LOL, NBA had tons of advertisments, sold billions of dollars worth of merchandises, had financial backing from the elites on each franchises, 100x more viewerships of NBA regular game than WNBA's championship game. There is no pay disparity. It's just WNBA is not popular as the NBA.

They have a chance here to greatly increase their player salaries because of this woman’s talent. I’m all for that, but I’m not all for paying people money that just simply isn’t there. Well yes, and her projected draw/viewership will dwarf the huge majority of NBA. So why she's making less than 6 figures really makes no sense. How does the NBA make the majority of their revenue? Viewership, and ticket sales. Who is the biggest draw right now in basketball? Caitlin Clark. You understand her college games gets more viewership than NBA FINALS right? You literally need to go back HALF A DECADE to find an NBA FINALS that gets more viewers than Caitlin Clarks game.

@libfit9068 the WNBA players have a collective bargaining agreement. They get paid on the current numbers. The current numbers the league operates at a $10 million a year LOSS. Going forward will viewership numbers rise.. will attendance rise MAYBE. You are talking about the numbers of a college championship game. Those numbers were FANTASTIC good job by the women. No way to predict what the WNBA will do..but based on past seasons..numbers are terrible. Even if they improve...the cost of the WNBA League pass is $34.99. For every game of every team the whole season. Right now the business is not profitable or viable and is subsidized by the Men's league. Instead of being outraged...everyone should right now either sing up for the League Pass or get season tickets for a local team. Besides some these ladies picked in the first round will make MILLIONS in endorsements. Complaining about their league salaries right now makes ZERO SENSE and smells of fake outraged sensationalism by non sports fans that just repeat what they hear because it sounds good. Steph Curry gets paid millions because he makes Bilions for the owners that pay him. Instead of being outraged let's support these women by buying tickets and / or watching the games. THAT is how they will start making real $$. Not by silly protests.

The outrage should be coming from the men, not the women. NBA players receive 41% of the $10.58 billion dollars the league made in revenue last season. To be “equal” that same standard should be applied to the WNBA and their $200 million revenue, which would pay an average salary of about 4K to each player. Fair is fair, to say the women deserve more money only displays ones ignorance on the subject.

It's impossible for this same subject to come up again and again. At this point I have to believe it's just wilful stubbornness now, like deliberate refusal to accept reality.

The NBA has 30 teams playing a 82 game regular season. The WNBA has 12 teams, this year, playing 40 games each. The NBA's TV deal pays $2.8 billion whereas the WNBA gets $65 million. The NBA gets $93m per team or $1.1m per team/per game. The WNBA gets $5.4m per team or $135k per team/per game. I would image all other revenue numbers are also this far apart. It would be nice for the women to make more but it's going to take way more fans, higher ratings, and time to get to any sort of equality.

People that work typically make enough revenue to support and maintain their business. The exception comes from government jobs. The WNBA has never once had a profitable year in its existence. It loses money every year, the fact that the league still exists is dependent on the subsidies from the NBA. WNBA players should be thankful for what they have, because any other business or league would have folded years ago.

It's simple create rivalries... Fans loves narratives, fans love a story. Create drama... Build excitement.

If this happens then we need to also make pay equal for WNFL and NFL, then work our way down to college football players to get paid the same as NFL players, have high school football players come out and say they aren't getting paid anything so they need to earn the same as college football players, and finally anyone playing football should be paid the same as high school football players because equality.

The last time I seriously watch a WNBA game was in the early 2000s when Lisa Leslie was still playing.

Why do people insist on trying to make this men vs. women? Most WNBA players make more than the G League players, who are men. And that’s because even fewer people attend those games. Plus, how much more do NBA players make now than players did when the league was only 26 years old? It took Magic and Bird to rekindle interest in the NBA. Perhaps Clark and Reese can do the same for the WNBA.

Its not a charity, the pay of teams are determined by number of sponsors, which in turn are determined by a number of eyeballs watching the sports. Fact of a matter is WNBA has failed to correctly market the sports events for women who are the target audience for these sports. No misogyny involved, just general incompetence.

Yeah, that's the thing, most women don't care about sports and those who do, care about the top level men's game (like men do). That's the reality of all sports fandoms, they watch because they want to see the best human beings at that sport, not the best of a particular gender. No one is interested in most lower male leagues either. Some women's sports do have some prestige and create multi-millionaire female athletes like tennis and MMA, but even then, it's not on the same level as the top men. Serena Williams was a great female tennis player, but she and her sister got their asses whipped by some chainsmoking German dude ranked #203 among men in a mixed match.

Salary is related to ticket sales. Nobody is buying WNBA tickets.
