OTG Goggles SUCK! Try This Instead!!

Спорт

I've struggled to find a good solution for my eyesight when i'm on my mountain bike.
Riding with my specs gives me the best all round vision but offers no protection.
So i thought i had found the perfect solution with OTG ( over the glasses) Goggles as i would get all the protection i need but still be able to ride with my specs on!
Well as I found out OTG goggles suck!!!
But I have found a solution!!!!!!!

They sell OTG goggles that will fit well over the glasses. Put helmit on, slip eye glasses on then goggles will slide in place without any fuss. The goggles you have are not OTG goggles. good demo, the best to you.

It's been 10 months since this video is uploaded. How are the RX inserts been treating you? I have the same "problem" with motorcycling, especially on the offroad bike. I have a helmet with visor but the ventilation is horrible in summer, so I always get sand and dust in the eyes from underneath my glasses (internal sunvisor acts as the safety glass).

You just have to put first the goggles an then the strap and that's it.. I've been using the Airmega goggles like that with no issues.

This ^^^ First insert your glasses in the goggles (like the OP did). Slide the tips of your glasses behind your ears and press the goggles to your face with one hand and as Felipe said, pull your strap over your helmet with the other hand.

Have worn goggles for skiing forever and never had a problem getting them on over my glasses. I always check that the goggles fit and when I buy eyeglasses I look for frames that aren't too wide.

Try scott split OTG goggles. Wider than Oakley air brakes but goes over glasses quite easily. Might depend on your glasses too of course. I wear Oakley sport style glasses regularly so these worked for me.

I bought a set of non OTG goggles (100% Racecraft 1 - old model) and cut out the plastic + foam untill they fit nicely. No worries getting them on and off even though I have fairly big glasses 🙂 Not sure if it works with the never model, but cant see why it shouldnt.

I tried contacts. Don’t like them. They feel funny. Eyes kept watering which made my vision worse. Plus the optometrist told me contacts will never be as clear as glasses. And it took me nearly all day to get used to the vision contacts gave me, kind of like getting used to wearing glasses all over again! I can get my glasses in my Oakley Airbrake but it is a faff like you say! So what seems to be working is I unscrewed the arms off my glasses. Drilled a hole in two zip ties put the little screws back in holding the zip ties and cut them to the appropriate length and basically made my own RX lenses out of my old pair of glasses. Doesn’t look quite so silly. Seems plenty stable just mucking about riding down the street. And I’m still looking through my old glasses! And don’t have the faff of the arms.

@@DownhillDesireMTB hey Gordy, I run an Opticians shop and couldn't agree more, inserts are ok but contacts are the best. They should be able to correct any prescription (pretty much) and you can get a free trial at a lot of Opticians including 1 on 1 coaching to get you up and running using them. It's unlikely you'll have glass lenses in your specs, most are plastic but contact lenses are still safer in a crash too

@@benjaminwhite9423 Hi, sorry to jump in on the conversation without an invite but your comment got me questioning my optician. They told me that for my astigmatism only RGP lenses were an option and not soft daily. They wouldn't recommend the RGP for MTB due to the muck and stuff flying around. Does this make sense or should I persue a 2nd opinion?

I have found that the insert Rx lenses simply don't sit correctly in the goggles I have tried. FOG!!! Yes FOG is the BANE of all eyeglass and goggle users. It can happen anytime the head starts heating up int he helmet, regardless of weather conditions. Ands it sucks so bad. If you want a MUCH easier google solution, get a pair of ROKO sport goggle quick strap. This replaces the goggle single strap with one quick connect on one side of the helmet, and a hook and loop one the other side, for fast super easy on/off. I have been using this system for over 4 years, with OTG goggles over my plastic Rx glasses. One final suggestion, get some strong Rx sunglass frames (I use Ray Ban Daddy-O) and get clear Rx lenses put into them. They do not flop and slip off the head inside the helmet. When using with OTG goggles it's the best solution short of laser surgery and standard goggles. I am not a candidate for laser surgery, wish I was I would have done it ages ago.
