On The Hunt Ep.33 How Much for a 359 Project Truck?

#onthehunt #littlebylittle359 #twinstickgarage
So a friend told me there was a 359 Peterbilt at the upcoming fall auction so I decided to take a break from truck building and spend an afternoon walking the yard to see what’s for sale. Found a lot of cool old trucks and some other neat items. Even found what will hopefully be my next truck - a 379 long hood flat top with a C15 Cat … to bad it went for over six figures - guess I’ll have to keep looking for old 379’s rotting in a field as that’s the only way I’ll be able to afford one. Did eventually find the 359 but it was “inoperable” but still went for a pretty penny…
Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and support!
Keep in mind, I know a little about a lot but not an expert in anything … just doing the best I can, learning as I go ... I do all my own stunts
Enjoy watching the progress of this ongoing Peterbilt 359 restoration the Kenworth W900A Smokey and the Bandit tribute project, and the upcoming #IronDuke Kenworth K100 cabover I’m planning to build up like the one used in the 70’s trucking movie High Ballin’ with Jerry Reed and Peter Fonda.

Mercedes Benz, Detroit, and Freightliner are owned by the German co. Daimler. That's why you see those engines in Freightliner trucks.

Tanks on the mixers are "Add Water" tanks. Insulated to help keep water hot in the winter.

The rubber tandem suspension is Hendrickson-Norde. Decent articulation but a very harsh ride when lightly laden. Advantages are low maintenance when compared to springs, lower cost than airbags, and overall durability. Disadvantage is barely being able to climb down from the cab after a bobtail run due to crippling back pain 😆 Great work, Mark, I really like being introduced to all these Canadian trucks 🙂

Hey Mark. Mercedes-Benz (now Daimler Truck) bought Detroit Diesel, Freightliner & Western Star years ago. I live in Michigan, and work for a Canadian company and we are developing a new axle technology for Daimler trucks. I don't want to say to much more in public till the system launches but I can tell you that Daimler highly values the Detroit Diesel brand name and still rocks the old school brand symbol on a lot of their parts. Also the main R&D facility is still in Redford Michigan

The old Fords are still some of my favorite trucks. So rare to see clean and unbroken fiberglass on them like that one had. I would have been hard pressed to not take that one home with me. Awesome video as always, thanks Mark ✌

Shore power is an option when buying trucks. The new inverters work both ways, 12v to 120v out and then plug in and you have 120v plus it charges your batteries. Ideally if you carried a generator you could keep your costs down when waiting for a reload. Also the air gauge on the back of the bunk was probably for him to check his weight. The bigger they are the more accurate read you can get to check weights

Thanks Mark. Being a young boy in the 70s and 80s here in the UK we loved seeing the trucks on the TV and movies. We're a long way away, however they look awesome over here too. Thanks for all the hard work, love the channel!!
