This is one of those " I wish I had thought of that" when I have been struggling with warping. Thank you so much for your generous sharing of tips to help make us better weavers.

You're welcome!
Brilliant! Plus I love the idea of having the warp spread out, almost like having a raddle!
I always warp myself. I am working on a 52 inche wide warp. It is 20 yards long. I have been professionally weaving since 1975. I have woven a couple thousand scarves, endless numbers of shawls and throws and rugs. I dye most of the fibers I use. I would say I have put more than the hours of weaving that makes me one of the most experienced weavers in the US, I am 72. Like I said my warp I am putting on is 15 epi and 52 inches. The more you weave the more you know and you can solve any problem and solve any problem and I still find ways of doing things different. Be free to make mistakes. I don't roll paper into the warp. Have fun, relax weave. It's a beautiful thing. 😊
Thaaaaaank you! Toyed with doing this since I have a 32” loom
I do something similar using a stainless steel shower rod to hold my warp. I won't go into the differences in how I wind but when I get the warp wound on, I place a strip of painters tape across the top threads on the bar before I cut the loops at the end. Then I flip the taped ends over the back of the heddle while I pull the lower threads to the bottom of the slots and slip knot them out of the way. Then I remove the top threads from the tape one at a time and thread them through the holes - much faster and the threads are never twisted when I weave to the end of the warp.
Kelly, I love that you continually come up with new and different ideas for making it easier to warp
Very helpful, thank you. I live by myself, so this tip is really applicable to my situation.

Ahhhh! This is exactly what I needed! Gonna go try it right now ! Thank you!!
Perfect!! Thank you for the tip!
Kelly, I love how the warp was spread on the pick up stick. I think that might be useful with other warping techniques.
Although I have created a "tension device" with 4 dowels, I really appreciate all the effort and love that you put in showing so many different ways of doing this. You fill the weaver's life with hope, variety and creativity. Thank you. Oh! I also wanted to say that not only you and the school have been mentioned in many other youtube channels as an excellent resource for weaving, but also many of us really appreciate the charisma you show when helping us in the weaving world ❤

Thank you I learned, so much looking for more.
Thank you so much I will definitely try this😊
This is the way I have always done mine, works great too
Good to know I’m not the only one who does this. Makes for such even threads and tension
Thank you so much for sharing this demonstration! Great idea utilizing the tools you may already have on hand.

I'm always looking for ways to multi purpose my tools, my frugal mindset and a desire for less clutter I think! 😀
Very good ideas. I use a large, heavy dowel rod as the warping peg then the weight of the dowel keeps nice tension for the wind on. It has worked magnificently! Thanks for the idea, would be great for shorter warps.
Thanks for this Kelly. Great idea which I'll definitely use.

I needed a boost of enthusiasm from you again, thank you!! Having many looms yet not doing any weaving on any of them right now, has put me in a bit of a funk. Thank you for being you and. thank you for this great idea. I have grabbed my little loom now, placed it on the table, grabbed my ball of cotton yarn, and will be warping it up today with a new project.

Great method for winding on Kelly. I use a warping board to make the warp independent of the loom, but still sometimes struggle with winding on. I'll be using this method of winding on next time. Thank you for another great idea!

Thank you for this great way to warp alone Kelly, I have been wanting to do a big warp so rather than doing it at club I wanted to do it at home as I take so long to do it because of back problems, I can relax and take breaks without stressing. I just need to buy the clamps which I assume Bunnings will have.

With the separator, the paper grocery bags from Woolies open out to fit a 24" rigid heddle loom perfectly.

That is brilliant. No need to only warp my loom when my husband is available to hold the warp 😂
This looks great. I do have a question about doing it alone. My loom is on a stand. I don’t have a big table to set it on and have the warp supported. If I was to take it off the stand, how do I get it back on by myself after it is warped. Do you have any recommendations of how this would work? As always, I love your posts and your clearly presented videos. Many, many thanks.

I cannot waot to try this. I live alone, and this is my achilles heel. I have yet to have great tension after winding on. Ty

Тоже интересный способ. Видела. как мужчина привязывал бутыль с водой к такой планке для натяжения нитей, но и этот способ удачный, если длины стола хватает.

I'm a little confused by your question Janice? Are you trying to use a weaving draft to weave on a table or floor loom?
Do you have a class on weaving drafts for dumbys

How would this technique work for a long warp where you don't have a table that's long?
@KellyCasanova
9 ай бұрын
You could either warp from your stand, if you have one - or use a warping board on a smaller table.
Any suggestions for warping in a tiny home without a table or stand? I don’t have room for either. 🥰
@KellyCasanova
2 ай бұрын
Do you have a flat surface like a kitchen bench you could clamp the loom to? Some space challenged weavers will use a small fold out table.
@The_loopy_knitter
2 ай бұрын
@@KellyCasanova haha, nope, my living space is super small, my table is only 20x27” and the largest open area is only 21x36”. But I ended up drilling a piece of wood to the foot of my anchored bed, so I can clamp the peg unto it and still be able to open the fridge. I can set on the bed and hold the loom to keep the tension while turning the knob. I don’t think any of my projects so far need to be longer than the bed. 🤣🤣🤣 During the summer I can build a table outside to set up my warping threads. In the winter I will need to be inventive. Thank you though.

@@The_loopy_knitter Good on you for looking for solutions. I know a lot of weavers who travel in mobile homes over summer and warp outside using picnic tables.
I’ve always warped alone with the crank and yank method, using many fiber types. This looks fraught.

The type of loon you are talking about is more of a hobbyist loom. Classes, if you can teach yourself, you will discover new things yourself. The weavings will reflect you personally and choices. Find an old weaving book, let your creativity and interest fly, relax, have fun. Over the years it will develop. Your weaving will be your own. There are very few rules you need to know about weaving, then weave with abandonment. I do get it that some weavers do it for many reasons. I believe many people don't stick with it. The results of weaving, the things created can be breathtaking. I can still be impressed with the things I make. I have and continue to be a weaver. I plan to weave as long as I am able. Keep challenging yourself. If you buy yarn from the yarn companies, all their yarn looks the same, an is the same. Of you follow others patterns and use the same yarn, it all looks alike. Try using different weights and fiber content for warps. Mix thin and thicker yarns, wools, cotton, rayon,silks, different textures in the same warp. Don't rely on old, standard patterns to add interest. Most repeated patterns, can be boring. We can all follow the set rules. Make your on path as you become a more experienced weaver. Mistakes are good we learn from our mistakes. Your weaving will reflect it. We are capable of more than we think. Take your weaving from looking like a paint by numbere oil painting, to a really truly individualistic piece of weaving. It will have it's own soul and that soul is you.
