Percussion revolvers are very useful in the woods. Living history and beautiful ergonomics. I deer hunt with my .44 cal revolvers. It is legal where I live. I enjoyed the video! 👍

Uberti has the short arbor issue they have yet to correct , Pietta may not be as refined , but ones made from 2016 and on have made tremendous strides in quality and are solid revolvers .

The short Arbor issue is a non issue. But yes you are correct. Pietta has come a long way in the last few years mostly with odd grip shape. I own both in 51s and 60 61 and I'm happy with them all. Getting back to the hammer issue Pietta did have a problem with the hammers not being hardened matter of fact I have one that failed and will be fixed soon.

@@thomasmoorman5328 Short arbors are a issue , please Google Goon Gunworks , Mike the owner can explain it in great detail far better than I can . It is very interesting and worth the time .

One benefit of the Slix-Shot nipples is their consistent size and dimension, something not always present in factory supplied nipples. In regard to the cap fragments, original caps(from the era) were made from much thicker material. Also, modern caps are advertised as "hotter", probably due to the use of replica powders like Pyrodex which are harder to ignite. There has been recent progress at modifications to Colt type percussion pistols to reduce cap fragment problems. All well and good, but if the darn caps were made correctly in the first place maybe we could stop blaming the guns as the problem. OK, rant over but after 30 years of enjoying these neat guns that is my conclusion.

Actually a Colt C&B revolver should only have 3 clicks (half cock, bolt drop, then bolt lock at the same time as hitting the full cock notch), as the don't have the "safety notch" cut in the hammer like the Single Action Army has 4 clicks (safety notch, half cock, bolt drop, then bolt lock at the same time as the full cock notch). Also, if you can't find lubed wads, you can use a toilet wax ring to seal and lube the chambers. I also did the Kirst Conversion on my 1851 & 1860, so I can shoot .38LC in the 51, and .45LC in the 60.

You did an excellent job antiquing your firearm. A .36 caliber shouldn't be called a pea shooter. Many casualties were had from such weapons.

How did you antique it, scotchbrite to take off the blueing? It looks awesome.

Thank you. I just soak the parts in white distilled vinegar and it takes the blue off within minutes.

Oer the past two days I have been shooting my 1861 Uberti Navy. and t runs like a Swiss watch. My suggestion is to replace the main spring with s Wolff reduced power main spring (fitting required) and Slixshot nipples . Then clean burrs out of the safety notch in the hammer. So far after about 75 shots using both ball and Colt Cartridge Company 128 grain bullet (Eras Gone Bullet Moulds) both with 17 grain volume off FFFg powder I have bot had a cap jam and it makes a nice accurate target load. Thanks for the information we are all on a learning curve with the C&B guns.

Well said! It makes me wonder if the originals were this temperamental. Something tells me they probably weren’t. They probably had better materials and closer tolerances.

also with that reduced power mainspring and wire trigger and bolt spring my trigger pull is right at two pounds. The gun has had the Larson E. Pettifogger improvements which make cap jams a thing of the past. It is a great looking and shooting gun which you shoot quite well. Thank you for the work.
