Man those things never die, it will clean up and fish like new for years to come. Just a few new parts here and there and keep on fishing

Definitely the best way to kill some time.

hell yeah... good reel right there, for an easy upgrade, replace the drags with slicks/smoothies, and add a bearing under the spool... nicely done

Make sure drag washers are installed and correctly placed. Make sure the drag knob is tightened most of the way. Try to pull line out of the spool. It should click and give. If nothing…it could be the drag knob. They are notorious for cracking or separating from the metal insert housed within them. You may be able to glue the metal insert back to the drag knob. If the plastic drag knob is cracked you might have to find a new one.

Do you have any tricks for getting a stuck bearing free from the main gear with the side cover plate in between? This is the only problem with a gift 650SS. I can't budge it with any normal means.

I'd hit it with PB Blaster and give it 10-15minutes.
