I agree, y'all both talk about a feast! I like that a lot. It does show so much appreciation for each other! And then on the videos he helps you put up the food and clean up too!
Matt is so funny when he takes that first bite he makes a low groan or moan or maybe it’s a chuckle, either way one can tell he is really enjoying what he eats. At the end him saying “…that’s good! I’ll fight anybody who says it ain’t” 😂 Y’all are just so cute together! Tipper that cake looks delicious!

I love black walnuts. When I was a child we , my momma , aunt , cousin of I picked them up , poured them out in the driveway , everyone would drive over them and we'd pick them out , bag them up and take to the store and sell them . What great memories , I'm 76 now and those memories are precious. 💖💖

You know it is good when it gets quiet while you're both enjoying the piece of the cake. Yum!
In Florida, the humidity came down ONE day and I had to make chicken and dumplings. That’s a fall/winter dish for us.

My kind of cake. Tis the season. Matt doesn't hide his emotions when it comes to food! Thanks Tipper!
Matt always makes it when he truly enjoys the food you make him and the family ! 🙌
You know it's good when Matt smiles and chuffs right after that first bite.
I love Matt's reaction. My late husband used to do that and even after 43 years it always pleased me. That cake looks delicious!
Our job as youngest kids was to gather the walnuts, get them out of hull, let them season in sun and then crack them on a big rock with a smaller rock. When I find a walnut tree here in Texas, I ask the owners if I can gather some. They usually are glad to get rid of them. Your cake looked so yummy. I’m baking it for Thanksgiving. Take care and enjoy your weather.❤️🥰

We had fights throwing them at each other. Our hands would be brown and green from picking them up. They’d leave a mark if you were close enough or caught someone by surprise. 😂
I love black walnuts. I make my own black walnut flavoring. Looks delicious. Blessings.
Looks delicious. Thank you. I know my husband will like it. I'm married 40 years and though he's a quiet man, the one thing he's always been talky about is my cooking and baking. It's as if he comes alive when he eats my home cooking. Hahaha. You folks take care. Happy 🍂 fall from us to you, from the Allegheny mountains of the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania .
Black walnuts are my favorite. This time of year especially with apples. I just made some applesauce love it on a hot biscuit. You're right taste like fall
Tipper, thank you so much for sharing this recipe. It looks delicious. My Dad turned 96 today and this reminds me of his favorite cake. It’s called “HUSBANDS CAKE”. It’s made with the usual flour, eggs, oil but the spice’s are clove, cinnamon and 1 can of tomato soup. It also has raisins and regular walnuts. It’s more of a fall spice cake, like yours, but a bit different. It’s also frosted with the same icing you made. I would love to share this recipe with you, if you would like to have it to try 💕🙏🙏

I love a good apple cake, that one looks delicious! I might try it with the golden raisins. I like them every now and then. When I lived in Bryson city, the Cherokee ladies would bring black walnuts in mason jars to sell at Darnell Farms. I think about 8 years ago, they were $20-$25 a quart jar. Im sure they are more now. So much labor involved, but sure are good.

You know it's really good when Matt does that little happy bounce when he he eats it. I grew up in a neighborhood which had once been a black walnut grove, so the vacant lots had old black walnut trees that no one tended. You could have all the walnuts you wanted, free for the taking. But, goodness, what a lot of work shelling and picking. Your hands would dyed black for days.
Look at Matt hopping every time he took a bite 👍
That cake looks perfect for this time of year. Thank you for sharing Tipper.

I’ll have to make this! My dad loved Black Walnuts. He would take us to the local hunting club “Fur, Fin and Feather Club” 😆. He preferred fin, never hunted. We kids would help him gather loads of black walnuts. He would break the hulls with the vice in his wood-shop. Fond memories. I’m getting ready to make pawpaw bread…THEN this delicious apple cake. I made the chicken casserole over the weekend! Delicious! 😊
Oh isn't the cooler air one of the sweetest joys of life? Thank you for the recipe, Tipper. I'm going to try to make a lower-carb version. 😊
My mom passed in 2015, she loved black walnut anything. I’m making this cake tomorrow for a mountain fire pit gathering we are having. Matt is a good taster 👍🏼❤️
I guess most people see that as dessert but for me a piece of that cake with a cup of coffee would make a mighty fine breakfast.
Matt always likes dessert but you can sure tell when he Loves one! That cake looks so good! Grammy from Texas
Yummy! I have a family recipe for a apple cake that I always make for Christmas. I’ll have to try and make yours and Jim’s but, without the black walnuts. We are not very fond of them but, we usually use pecans in the place of them. Thanks for sharing this recipe. Hugs from the southeast coast of Florida.😎🦩🌞🦩😎
My goodness that looks amazing! Here's another recipe I will be adding to our list!
Falltime goodies in the southwest Virginia Tennessee mountains..the aromas fill homes or front porches or a church gathering..a delightful time of the year ..bless you and your family for sharing traditions ❤from a Indiana girl living on the Virginia Tennessee line
Looks SO GOOD, I remember when I was little granny would let me lick the spoon, it was a rule at our house we always told mama how good everything was weather we liked it or not but I never had nothing mama cooked I didn't like.
I have been using Raid fly sticks for the fruit flies. I get them at Home Depot in a two pack and Walmart has a one pack. It works great. The cake sounds amazing. I will have to try it.

I despise Fruit 🍉 Flies
When I was little we had a Black walnut tree right beside our house. I can remember waiting for the outer shell turning black and backing that apart my dad would take them to Nashville Tennessee about 60 miles from my home and selling them by the grass sack full .my sister and I enjoyed doing that
I visited Burnsville and Linville falls to see the black mountain lights from Wiseman view this past Saturday. It was quite chilly that night up by Linville falls up on hwy 105 nc area that night.
You are blowing me away, Tipper!!! The only difference is my mother used dried figs. I couldn't eat a fig raw, but I would eat them all in her cake!!!
Matt looks very pleased! Great job Tipper!🥰✌🏼🇺🇸
Just finished dinner, sure would like a piece of that for dessert. ❤
It looks yummy!! I love black walnuts....brings back childhood memories! Nothing better than black walnut ice cream!
Gosh, Matt says this is so good and I believe him. I would love to have a slice of this, but just for me I never bake a cake. I’m sure those girls would do away with this ,and Granny .God bless you all. ❤
The corner is my favorite! I have all the ingredients!! So I plan on making this cake soon! Of course I will have to do it gluten free!
That sounds so good ❤ I love black walnuts but dang they are expensive…..I miss when daddy cracked them & sold them & mama always had them in the freezer..glad I have your book❤

My Daddy loved black walnuts. They kept them in the freezer and when he wanted a snack he would get him a handful of them. He had lots of walnut trees on his farm. We used to pick them up and have them hulled then we would sit around in the winter at night and pick them out.
The cake looks so good! I’m definitely going to try to make it. We have also had an extra hard time getting rid of fruit flies this year. I watched a bunch of videos on how to get rid of them and one said that they will breed in the drains of the kitchen sink. It recommended spraying Raid (the kind that is for roaches, spiders, etc.) into the kitchen sink drains. I haven’t tried it yet.

I take a jar, pour in 3/4ths of apple cider vinegar, cover the opening tightly with saran wrap , poke holes ...and whala!! ..with in a day you'll see fruit flys drowned in the jar.

Howdy Tipper! You made hubby do a happy dance again!😃 I enjoyed this share.👍💕
I've never seen this before...the other day, we cut open a very ripe cantelope melon, in no time, there were fruit flies covering the outside of our screens, just all sqeezing in to get to the melon! I'm not sure where I previously thought they came from, but now I know they don't just come with the fruit. We had to get rid of the melon (too yucky) & shut all the windows. Hooray for cooler fall! -much love ~Mary & fam in NJ
You and Matt crack me up! You kept asking him what he thought and he was too busy eating it stop and answer. 😂
That looks so darn yummy, will definitely be trying it. The frosting you use is what I use for my carrot cake frosting. Blessings ❤️🙏❤️

My Aunt makes a Apple Cake that’s awesome!!! Looks yummy too!!!
As a home, baker myself, that husband approval gets me every time!❤
OMGosh I knew Matt was going to go for the whole cake as soon as you asked him if he wanted the corner piece😊
Beautiful cake Miss Tipper! My MeMaw (Great Grandmaw) made an apple cake every Christmas. I always liked to grate the apples because that was something I could do to help! Her recipe just had apples 4c. and I think she either put pecans or English Walnuts in hers, icing was basically identical! Black walnuts are good but unless someone grows up eating them, or knows what they are, their flavor is strong (and the trees are MESSY). We just moved into a "new to us" older home this Summer (built around 1940) and it has a tree I could not tell what it was. Finally, one of the neighbor's told us it's a Chestnut tree! I've never seen one before but I want to use the nuts so I'm figuring out what to do with 'em. Glad it's cooling down for y'all, went to the grocery store and the car said it was 95F here, I believe it too, it was way too hot for this time of year. Sending y'all love from Memphis, I know Granny will get a good piece of that cake~
