My only problem with this reel is the absence of an AR override. It’s just my preference and the way I surf fish. I don’t like having to open a bail or loosen the drag to let out line. I use Penn grease on my reels except for my Mitchells. I only use Super Lube on them. I learned that from a gentleman that used to be my main source for Mitchell parts until he retired early last year at the age of 82. He knew more about vintage French Mitchell reels than anyone I’ve ever met. I really miss him. I’ve started putting a drop of oil in the side-plate screw holes of my reels as well as a little grease on the handle threads. Another great spinning reel video Dennis! I started my collecting a little less than 5 years ago and now I’m at the point that I’m not happy if I’m not wrestling with some vintage reel that has a mysterious or difficult problem to solve. Thank you for your kind words about my recent battle with a Mitchell 906. As far as I know I have examples of all the French Mitchell Saltwater reels now. - Chris

The handle that bolts to a penn 350 levelwind , the Handle jiggle between reel and the nut where it fastens

Sounds like you have a worn gear sleeve that needs to be replaced. There should be two flat side on on the top. When they round out, that jiggle can occur. I would replace the sleeve. The part is available through Mysticparts.com - Dennis

Hello, First up loving your videos and through that I have fixed the anti reverse on my 650SSM I have hjad since I bought it. I have a question for you with the same reel, if thats ok. This reel has some play up and down on the rotor and I am trying to figure out if that is ok and normal or if it is an issue, maybe one I created. When you wind it backwards it does go just a little and the rotor lifts a little and you can also do the same by just lifting the rotor. Should it be doing this? Thanks in advance. Anthony

It sounds like the rotor nut is not tight. There may also be a washer under the click ratchet that is missing. You need to recheck both. It is not normal - Thats for the note and for watching - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle Hello Dennis, thank you for the response. Problem now identified and solved. The Pinion gear was not coming through the rotor far enough to tighten it up. After stripping the very top of it trying to tighten it too far, I realised that the collar inside the anti reverse system can be put on upside down, which then does not allow the pinion gear to come through far enough. I had assumed it was just a straight collar, near fatal mistake for the pinion gear. All I had to do was turn it upside down and then it all tightened up nicely, and as a bonus there was now enough thread to get pass the stripped section to still work. No more play in the real at all. Much tighter thank you very much. Regards Anthony.😁

Dennis you have taught me many good habits: TAKE PICTURES small parts sometimes “fit” upside down; dog pins, anti reverse dogs and the corresponding springs Parts tray definitely helps reassembly Using the correct sized screwdriver 🪛 to avoid “butterflying” slotted screws Making sure to remove old grease. I buy n sell strictly Penn reels and I’m confident that I can tear it down completely without remorse because you have made a video on it. Your calm voice is extremely reassuring as I’m looking for parts that shot across the room because I forgot to shield it with my cupped hand. I noticed that you getting some adds on your videos. Congratulations on growing your audience. I know I refer several people a month to your videos. I have referred a few people to you for reel repair as I’m unable to do repairs and service work right now. I go thru every reel to ensure that I don’t sell a bad reel. I love the videos Dennis and spoke with you about ordering some parts from mystic for me. You are incredibly helpful sir. Thanks
