This sounds great. I bought an old td160 a couple of years ago to become my first turntable. I've been waiting to get the time and find instructions on how to properly restore one. A detailed walk through like this sounds like exactly what I need. 🙂

Hi Tim, i am new to the Thorens TD-160 TT. Your series of videos just suited my needs for understanding the turntable, and give necessary restoration when times come. In 17:04-17:20, you have mentioned 2 replacement belt brands including Thorens and the other. Would you mind to give me the name for reference? Thanks again for all your time and contributions, good health!

Hi Tim, thanks for the video. I have a Thorens TD 160 that I would like to clean the aluminum top plate, any advise on how to do it?

What are the feet you are using on the TD 165, didn't fully understand the name you mentioned? Are there 3 feet instead of 4? thanks

Glad I found this video. Somone near me has a TD160b mkii for sale for around $400 and I've always wanted to own a Thorens. Currently using a Fluance RT85 and am happy with it, but still....Thorens. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the difference between the TD160B mkii and a "normal" TD160. Looks like this one I'm looking at has a TP16 tonearm also. Curious if the "B" is a downgrade at all from the original, same with the mkii.

The mkII arm is slightly different. It uses an arm wand with different headshell than the TP-60: audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/thorens-td-160-mk-1-tune-up-and-setup-project.991147/

How did you get the sub platter to pull out. Mine does not pop out. Almost like their is a clip or set screw hold it. It comes out a bit but not all the way.

I have heard that some sub-platters had a locking mechanism on the underside that can be released but I have not come across one like that myself in person... Read this: www.canuckaudiomart.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19161

So much imformation, thankyou for sharing. I own a 160 which is my main deck and a 150 which l am restoring. What l noticed when you were showing your modified deck was the decals for speeds and queing. Where can l get them as my 150 is missing a of them?

Here were the 33, 0 and 45 adapter pads I made for 3D printing on that turntable you saw in the video. I should have the up, down cue pads somewhere if you want those too? Most of my 3D Thorens models are available to download for free on Thingiverse. www.thingiverse.com/thing:6004694

Do you work on people's turntables? I'm in Maryland. I have one of these and would like a professional to do maintenance.

Well, once upon a time I lived in Maryland for 3 years while I was on Military Exchange from the Canadian Navy. We lived just outside of Waldorf and I worked at NAVEODTECHDIV, Imdian Head, MD as a Navy Diver Bomb Guy😉😱 Sadly, I returned home to Victoria, British Columbia and could not be further away in Continental, North America. 😪 Lastly, I am really just a hobbyist. There is a fellow up in Boston named Dave at Vinyl Nirvana who is likely the best guy in North America. I know he is dialing back on his restoration work but it would be worth checking into as he is probably the best guy in North America to work on Thorens tables. Regrets. Here is his web site😉: vinylnirvana.com/

Just pulled out a td165 out of the closet after 40 years and trying to clean it up again. It works fine but the platter edges have discolored over time. How did you get yours so shiny?

guide stuff here. thx. funny story on my Thorens TD 240 - I tried to change cartridge , butchered the tiny wires going to back of cart - WHY do they not even have an insulation tube covering the plug in / wire connect , at least to provide a bit of additional strength. !! this is NOT , to my thinking, a cheap unit. So I. have a t'table worth approx 2 cents. sure looks like replacing the entire wire inside tonearm is impossible. thus should be more durable. I'm 73. found my hands can't do this sort of thing anymore.
