Outbreak - Sunrise Ferreting 5

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

A warm winter has allowed a terrible virus to break out, infecting many rabbit populations.
Myxomatosis was discovered in South America during the late 1800's. It was intentionally introduced into Australia in 1950 in an attempt to control the problematic rabbit population. Two years later the disease was introduced into France and found its way into Britain a short while after. It's unknown whether it was intentionally introduced into the UK, but once in the country, it was certainly encouraged to spread.
The virus is transmitted through biting insects. Mosquitoes spread the disease over large distances in warmer climates. In the UK rabbit fleas and tics are mainly to blame as they carry the disease on their mouth parts from rabbit to rabbit.
The symptoms include puffiness and swelling around the head, mouth, eyes and genitals. Infected rabbits often seem slow, weak and unaware of their surroundings. As it continues the rabbits develop a fever, struggle to eat and can go blind. The disease takes hold within days and kills most rabbits in under fourteen days as they develop pneumonia.
Humans, dogs and ferrets cannot catch myxomatosis as the disease exclusively infects rabbits. Infected rabbits that are found should be humanly dispatched and preferably buried to prevent present parasites from moving on.

That was super cool to watch! Ive had ferrets for pets and read that they make excellent hunters but this is the first time I ever saw them hunt rabbits. They are so freaking cute! And after watching them hunt, they're obviously even MORE intelligent than I already thought they were! :)

If you want to gain POV of the ferret, there are some pretty small cameras you can find on eBay, you can use that in conjunction with the radio collar most likely so you don’t lose any range of motion and don’t cause any means to get bound in the burrow with he ferret.

Got something rigged up! It kind of works, but it gets dragged along the soil and bashed off rocks. Once I get some worthy footage I’ll show it. It will never be footage as clean as the usual method but I could start a mini separate series if it works out.

+Tyson Pressly I think the cottontail doesn't burrow as much as the European rabbit? I might be wrong. I have used my ferrets to flush rabbits from long grassy areas but due to their slow speed it isn't very effective. That might explain why ferrets are not used. Joseph Carter uses mink to hunt small prey. I'm not exactly sure where in the US he's based. You may find that grows in popularity over time. Here's a link to his channel kzread.info

You know we as people tend to think of how cruel this is, but the truth of the matter is if these rabbits aren't kept in check they could easily over populate the area in a very short time..seeing how prolific they are. Thats alot of rabbits in the small area. Look at the rabbit problem that they have in Australia.
