Mama always made the fruit cocktail cake, and this cake, too. The only difference, she used crushed pineapple instead of the peaches. Both are so good!

I’ve lived in The Appalachians all my life , I’ve never heard of either. Wow that cake looked so very 😋scrumptious💕. I would definitely put nuts on and or on mine. Thank you Miss sweet T👍 I hope & pray Matt’s momma is doing better😋Blessings to your whole family 🫶 you all!
I’ve made this cake for years except instead of peaches we’ve always made it with crushed pineapple and double icing, we called it aunt Pats cake. It’s my youngest daughter’s favorite birthday cake.
Sending blessings to your family especially Miss Cindy ♥️✝️🇺🇸 thanks for the recipe ♥️
Im so glad that you always show the "post production" parts after your conclusion. It really adds to the video and keeps it real and original. As always...excellent job ladies! :)

I'll bet you could use a potato masher on those peaches as well. It looks really good. My mother used to make the fruit cocktail cake many years ago. Thanks for the fond memory.
Church suppers. My lord how I loved those as a kid. I also remember sitting on top of the ice cream churn, cranking until my arm was on fire. Always vanilla, peach and banana. Y.U.M.
My mom always made what she called a cherry bubble cake with canned sour cherries. Made really the same way. With the same topping minus the coconut. It is so good! I make it occasionally but my husband is not a fan of cherries and I sure don't need it all! It's called bubble cake because the cherries come to the top and gives a bubble like look. Update: I looked at her recipe and It is exactly the same. Only using cherries instead of the peaches or fruit cocktail. If you like cherries give that a try sometime!

The cherries sound delicious!!!
I love cakes with that runny frosting that soak the cake without being mushy. 😋
I'm going to have to make this cake!! It looks so yummy! I've made cakes similar to this one and I usually poke holes in the cake before pouring the icing over the hot cake. I think it helps the hot cake absorb the icing a little quicker. Thank you for sharing your recipes and techniques! Praying for Ms. Cindy and you all. ❣🙏🙏🙏
When I was a child, we used to drive into the "city" and eat at Duff's for special occasions, usually a couple times a year, and I just loved it. Sadly it closed. I'll always remember the fried shrimp and chocolate mouse.
I ain't never wished for smell-a- vision before in my life 😂.. I got my cookbook today and I've already started readin it !! Thanks so much for signin it for me, I bet your hand was sore after signin all them books. Love and prayers ! Tulsa, Oklahoma 😊

there was a duff's in florence al too. this cake reminds me of one mom called a poke cake. almost the same icing and you would use a tooth pick to poke the cake so icing would flow into it lol.

I make a poke cake using strawberry jello with a white cake mix bake in a 9x11 take a wooden spoon and poke holes all over the cake mix. Take large box of jello strawberry mix as stated poor all over the cake. Place cake in fridge to set up then frost it with cool whip decroate with sliced or chopped strawberries great summer time dessert. The reason I typed all this out I was thinking about your cake if you poked holes in it before putting the coconut icing drizzle on it would let was seep farther down into the cake..😁

I seen someone making a cake similar to this cake. I made it last week and it was so good. It was called a Tornado Cake. It was made basically the same way except with pineapple instead of peaches and instead of walnuts it calls for pecans. Yummy.
My mother’s old recipe uses cans of fruit cocktail. It’s delicious too.
I will definitely be making this recipe. The fruit cocktail cake popped up on my feed the other day. I didn’t even realize it was an older video until it was over. I have heard of that cake, but not this one. I plan to make both soon. 😊

I worked at Duffs here in knoxville as a teenager during the world's fair 82 and we couldn't keep the hurricane cake filled on the buffet bar. People loved it. That's a good cake. Take care sister. Good share
My Mommy always made fruit cocktail cake. It’s the one she always knew to make for me when I came home.
Tipper I’m sure you’ve had a pig pickin cake before, the one with the yellow cake mix with the mandarin oranges in the batter and the frosting is crushed pineapple whipped topping and vanilla pudding. It’s so good and an old recipe for sure. If you haven’t though I’ll be glad to post it. That Dufs cake looks great! Must try it 👍🏻

I ordered your cookbook from Amazon. We are planning on coming to Boone and hope to see you to sign it. That cake looked so good. I’ve lived in the Appalachians all my life but had never heard of decoration day until I married my husband. His family called it the Memorial Meeting. There was always dinner on the grounds and special singing and preaching. So many have passed that we don’t have it anymore but we still put flowers on the graves.

When the weather gets a little warmer here in Iowa, once a week I would like to try a new dessert recipe. I think this'll be the first one I try out.
Looks so good! I use the fruit in its own juice. The reason I mention it is you said it’s super sweet. I also use unsweetened just plain dried coconut. Ingles has a brand and it’s organic unsweetened coconut and I love it. It’s still plenty sweet on its own. Just a thought of how to maybe cut down on the sweetness. I enjoy the end of the video where y’all are just talking . It’s like visiting with y’all. I sent a card with my cookbook money. Should be there soon.

That trick with the kitchen shears is what I do if I buy packaged slaw mix or salad. I just put it in the bowl and use the shears on it till it is the size I want. Those peachs would chop easy with shears if someone wanted. Those scissors do all kinds of things. This is one of those cakes that is always a winner. I have to make a birthday cake for Buz next week. This might be something different. Of course he thinks he has to put ice cream on any cake. You surely are blessed to have 2 wonderful mothers in law. In all the busy days right now take a deep breath and thank God for blessings. Praying for yall. Have a great week.
