I'm 48 hours away from a 12-man golf trip, not sure this is the video I want going into that. I'll come back in a week, thanks!😂

Matt, super unorthodox and counterintuitive teaching… I love it! You have an awesome way of explaining things, step-by-step, and breaking it down. Keep up the great work!

This video is incredibly helpful to me - even though I thought it was crazy when I saw the title 😂 . I've been playing golf for only 6 months now and recently got a launch monitor. All of my club path numbers have shown a very high in-to-out path (> +9 degrees) number and I didn't know how to fix it. After recording my swing on video, I saw a lot of flipping at impact as well. I've been struggling for the last 2 weeks trying to mess with swing changes and didn't even think about shoulder position. Just a few practice swings using this method and my path is closer to on plane (+1 degree) with this swing thought. Thanks for this one!

Matt, this was great perspective and tip to help what I have been fighting my whole life. It just dawned on me, the over the top move shifts the swing ark from down the target line to left of the line. Making sure the hands drop down to almost horizontal before making the shoulder(over the top) move keeps you on plane. Brilliant! Now let’s go practice!

Matt, Great insight here! Really brings the awareness of where you are in the swing to light. Thanks for this.

l started golf when l was 26 and l got to a single digit and l left the game in 2009. A few months ago l picked the club and started hitting balls and saw these KZreadrs and guided a few of them in learning the swing etc. Back in the day, l didn't know there was such a thing as KZread lol and l played golf by way of hitting balls in the driving range teaching myself what l learned from tv, books, and videos which l could hardly afford back then. l had a very over-the-top swing and l learn now and also over swing as they say but now l am older l can't swing like l did back then cos age had creeped up and l used to play with a Titleist 690 CB/DGX100 which l still have lol. The swing these days had gotten so complicated like the technology and l started following misinformation. I think about the new swing and my back says NOPE! My back is sore and you know it so now l am going back to the classical swing the over the top swing so l can be easy on my back. I used to have a fade now it's a draw/hook which my eyes can't relate to lol. l watched these KZreadrs teach and my back hurts just by watching them.

My golf instructor taught me this a couple of years ago as I was coming under plane. The "over the top" feeling would always get the club back in front of my body and on plane.

Ive been intrigued by this move touted by another YTer. He talks about it incessantly, shows students and his own OTT swing. However, never instructs how to accomplish without costing a ton of $. I am too golf poor now to use him. This explanation is very enlightening. Thumbs up.

This is brilliant. I've been struggling through some swing changes for the last year. Basically I've arrived at this same conclusion. Instead of trying to stop coming over the top, the hands just needed to come out late.

hi, would u call this a fade swing pattern, and would i be looking out for a (slight) right to left swing path on trackman? would I then play around with face angles to shape the shot between the extremes of a pull and a slice?

I have done it all the time witout thinking on it. I take the club slightly inside my hands and in the downswing I set my hands in the right "spot" which looks like Im over the top, but my club path is inside to out with little steeper swing. Isn't this called reversed slot.

On short shots I can often do exactly the part form the hands by the knees to the finish. But when I try to fet that same motion as the last part of a full swing I find it very difficult.

Before I hit an iron shot, I take slow swings with the butt of the club infront of my knees pointing towards the target for as long as possible without flipping my hands to get that low lag feeling. If i don't do that, I almost always come over the top, at the top, and my divot will point to the left 😅

Corey Pavin used an OTT move in his preshot routine and he did ok. Sometimes OTT happens with a poor inside takeaway, leaving no option to hit the ball.

I would’t call what you demonstrated as over the top. A real over the top move is when you swing outside in and have the club either open to the path or closed to the path. The former will result in a pull slice and the latter will result in a pull hook. Your demonstrated swing was more of a neutral swing with both path and club face.
