Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is PART 2 of trying double weaving for the first time on my rigid heddle loom. The warping of the loom was done in PART 1. In this video, I will be doing the weaving. I will also be weaving three different variation of double weave, which are double width, double layers and tube weaving.

THE YARN
I used Lion Brand yarns from their Heartland collection for this project. Here are the names of the colors for the warp and the double layers sample:
-Great Smoky Mountains (grey)
-Canyonlands (golden yellow)
Here's the name of the color for the weft for the double width and the tube samples:

THE BOOK
For this technique, I'm using as reference "The Ashford Book of Rigid Heddle Weaving", the revised edition, by Rowena Hart. The technique is found from page 98 to 100.

THE HEDDLES
For double weave, you would need two heddles. If you need an extra heddle and in the US, the Woolery has them all! Here's the link woolery.com/ashford-rigid-hed...

Your tutorials have been so pleasant, informative, and organized. I’m hitting like at the beginning of the video. I already know it’s going to be good. 😊 Thank you for the great content! As an aspiring novice, it helps me to see the consequences of your mistakes, and how you correct them. Catching a glimpse of your cats always adds value as well. 😁

Such a great demo. I am finally getting a much clearer idea of how to make this work. Seeing the two sheds for each heddle makes it much more understandable. Thanks.

I waited until I could watch this without distractions and I’m glad I did. There’s a lot to focus on but you do a masterful job of editing to keep it from getting boring and your personality really carries it through. I eventually want to try this myself when I have more time and play around with it. I like to sew but sometimes seaming edges together can be tedious if the warp is long. You did a great job explaining and most importantly showing. Great camera angles. Love watching your videos

This is so exciting! I've tried to learn double weave once before, but got stuck and could NOT figure it out. I'm going to buy this book and between that and your video I feel confident I can figure it out this time. Thank you! 😊

I really appreciate these videos in which you show your mistakes and struggles and the things you learned, as well as your excitement over learning something new. I enjoy that you shared what you might use each technique for as well. Initially I wasn’t very interested in the tube weaving idea, but now I’m very excited to try weaving a cowl! :)

I have tried this too and my experience was very similar. I noticed also as you advance the warp ,the woven cloth ,because it is double thickness, fills up the front bar quicker . This means the sheds become less open sooner, making it more likely that floats are created. Like you I am interested in making wider pieces but it doesn’t quite work out as double the width capacity of the loom . I look forward to seeing how you get on with a bigger project and if you develop techniques for catching those hidden floats. Thank you for sharing. 😊

hi! weaving adventures are so much fun...ans some times discouraging 😉 i just finished a double weave and this is what i learned....beware of your warp. Mine was going to be the same as the weft, but it was too thick. so took everything off and restante with something much thinner. size 3 yarn and no8 heddles. it gas still a little stick and pad to often make sure everybody went up and down properly. Also, if you start weaving on the right, your fold will be on the left, and on the right if you start weaving on the left. So just a consideration if you're doing a check pattern. I didn't figure out how to hemstitch on the loom because of the double thickness of fabric. the start is okay if you have waste yard....but trickier for the end. The last strand wants to escape, so maybe a row or two of waste yarn to secure everything when removing off the loom.

Next time, advance your warp for your fringe before you start weaving your colors so you start where you have something to beat against.

Hi. Why not concern a wider loom?

  • @Curly_n_Yarny

    @Curly_n_Yarny

For many reasons! Wider looms are more expensive and take up more space. It doesn't always make sense to get a big loom and double weave can be a solution in some situations 😄
