    Same. Female weightlifter. Sure I like feeling strong but I acknowledge that as a female I have limitations. Sure it sucks but that's life! I'm sick to death of girl bosses, strong independent asshole female Mary sues being shoehorned into everything. I want to see my female characters struggle, overcome, have a bloke come in to help them out when they're out of their depth. Ahsoka is a great character, I dunno what they're doing with her in this show. It's so disappointing.

    Men took their looks and women cheered. Men took their magazines and women cheered. Men took their beauty pageants and women cheered. Men took their sports and women cheered. Now men will take their place and women will question what is left for them... only no one will hear them because they will have cheered themselves hoarse. In all honesty, it's because they want women to be manly and men to be girly. It will upset our species and cause a massive decline in the human population. That's been the intention for the past 60 years. They're doing a decent job in the west.

    Why does every story need romance to begin with? Why can’t we just see characters being loyal friends or partners who always have each other’s back. Seriously, modern-day shipping of characters has become so lame that I kind of wish romance wasn’t just so forced by the public.

    @@osmanyousif7849 it's been a while since I've seen Rebels, but I believe Ezra and Sabine had a will they/won't they, or maybe a blossoming romance, thing going on. I don't think a story *needs* romance, but changing characters and their relationships in this way to meet a quota or advance an agenda is shady. Wanting to find love, specifically romantic love, is part of the human condition, so naturally we want characters we like to experience it so we can experience it in a way ourselves. For most people, romantic love is part of being a complete person so it makes sense that a complete character will experience romantic love in some way, even if it's unrequited or never comes to fruition. Again, not necessary, but it deepens the character and enhances your connection to them.

    At around 1hr15min in, the discussion of this show just being for women- I can confirm that cookie cutter girlbosses aren't popular with most women either. Last year Netflix released a movie based on a Jane Austen book, "Persuasion". The book's heroine (from Regency England) is very smart and capable, but also very reserved. The Netflix version cast the very modern Dakota Johnson, and there were *tons* of complaints from women that the character was now the typical sassy girlboss- which made no sense in the story. Lots of female-centric channels were in a rage over this, including ModernGurlz, Mina Le, and Karolina Zebrowska. The question was asked, why can't there be gentle female characters anymore?

    It is a bit of a shame that "Drinker & Co" are not also into that type of movie because it is an exellent case study that this trend of "modern strong female caracter" is by no means reserved to fantasy/sci fi/action blockbuster. A channel called "The myth maiden" did a very interesting video on this topic called "What gets lost when Jane Austen gets updated for modern sensibilities". I did not watch the new "Persuasion" after seeing Karolina Zebrowska's review of it, because I love Jane Austen, and the 1995 BBC adaptation.

    Because feminism demands that we all pretend that men and women are interchangeable. The girlboss plague is a brute force attack on our minds. They think that if we see enough women acting like men in fiction, we will eventually believe that thats how women act in the real world. Unfortunately for the feminists, people know deep down that its a lie and they reject it, even if the dont understand why on a conscious level. They want to erase male and female archetypes. They call them "stereotypes" and they say theyre wrong, but that is not true. Archetypes resonate with people. They are timeless truths that make stories believable. The warrior is a male archetype. The mother is a female archetype. Portraying women as warriors is as false as portraying men as mothers. Feminists constantly put men in womens roles (aka "pregnant man" or "house husband" ) and women in mens roles (aka "strong and independent woman" ) in an effort to prove that men and women are interchangeable. Its trying to put a square peg into a round hole and it will never work. They will inevitably fail because they are rebelling against reality itself.

You can be a 4 star general but you are a general in logistics and you do not need to know all the Area 51 secrets. Imagine how crazy it would be if things worked the way they do in the New Republic. There would be no way to keep anything secret because any one of the 22,000 generals and admirals can accidentally release classified intel as opposed to only 3 or 4 who actually needed to know the intel.

    It's a minor point that just magnifies, but I'd really like to ask someone that made Ahsoka what Saber form any of the characters are meant to be using. The sequels roughly get away with this with Rey not being trained at all anyway, but Ahsoka was explicitly trained by two of the best fighters in their form in the galaxy. Ahsoka then trained Sabine, there should be a noticeable form and style in the way she fights and there just isn't. There aren't even notable signature moves like Anikan just Saber Slamming the shit out of people. You either manage to block it or you die. I dont know if the current writers even know the forms exist but they certainly don't care.

    Maul and Anakin can survive getting decapitated in half. Palpatine survived from getting thrown off from a Death Star. Leia was able to survive floating in outer space. Boba Fett can survive from the Sarlacc. Grand Inquisitor and Sabine survived from a lightsaber stab wound. Poor Qui-Gon. Only he can't survive with less seriousness to the injury. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Han Solo came back from the dead. Heck, Mace Windu comes back with a mechanical hand and he was simply hiding for years under the name Nick Fury. Imagine Darth Maul got split in half by Obi-Wan with blood gushing out and even he got to live longer than Qui-Gon. I guess you can say Qui-Gon got "taken" from us too soon.

It’s like saying “I know where the Star Wars galaxy is (I’m inside it!) so I can find anyone on the thousands of known planets”. Secondly, what was originally hidden in that ancient temple? The only logical explanation (they did not explain in the show at this time for some stupid reason) is the map is linked to the space whale's migration route or whatever and this is where Ezra and Thrawn ended up when Ezra made the whale jump into hyperspace whilst holding the ship they were on. Thus the map will lead you to Thrawn because it will lead you to the endpoint of the whale's historical intergalactic migration pattern or whatever. I'm not saying it is good btw, just that it is logical but they failed to spell it out.

    Herra was a completely different character from Rebels. She used to be a pilot that was downright motherly with Ezra and Sabine. She was a loving girlfriend too. They stripped away all of her softer sides and replaced them with 'General Herra' the girl boss. Animated her didn't even want to be the leader of their little family. Her man Kaanan played that role and she was totally cool with it. I get that he died and she became general and had to step up. But they didn't let her be caring and soft in private family moments either. And that brings up my other complaint: she and Sabine were like family, not just allies. They act like they are only coworkers now. Sabines issues are harder to articulate, all I'm sure of is I didn't dislike the cartoon version and the twat in this show can get fucked with all that bratty, arrogant shit.

  • @pubcle

    @pubcle

    11 ай бұрын

    I did dislike Sabine's cartoon incarnation, but that was mostly because it's entirely non-Mandalorian and Filoni's treatment of Mandos in general has been as bad as Ryan Johnson's treatment of Luke Skywalker, arguably worse since it got people on-staff who built the Mandalorians to leave Star Wars entirely.

  • @SolarDragon007

    @@pubcle Whatever her flaws were as a writer, Karen Travis handled the Mandolorian Lore way better than Filoni ever did. TCW is really where the utter ruination of Mandolorians began when they decided to retroactively make Jango, and by extension Boba Fett, not real Mandos.

  • @pubcle

    @pubcle

    @@SolarDragon007 I think a lot of the criticisms of her works are extremely overblown, especially when you compare them to Filoni. He's incapable of doing lore in general, including within his own or within Disney. He seems to outright despise consistency. They're also outright magnum opuses when compared to most of the new Disney writers, such as Chuck "And. - -And and. Then from from then. But but. Then - And. But. And - and - - - - - - - - - - - - and. And. And. -" Wendig who has "10 years in writing RPGs so don't talk to me about writing." Seriously, the guy's prose could give My Immortal a run for its money and he wrote one of the main books for Disney's abomination. Nearly everything Disney has that wasn't written by someone who was in Star Wars before the purchase is genuinely worse than the Jedi Prince series. Anyways... Karen Traviss _loved_ Mandalorians. They were her babies, she practically made them what they were in 2002-2008 and how beloved they became as a faction to the general Star Wars audience. Her influence can be seen in all aspects of them. She wrote the language, poems, created so much for them. Filoni has done nothing but destroy them and cast things that are completely at odds with them in every way. He's the reason she left the company. He's also the reason Leeland Chee was pretty much forced out, the lore keeper of Star Wars who was responsible for coherence and consistency. He was the first destroyer of Star Wars.

    The part about the space map leading to Thrawn. It is not leading to Thrawn. The space whales use a specific space route that goes back and forth between the faraway galaxy and the one of Star Wars takes place. The map shows the route the space whales use. At the end of Rebels, Ezra used the space whale to jump into hyperspace and the show will hopefully be at least good enough to explain the space whale ended up at that end point and the witch deduced that somehow. Because that's the only logical way that ancient map McGuffin makes any sense and I don't understand how they could not use a minute or two of their runtime to explain THAT point.

    I hope MauLer does an EFAP, I always take an interest in those long and steady analyses of the modern trainwrecks. Filoni was always pretty mediocre. It took me some time myself to realize that he was in many places a bad writer, and it took learning the skill myself to some degree to really understand that and why. Filoni gets away with it for the most part because he is usually very good at one particular skill in writing and directing, which is writing emotions and compelling the audience to share in those emotions. This is aided by how most of his audience is already invested before he lifts a finger. He's further aided usually with the disguise of it being a kid's show and having other material to fill in the gaps somewhat as well as animation. What started my hatred for the man's works is what he did to Mandalorians in The Clone Wars, which is the equal of what Ryan Johnson did to Luke Skywalker.

    The guns in dune (maula pistols) are firing darts slow enough to enter the shield, hence why Duncan is able to deflect one with his sword. They are in the books and are very short range because they are so slow. Similarly the things which destroys the Atredies ships are simply timed bombs, you drop them on top of the shield, when they slow down enough they drop inside and the shield then traps the explosion inside with the ship (very bad).

    Also, it is rare for Jedi and sith users to use the gorse in hand to hand combat, but, for instance, some Jedi masters like Master Mace Windu, had a unique and specific combat style involving using the force to enchanted his hand to hand combat as exemplified in the Star Wars the clone wars the animated miniseries from 2003. And even master Jedi can be gunned down by overwhelming numbers of droids or even clones, how else do you think that order 66 was possible? Or the fact that a non force user cyborg like General Grievous was able to hunt down and kill scores of Jedi and Jedi masters? I think these writers forget that not every force user is a chosen one, that for most Jedi aside from Anakin, are often not as invincible to droids and clones. I feel like they just make every character a chosen one, since they have disillusioned themselves on how powerful other Jedi were, and how, to an extent, a lot of these other Jedi they make overpowered did not complete their training as padawans, or sometimes any training. I mean, look at the Jedi Fallen Order game, where they show how most of these padawans are suppose to be in power compared to literal chosen ones, where you don’t try to kill Darth Vader, you are just trying to stay alive, while Darthvader is casually and single-handedly staving you off, where the only way for you to get away is by literally having him hold back an ocean while you run away… that is the. Kind of disparity there is suppose to be with someone who is the literal chosen one and someone who isn’t a Jedi master… and a self proclaimed Jedi master doesn’t count.

    My first impressions of Ahsoka were good for about the first 2 minutes. Here we are again with a map, key, that leads to a person that is hiding/exiled. It’s so sad and predictable. Then there is the character of Sabine. She was never disrespectful and would have had a greater connection to the planet Lothal since she helped to liberate it and is friends with the locals. Then let’s talk about the force and Sabine. Why is she all of a sudden a force user, that doesn’t use the force, and an apprentice to Ahsoka that isn’t a Jedi? The whole thing felt like manufactured drama. I get that it is science fiction but this was some CW drama crap and it is just old. The attitude she conveys is more teenager than person in their late twenties, which is what she HAS to be if she were a teenager in rebels. Then let’s talk about tiny princess. No idea of her identity at all and she’s a night sister? A powerless night sister? They are going to make her and Ahsoka fight again, mark my words, and she’ll have powers that she didn’t use before. It will be a stupid reason and it will make the Mandolorian story even more convoluted. Moving to Ahsoka herself. Sure she has been through a lot but she has NOT been a Jedi for 20+ years. She has zero personality. Stoicism does not make an entertaining character. Not really. I’m not saying I want her to be Jim Carey from the Mask, but some personality would behoove her. Then there is Hera. I will consistently always have a crush on Mary E Winstead, but her performance here is more like a mother than a Naval General. She has emotional ties to not Ahsoka and Sabine but there are aspects to this that just don’t add up with how the dynamic was set up in the show. The plot, I touched on this briefly but there are details to both episodes that would not line up. From the captain of the ship letting people board with what is clearly a fake identification code, to an explosive device that could clearly destroy the key/map, a person being stabbed through their body and not dying, to a general in a navy being assigned nothing but a snub fighter. I don’t like it so far because it is too trope-ish and cliche.

    I'm actually watching Ahsoka Ep 1 a second time and I didn't realize the captain in the beginning is Mark Rolston. He portrayed Bogs in The Shawshank Redemption, the leader of the Bull Queers trying to rape Andy (Tim Robbins). Then Hadley (Clancy Brown) beats the living shit out of him in that film. You can also see Mark Rolston in that first Rush Hour film and The Departed. The man gets very steady work. Cool to have two Shawshank alumis and the goddaughter of Bruce Lee who knows Jeet Kune Do and Filipino arnis in Ahsoka. I remember watching a little bit of Die Hard 2 a couple months ago and I didn't realize how muscular William Sadler was back in the day. He was like doing tai-chi butt naked. He was Heywood in Shawshank, The Grim Reaper in Bill & Ted 2 & 3, and the POTUS in Iron Man 3.

    The fact that Disney managed to turn Ahsoka into such a boring, unimaginative show is honestly nothing short of impressive. At this point, I expect the Rey movie to feel like an extended episode of a Disney+ show, complete with cameos and nostalgia bait.

    The Ashoka series is more destructive to Star Wars lore and canon than what appears at first glance. It establishes that George Lucas' galaxy is part of a multiverse and you can travel between them. Since this series takes place between episodes 6 and 7, Disney can now say that the Sequel trilogy took place in a different Star Wars galaxy and that's why legacy characters acted different and lore was seemingly broken. It can also allow them to re-tell the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker (Episodes 1-6) as it unfolded in this new Star Wars galaxy, effectively retconning the George Lucas universe and his extended universe. They can then win any argument by simply saying that was the old universe, this is the new one. Why do you think they have lines like "The past is the past. Move forward." Being able to travel to new galaxies opens the door for cross-over series as well. I keep hearing rumors of Star Wars vs. Star Trek which could now be a possibility. I'm not sure if Disney is smart enough to think of this, but one of the mandates for Star Wars was go bigger. What's bigger than a galaxy? A multiverse full of galaxies that can be explored. I hope I'm wrong. Please tell me I've overlooked something, but I've got a bad feeling about this.

    "A long time ago, in A galaxy far far away." There is only one galaxy and anything else is not Star Wars; though that is redundant since Disney Star Wars is not Star Wars.

    Unfortunately, they don't seem to have learned their lesson from the multiverse in Marvel. Plus people are sick of multiverses being poorly done. At least I am. They don't even use it in interesting ways most of the time, it's usually used to cover up lazy writing. Even Spiderman No Way Home is a plot line I'd only watch once. They can't reuse that concept without it feeling stale. That being said, I thought No Way Home was overhyped anyway. I think people were just starved for a half decent movie at that point. I'd give it a 7/10

    @@warlock6a29 Except not really, they're bastardized, hollow, meaningless versions smashed in without a thought into the consequences or continuity. As bad as Disney continuity is, Filoni destroys it himself in the same way he decimated the EU, with at best complete apathy, if not malice, for anything that interferes with what he believes is his creative vision and changing things just so he can put his stamp on them. I can't wait to see how he slaughters Thrawn this time, as if his treatment of Mandalore the first time around in TCW didn't hurt the fandom, writers, and integrity of Star Wars enough, nor his subpar use of Thrawn or Tarkin in Rebels.
