    Kelly, I love your videos and your online courses too. You have helped me learn through the rigid heddle looms (I have two), and then I got the 32" Ashford 8 shaft table loom and bought your table loom course, and I am so glad I did. I just started weaving last August 2023, and am now a year into learning and 62 yrs. I weave standing up at the table loom and that really has helped me avoid the back problems from sitting, and standing allows my arms to work at a more relaxed way, with less shoulder strain. But I also have loom lust and wonder if I might want to try a floor loom too, and also am looking at a counterbalance. Anyway, I am just really curious about the thing you're weaving, it is utterly beautiful, would you mind directing me to a pattern source? Thank you so much for all your lessons and advice, you are so generous.

    Wonderful work! Don‘t know if you are waiting for my two cents to add, but here I go. I would definately not add sashings. It will destroy the beautiful contemporary feel to this quilt. I would do a broader border around it. Then, I would sew the long strips for the binding, mostly solid colours, but randomly incorporating all the fabrics that you have, no matter how small. do not measure the pieces, just pick them up how they come. This will end up being a lovely one-off binding for your quilt, adding coherence to it and even enhancing the contemporary feel. I think it will look absolutely stunning. Good luck!

    @kellycasanova could you use the same (8/2 weaving cotton) thread to sew the hem, or do you really recommend sewing thread? I don't mind if the thread is visible, but I'm wondering if it would look clunky with the weaving yarn,

  • @KellyCasanova
    @KellyCasanova13 күн бұрын

    I would really recommend sewing thread as the 8/2 would be too thick for my liking. You want 1. Something you can thread through the eye of a sharp sewing needle 2. Something that is going to slip through your woven threads nicely without displacing them. I also like to use a good quality polyester sewing thread as it doesn't break (normally I prefer natural materials but for sewing I have learned the hard way that polyester is stronger).

    So, i was wondering about weaving velvet...also incorporating real gold in the velvet...i looked at liaso institute in Italy. Really, i was praying and saw a vision of a thick light blue speckled with gold velvet yarn knitted into a blanket. Well, apparently velvet used to incorporate gold during the Renaissance era. Anyway, looking for an online tutorial...

    Good basic overview. One hint or infrequently used machines is to use it every few months. My wife pulled out one of her older machines today for a specific job (she has machines ranging from the late 1800's on up to computerized and industrial and uses most of them). The machine hadn't been used for years. It wouldn't change stitches or reverse. We spent 1/2 an hour taking it apart and freeing up the mechanisms that were stuck from old oil.

  • @KellyCasanova
    @KellyCasanova16 күн бұрын

    That's a good tip. My mother had a machine when I was growing up that never seemed to work properly the very few times it was pulled out, maybe the infrequency of use was the problem!

    This is such a beautiful and important video. It is filled with wisdom and kindness to all human beings, Weavers and non-Weavers. I especially liked the idea of the “downtime“ as regenerative and exploratory as much as possible. I, too, agree that the table loom took a whole lot more effort and stress on my hands. I am very happy with my new Louet Spring II.

    Dear Kelly - Thank you so much for this video. Whether mental or physical, we all have our bad days. I retired from teaching third grade last year (age 75). Yes, I taught for 34 years after raising my children at home. I loved my teaching so much and I have missed it this year. I bought my loom a year ago in anticipation of having time to weave and sew. I recently joined your classes on line and have started watching your videos and learning to be a better weaver. I have sjogrens which is an autoimmune disease, so I do have some depression, but not much physical pain yet. I love the real you. In fact I started watching your free you tube videos because you were more real, more gentle with a sweet spirit that has kept me interested in weaving. Thank you for being so honest and for your incredible patience during your video lessons and you tube presentations. You are a vey special person. I am in Florida in the USA and as you can imagine - no one weaves here - just too hot I guess. I started because my Mom had a friend that did weaving and I just loved it. After my Mom passed away, I wanted to stay in touch with her. Thanks again for being such an inspiration.

    I have to admit I have never heard of Sjogrens and had to look it up. I'm glad it's not impacting on you too much. There are weavers in Florida, I have students from there, perhaps you will come across them in the member's group.
