this as part of “The Wall”. It’s semi autobiographical. The song was originally called the doctor. It was based on an experience with a doctor before a show. He suffers from hepatitis and the doctor gave him some meds. This is based on what he remembered.

This song is about an ordeal the original bassist Roger Waters (not present in this performance), had before a show. He had a stomach bug and had to be injected with a cortisone shot so he could perform ("you may feel a little sick. Now can you stand up? I do believe it's working- good. That'll keep you going through the show, come on it's time to go") He spent the entire show feeling numb and detached, and his hands felt like balloons.

Back then, Pink Floyd filled the Earls Court seven times within 14 days always with a day off to check the gigantic equipment and I saw this concert in 1994 in Cologne's soccer stadium, together with 75,000 fans. With my 58 years now I have been to dozens of partly very big concert events but what I was able to experience in Cologne has beaten everything. At that time a good friend of mine lived about 500m as the crow flies and could see the arena directly from his balcony. He told me later, when the block with the encores: Wish you where here, Comfortably Numb and especially Run like hell - kzread.info/dash/bejne/eWaim8F6nae6obw.html, was played, the whole stadium looked from the outside like the colorful glittering spaceship at the end of Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" after landing, because the light show could of course be seen from the outside through the distances between lower, middle and upper stand. Until then, Genesis were the absolute specialists for composed light shows for me. After 2 hours of watching and hearing it was clear to me that there is probably no more or better. And of course the overall experience of light and sound is inextricably linked. For example, when the sphere was still closed, it rotated and turned the stadium into a huge disco by the spotlights directed at it. When it opened, lasers were directed at it from various positions, reflected by the mirrors on it, which in turn were reflected back by mirrors fixed around the stadium roof and other mirrors distributed around the stadium near the ground, creating indescribable effects. You can't see this on the concert video because they made these setups only in stadiums and really must have been there because it's literally indescribable ! In the preannouncement of the concert it was promised that, regardless of where one´s position in the stadium is, listen to at least stereo if not even quatro. They implemented this advertising promise in such a comprehensive and impressive way that I will never forget this bombastic sound experience together with this indescribable light show. And to this day, when I hear this piece, especially during the guitar solo i get goose bumps all over my body and it leads me to another dimension ! EVERYTIME ❗️❗️❗️👍 Another perfect combination of music and light - kzread.info/dash/bejne/rGFlk9yohtGug7Q.html

The lead singer is David Gilmore who now tours under his own name. 2016 he did an amazing concert in Pompeii in the amphitheatre where no one else has performed to an audience for the past 2000 years since the volcano behind the theatre erupted killing everyone. Very very atmospheric. Listen to the Dark side of the moon album with headphones straight through, it's a trip. Great reaction ladies.

You're only coming through in waves. A distant ships smoke on the horizon. Imagine a ship passing by and the waves reaching you moments later. He can hear the person talking to him but it's a delayed reaction. The album follows a rock star named Pink who slowly builds a wall around himself. The bricks were added by his life experience. Things like an overprotective mother, a cruel schoolmaster and a unfaithful wife. At this point in the album Pink is helped to take the stage by being given drugs that leave him Comfortably Numb

You two were half-right. This song is mainly about Sid Barrett, a former band member who became mentally unwell, disappeared for some time and showed up one day having gained weight and shaved his head. His deterioration shocked the other band members and Gilmour wrote the song about how we insulate ourselves from life and drift being comfortably numb. You should be feeling the pain of that guitar solo, one of the greatest solos in music history.

This song is about “ Pink “ struggling with his mental state. Existing with reality and trying to keep outside the wall using drugs and such so he may perform but also wanting to keep secluded, calm = comfortably numb. The last solo is Pink giving in to the wall and becoming isolated from everything . The Wall is an incredible story , the music is just mind blowing . If have not listen to the whole album , please do . You will not regret it. The movie is also very good but also very graphic . ( just a warning )

@Two Sisters React: Welcome to the sublimity that is Pink Floyd. I was lucky enough to see a similar performance live, also in 1994, but on the Rotterdam leg of the tour. It was the same stage, same everything, and also an amazing performance of this song. Every time I see this video - and I play it a lot on KZread, which is how I eventually got to your video - it brings me back to that 1994 concert. I am truly amazed that young people like you are getting to know Pink Floyd. Now, if you want to react to another song..... There is a song called "Echoes". It was one of the earlier songs done by Pink Floyd, and there is a version that was done in Pompeii in the early 1970s, but there is also a version done by David Gilmour on his solo tour in Gdansk. And it THAT version that I think is so perfect and excellent. Be prepared though: The song alone is 25 minutes, so your reaction video might be an hour! :D See here: (249) David Gilmour - Echoes (Live In Gdańsk) - KZread
