Christo, I really like the natural balance, weight shift, and pivot I obtain from the OTT. I feel like my entire body is swinging in a tighter & faster circular motion, but with even more accuracy and less grunt force than before. I am a My Swing Evolution member since Feb 2022 and have enjoyed the extra insights from your videos. This week I played my 1st game with the OTT and got stronger through the round. I usually degrade by the end of the round because I get tired and lose my form. I think the OTT method for mid irons/woods and your short game method is going to be a game changer for me in 2022. My goal this year is to get into the high 70's and attend a My Swing Evolution golf clinic in 2022. You approach the game like a martial artist (Student for Life).

I am really buying into this and will implement this year. When I first started playing golf in the late 1970s, I was taught by my instructor the "3 Ps", as he called them: Pull the club to the inside on the takeaway, Pick the hands up at the top of the backswing and Push the club down the line on the downswing. I reached my pick in the mid 1980s, until life happened and I was forced to quit golf a a couple of times. When I returned to playing regularly, I found a couldn't resume my playing level, so I went for numerous lessons and my swing was ruined as each instructor attempted to give me a more rotational modern swing, having me focus on twisting my torso against a quiet lower body and turning around it. I felt like I no longer had a swing, but a movement that, if I don't perform correctly results in getting stuck and lot of low hooks. Your videos on OTT have inspired me to try and recreate my original swing.

Good stuff Christo...interesting that Mike Austin taught the release from the top method since 1930's and advocated keeping the muscles in a supple not active and tense state. David Duval advocated the same feeling in his swing in a golf channel demonsration. While he stated it may not be what it looks like when watching his swing it is what he felt. I call this my trap and sling move. This all came together when I really focused on opening my hips through the impact zone. The swing feels more like a spoke traveling around a wheel or arc and it progresses into a balanced finish. As in your video, I am truly able to relax the muscles, free them from tension and feel the centrifugal force at the clubhead, another Mike Austin attribute of the golf swing.

Anyone struggle to use this type swing with irons. Due to some limited flexibility in my back and shoulders I've always come way over the top with my irons. An instructor checked my right shoulders flexibility and said you're a naturally vertical swinger as opposed to a more horizontal like Hogan. By using the mental image of my right hand punching the ball at impact I've been able to achieve a consistent draw and much more consistent accuracy as well as greatly increased distance. Just wondering if anyone else does well with woods but struggles with the irons with this. Thank you SE for all your hard work. Love your videos!!!

Hi Christo. Again another thought provoking video and the responses? I am loving it In my opinion Hogan knew he was an upper body swinger; but, kept it a secret telling everyone in his book to start their downswing with their lower body and letting the arms drop. No swinging over the top of his backswing would be even possible if what he taught was what he did. And yet slow motion of his swing proved beyond a reasonable doubt that his book was « do what I say and not what I do. »He took this to his grave. Remember? This is clearly not what he did. He like most professional male golfers actively use the limited 20 degrees range of motion of their trail shoulder throughout their swing with their upper body strength, swinging their club with their hands and arms over the top of their backswing that actually quickly shallows their club plane for the head of their club to connect directly to their ball at impact; all the while allowing their lower body from the hips and down to the ground to be reactive to their upper body strength during the entire time they are swinging their club. This is exactly what you are doing now: not what Hogan taught; but what he actually did. And so am I. Think about it. Cheers ❤️😃⛳️👍👍

I go back and forth on what Hogan taught. He clearly said he had some secrets he didn't reveal. The important thing about this particular video is my lower body is working great and I'm no longer focusing on what it's doing. The lower body is reacting to where my club head is. Good stuff.

The figure eight or diagonal X factor as I like to call it is limited to the 20 degree ROM of the shoulders This told me you are a great upper body swinger of the club with lower body reaction from your hips down to the ground and now so am I; and starting my downswing with the push of my trail shoulder to my target it makes it impossible for me or any to do the bad OTT. Cheers ❤️👍😃⛳️🥂

It's an important fact to state the legs and hips are what move the club into the appearance of an OTT swing. While the hands may be above the plane of the backswing it is caused by the slide and turning open of the hips. I don't it works without them sequenced in the proper chain action as Ben liked to say, does it Christo?.

One thing that all the greats strikers had was an extended slide and turn toward the target and advocated the hips and lower body were the engine of the swing. From the backswing to the follow through if you watched Hogan and Knutson on the grid background they moved aproximately12 to 15 inches to the left. Knutson could do this because of his wide stance which Hogan also advocated depending on the club shaft length as the stance should narrow or widen depending radius of the arc. Modern irons have the COG dead center. That little “up, down and out” move was the best way to hit the sweet spot on the irons for pure contact. The confusion most people have is OTT is the throwing of the right hand but your reasoning is hand in downswing over hand in back swing. In Hogan's 5 lessons he states that downswing plane should be lower than back swing plane and NEVER about anything OTT. Now you are describing Hogan swing as OTT. Maybe hand path and shaft path is the reason. In your OTT the hand is steeper but the shaft return inside to the ball whereas the bad OTT has the shaft return outside to the ball. Please elaborate.

Christo, this reminds me of Brad Hughes who says the backswing doesn’t matter. I think he’s dead right. You just have too look at the different backswings on tour.

It's just not true, that "IF" the hands are further away from the body in the "proximity" of contact (above where they were at address) that equates to being over the top, even if this OTT is a re-definition of the "traditional" OTT. The key missing piece that refutes; The MASS of the clubhead will "almost" always carry the hands higher in the downswing near impact. The clubhead mass often, but not always, pulls bent joints straight. Among those joints included are; Wrists, elbows and shoulders. So very much like a object of mass on a string, the faster it is spun, the straighter the string becomes. We know this is true, and can be easily tested for by putting a straight-edge ruler on the club-shaft in this video at address, and then keep it there all the way until impact. What we will see is the shaft plane of the club is higher than at address. That means, in the context of this topic, the hands HAD to be under an influence of a force, or the plane was intentionally manipulated. There are caveats, as some players "intentionally" counter-act these forces and the joints remain bent longer. Regardless, those forces generally are building throughout the downswing, and usually the longer the club the more the hands will rise. Now, IF the player is intentionally raising the plane then ok, that's great and there's nothing wrong with it, especially if the results are good. But honestly, giving this a different name would be better and eliminate confusion. As always, all the best, love the content!

@@MiracleSwingExperience Excellent question. As OTT minimally would include a change in path, not just plane. Meaning the clubhead MUST travel outside a well defined line, usually the target line, and then come back across it. What you are describing is a change in plane. Clearly Ben Hogan, Sammy Snead, and many others did not normally cross the target line and then come back inside of it, UNLESS it was intentional, probably to shape the shot. So inside, up and over "the plane". It has occurred to me that there have been GREAT players who started there downswing with their upper body, BUT then resync'd with the lower body quickly and STILL came from the inside. Annika Sorenstam is an example of this, she has a small upper body move FIRST, hardly noticable but it's there. So from that perspective these players are OTT for a few brief moments, but then get it all taken care of long before impact. Now compare her to Craig Stadler that you mentioned. He is definitely OTT in the traditional sense. I'd coin the phrase, Over the Plane ("OTP") - Much better 🙂 God bless Christo!
