Pigs ESCAPED & Didn't Go Back

While dealing with our problem calf, Rebekah noticed our forest feeder pigs were on the loose! We tried different ways to get them back but almost all efforts failed.

Justin, we went thru the same thing last year. Ruined a lot of good electric pig fence. What worked well in the end is heavy fencing covered by a tarp. They seemed to think it was solid, so they quit charging it. But don't leave any opening wider than an inch or they will squeeze thru.

Doubt you’ll see this comment, but from my experience with pasture/forest pigs, netting doesn’t work. They root right up next to it and knock it down. Elec line keeps them in better. We plan their last paddock to where the barn is their shelter. Night before they go to process we close them in. If you have a stubborn one that won’t go into the trailer, you can slide a hitch knot onto its back leg just above the “ankle”. Lift the leg straight up push it’s butt with your leg and you can now steer the pig. Lift it up and close to the body, not backwards and away. Only time we do this is loading into a trailer. In my mind it’s less stress on the animal than them constantly running and trying to break through fencing.

I thoroughly enjoy your videos ! I feel like you all are just plain family like my own. I was raised on a farm, we had chickens, ducks, Guineas, geese, cows and donkeys. We raised a gigantic garden for canning, freezing and drying. We had apple trees, peaches, pears, cherries, PawPaws, blackberries, raspberries, mulberries, elderberries and strawberries. We had walnut trees and I did not like trying to crack and get the nuts out. We raised a big cornfield for the animals and we had a great big corncrib to hold it all. There were 11 living on our farm, Nanny, Papaw, Uncle Grade, Mom, Dad and us 6 kids, everybody worked. My Nanny always made the butter and I would churn for her, I loved it.

I build a 8x10 pen with tposts and hog panels. They get trained to eat there. A week before butcher the trailer gets pulled up and they get fed there. A day before they get locked in that small pen, gives a buffer. Then loaded and locked in. Efficient and works, but that makes for no drama..

Well you know I'm always for the calf getting extra milk. We can always go to the store and buy. It makes me think of the dairy cash that are male and they're put in a dark room like a box, for a few days because they're going to become veal. So they never get it taste of mother's milk. So I'm always for the calf.

No pain meds for banding. You just use an appropriate bander and band and put it around the scrotum after making sure both testicles are decended into it. The bander slowly cuts off blood supply. The whole scrotum, testicles and all, shrivel up and fall off.

Nothing worse than having to chase the pigs! Ours would bust out and go to a neighbors house about 1/4 mile down the road. That neighbor didn’t even have pigs! Our current pig is just a ‘pet’ with a purpose. He’s our composter, garbage disposal, undertaker. He knows his name, and like any 400 lb pig comes running like a puppy dog when you call him!

Hi just want to give your children a round of applause for how hard they work on the farm despite their age or size😊❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️They go above and beyond what they should have to for their age and I know that’s gonna make you upset Justin to hear that but I’m going to tell you is it this kindly… you’re a grown man and you couldn’t control those big pigs in fact you were knocked down at one point and whatever panel you had. I couldn’t see and I didn’t play it back to see whether or not you had the baby on your back at the time. Your daughter is way too small to be helping with big pigs that size. You’re on the Internet, So I know you’ve seen farm accidents from pigs or cells or bars and they are vicious when you’re mad and you’re trying to get them trapped where they don’t want to be in somebody’s gonna get hurt and you think it’s going to be you or your children??🤣🤣I do not want to upset any parent but it is your job to protect your children and before you ever started moving those pigs and I don’t even want to use that word because they are so big…. I can only guess what they weigh….But there wasn’t a real evident plan for moving those pics from the beginning in those flimsy plastic things that Jonah was carrying clearly who is not anything that was going to intimidate a pig but could get a child hurt. I beg of you in the future to train those pigs when they’re younger to go up into a trailer and eat and leave the door open so they can go in and out without any threat and of course set up your electrical fence around it so that they can come and go and aren’t frightened of the trailer, … And then when it comes time to move get those solid panels with the T post like your wife figured out and make a channel that is wide in the beginning and Narrows until it is attached to the doors of the trailer and they have no choice but to go in. I’m not just talking as somebody who’s watching a video and judging you which I’m trying not to be judge mental but I’m truly upset about those children coming close to being hurt I lived on a farm and we had Hampshire pigs/boars/sows…And I learn very quickly on how mean they can be. Oh! the little piglets are so cute….Look at the videos from when you got those five pigs and they were just as cute as they could be! They fit in 10 laundry basket for your son to fall in love with them… but if you watch that video back, you will not see love on their faces win their being charged by the big pigs and breaking between the barriers they’ve created… It is just too unsafe for those children to be fighting off pigs every build their size with in adequate fencing material. Scariest thing I have seen on your farm and I love your videos and your family but I’m pretty upset about the children how fun to do adult work against dangerous pigs😂😂😂😂😂😂
