Persia and Greece - Objects in Focus: Oxus Treasure Griffin Armlet

This video is suitable for students aged 14+ who are studying Classical Civilisation and Ancient History at GCSE and A level. It is one of a series of 4 videos considering the relationship between the worlds of ancient Greece and Persia by focusing in on a specific object and contextualising that object within its broader ancient world context.
In this video, Dr Jamie Fraser (curator of the British Museum exhibition Luxury and Power: Persia to Greece), focuses on one of the most famous objects from the Oxus Treasure. It is one of the prescribed sources for the OCR A Level Classical Civilisation: Invention of the Barbarian unit.
The video considers how the royal Achaemenid court of Persia used precious luxury objects as markers of political power, and how these objects were reimagined by the ancient Greeks.
