How To Choose Eyewear For Mountain Biking | All You Need To Know
Спорт
For many mountain bike riders, glasses and goggles are a vital piece of equipment when heading out to ride. They have a number of functions including helping protect your eyes from harmful UV rays, wind, rain, dust and bugs. If you are thinking about getting yourself some riding glasses, (and why wouldn't you, you only get one pair of eyes and protection is important) then you are in luck. Neil talks you through the various types of mountain bike eyewear and features to look for when making your choice.

I say, the 5-10 dollars safety sunglasses are just as good, and you won't cry when they get scratched or you lose them etc. Also, they're made for protection, they certainly won't let some pebbles break it and hit your eyes. Excellent UV-protection and minimal distortion too. It needs some time to find the perfect model though, some are just garbage.

It is all very well getting mountain bike specific glasses and gloves etc, and I have done that. But honestly if you are an average biker, I have found I have now gotten more protection, durability, wearability and value for my money by getting most or all of this stuff from my local hardware store.

As a manager I actually encouraged my employees to use safety gear at home and I was fine with them taking gloves, ear and eye protection, etc. To me I didn’t want them to get hurt, be at home or work. And I didn’t want them to miss work! Anyway, there I was crashing on my bike a few weeks ago. I went over the bars and I landed right on my head, near my right eye and ear. I went full scorpion and dragged my face across some rocks. My helmet saved me from an ambulance ride and the safety glasses I borrowed from work saved my eye. Time to get some new safety glasses!

Hi Rdke32... do they fit over eyeglasses, can you change the tint. I'm a bike commuter and ride in all light conditions including a lot at night.
I wear my goggles because I look weird riding with a full face and no goggles 😂
I'm happy with my flight jacket I have the same ones in this video and they are great in all conditions even when it gets darker in and out the shades.
Jawbreakers with photochromic lenses is what I use for MTB and road. Sometimes too light for the road but it's still a good compromise.
I have prizm trail and they are incredibly good I just loved what they did with colour around me 👍😀
i just use crossbow glasses with prescription inserts i have from another hobby, works great.
For everyone who can't put up with the extra cost of premium glasses, R2 make some really good low-budget options. I got a pair of excellent riding glasses for about 30 quid.
I tend to just wear standard Oakley gigs, namely the Holbrook frames. A yellow tinted lense (even their purple/blue looking lenses are yellow when viewing through them) really helps to pick out details on a casual ride round here and also amongst the gloomy woods/forests we have in the NW of England.

All well and good Neil, but what about people that need prescription eye wear? Maybe you could do a piece on that.
I don't always have the arms on my riding glasses over the helmet straps. It depends on the shape of the arms and the position of the straps. The aero shape of the glasses isn't important to me. Even when on my road bike I still wear baggies, a trail helmet and use a rucksack. I also have a rack and a bag mounted on the rack as well. I do try to wear my glasses for all rides. Sometime I am not able to. I remember a wet ride I was going to. I put my glasses into my helmet. When I got to the start of the ride a friend who also doing the ride asked me if my glasses has steamed up. As I wasn't wearing at the time I didn't know if they had steamed up.
Yellow lense ski goggles are amazing. They are designed to pick up the contrast in the snow.

What's your opinion on the z87+ rated pit vipers?
Hi! Thanks for a very nice video. I notice your examples are all Oakley but you don't mention prices as I've found Oakley to be extremely expensive... yet maybe like you say you get more premium materials. I'll wear goggles as a bicycle commuter in winter as the cold dry Minnesota air on my eyes causes a lot of tearing. Anti-fogging and if they fit over your eyeglasses are major considerations in Minnesota as all of your googles appear great fitting for people who don't wear eyeglasses, and perhaps ride in moderately cold temps right? I also found out with your competitor, Smith goggles, that ski goggles in general are tinted lighter, not like sunglasses, because they are designed for skiers that don't look into the sun but look down at the snow all of the time, so if you're a commuter and need tinted as in sunglasses the ski googles won't reduce the sun enough. I had to return my Smith ski goggles that look a lot like your Oakleys. With my eyeglasses they resulted in much pressure on my nose by them being too big with my helmet and not tinted enough for commuting use.

do they make a goggle/sunglass hybrid?? like a sunglass with foam and a head strap? when I ride with my sunglasses and get sweaty, they don't keep the sweat our and they move.. I don't want to wear full blown Moto goggles on a trail ride
Jawbreaker is the best for me..
3:41 I always have glasses under straps. You might pull off the glasses accidentally when taking of the helmet, drop them and damage lenses, so....them roadies are dumb ;-p
I bought the jawbreaker low light, I did a nighttime ride and I realized halo and double vision on the artificial lights… is a defective lenses? Or is normal?? I preferred to take off my glasses.
It's hot here, so goggles is probably out. I don't wear any right now and I've been hit with bugs and stuff on my face lol. Good thing nothing on the eye yet
