We know Peter Kay is a special talent but so, too, is Sian Gibson. This is acting of the highest quality because you genuinely can't tell that they are acting. This scene must have been played out in many many similar if not identical situations. John turning up the radio, Kayleigh turning it down and lines like "The traffic's bad on here tonight" and "What's this prick doing?" as John seeks to avoid the issue. The "because I love you line" is perfect (and very moving.)

When my dad died my heart literally broke. 💔 Actor's don't break hearts they break their bank ballance.

The amount of times I’ve watched this and shouted “Just tell her how you feel, John!” Hundreds.

Amazing actress, I think she won a BAFTA award. That scene would bring a tear to a glass eye.

When he started crying my heart cracked. When he said 'I'm done', my heart split.

At 3:35... his reaction when his voice goes up and 'breaks'... he says "fuckin' 'ell"... is brilliant. It's hilarious, he's like 'wtf??'.... it's so subtle. Great acting!

You have to admire Peter Kay for his ingenuity. We too shared all those car share journeys with John and Kayleigh and could relate to the dynamics between them. The longing, the fantasy of things developing into something deeper, the intimacy of being with someone who seems to know us and makes us feel special. Just as in real life more often than not things turn out to thwart our hopes and dreams, and it all suddenly goes pear-shaped. You're left wondering 'What happened there?". It's usually because one or other is afraid and would rather be alone than get hurt. I think if John and Kayleigh had driven off into the sunset all loved-up it might have appeared contrived. That's why we could all relate to their relationship and the delicate balance of the scales of its potential.

My heart breaks every time I watch this scene, especially at the bit were she walks out the car and his message gets read on the radio. Thank god the show never actually ended like this.

The ending is a shame for Kayleigh's character but you can't fault that the ending has got people talking. At least it wasn't the typical ending that we would always expect. Great show, perfect casting and one of the best things on tv for a long time.

The moment Kayleigh said "Because I love you, that's why!" It absolutely broke me and shocked me to pieces. I was begging and begging for months for more episodes and a good ending.

I never used to like him, then I started watching car share and now my heart is broken

This brought back so many memories for me. I was so in love with my best friend 15 years ago and he didn't feel the same. It broke my heart and we parted ways!!

These things do happen in life, little miss sunshine. Peter said himself in a recent interview on the radio that he was teary every time he watched these last scenes.

This broke my heart but it was such a good show and the ending was relatable rather than predictable and cheesy. I just hope they do some sort of special or spin off when they get together

I cried so much at this I was screaming at the telly

I think the first series was faultless when they had a beautiful friendship and it focused purely on comedy but it's been building up to this since the beginning of series 2 and when it became apparent that they had developed feelings for each other I think people guessed that it couldn't go on for ever or back to the way it used to.

He’s a much better actor than I had thought 👍

Can't wait for conclusion.love this show

Creators of shows say that all the time. Then there's a christmas special. If they say "yes there will be" people will react to that now and start to talk about it and it will be an anti climax when it arrives. Guarantee it will come out that there's to be a christmas special closer to the time.

Just watched the last episode last night, Very Sad Ending, i nearly cried lol... but a Great Show. Why was there only 4 Episodes when you usually get 6 in a Series, Plus i dont believe Peter kay when he says that was the last ever episode, We Definitely havent seen the last of Car Share, that im sure of :)

i loved this show as a nice gentle fantasy comedy especially series one....once real feelings started creeping into it it got sad and suddenlly too serious...i never want them to get together now as the magic has gone

I like the chemistry displayed between John and Kayleigh in series 2, still had the laughs ( Elsie comes to mind ) but an underlying romance building, to each their own.

Series one ended on a perfect "will they won't they" ending. This ending just frustrated people who wanted a Disney ending. I wouldn't bother making a special episode, leave it be.

Amazing series but this ending is the worst since the sopranos black screen!

I never thought for a minute watching it on iPlayer weeks ago that it would be the last one. However, reflecting on the last 2-days since its broadcast and Kay's announcement (which I initially assumed was a publicity stunt), I think it's one of the boldest, profound endings to any show or film ever, if it really is the end. Kay said in an interview he was fascinated by people who would love to be in love, but are too afraid of being hurt. Also, we do get the fantasy ending, so it's kind of bittersweet. You could choose to believe that the show ends with John daydreaming about what would have happened if he didn't chase after her.

It's coming back

The first series was six episodes, 30 minutes each. The second series was four episodes, 30 minutes each. Your average Christmas special is 60 mins. So, four 30 minute episodes plus one 60 minute episode makes the equivalent of a six episode series. I can only assume that they've already filmed a Christmas special alongside the rest of series two. Good money saver. There'll be a special and it'll be the real ending, mark my words.
