@@geraldstorseth8902 You're correct. Kris Kristofferson actually wrote it but at that point was only a songwriter and actor. He recorded it also for his debut album in 1970, the same year Ray Price recorded it.

My dad (Bob Emerson) is the drummer on this record! He recorded and toured with Ray Price for about 2 years (I think). I don't know which other cuts my dad played on during that time, but I know for sure that he played on For The Good Times. He had been a "big band/swing" orchestra leader in the 40s, 50s, and early 60s, but he always said that rock-n-roll put him out of business. People didn't want to go out to the ballrooms to listen/dance to big band music any more. He just couldn't get the hang of rock drumming (by his own admission), and I suspect that he wasn't good enough to play jazz either (which he loved), so he ended up playing country for the rest of his life. He wasn't a fan of country, but that's where the work was for someone like him. He had a lot of respect for Ray Price, both as a man and boss, and as a vocalist. However, he wasn't fond of life on the road, nor the drugs that some of the other musicians indulged in (my dad drank and smoked, but drugs were not for him). When another band member secretly stashed his weed in my dad's luggage before they crossed the border, my dad had enough, and left the tour.
Ray Price "I won't mention it again" I am sure you will love it...
You do t know how many Beers I cried into in my life with Mr Price singing this song.
This is very old music but it is timeless and beautiful...
Smooth as silk. That's Ray Price!
In the 70's this beautiful Ray Price song was on every Wurlitzer jukebox in every country bar any place in the nation. "Don't Look So Sad, I know It's Over".
#1 hit for weeks. No other version can compare to the original.✌️♥️
Love his voice. Beautiful.
Ray Price! The King of Countrpolition music.
this was huge.....top of the country chart....Ray Price was singing this all over the pop radio too....i would think this is the original ...
Haven't heard this for many years. Thank you. Ray was so good.
I'm SO happy that people are finally listening to the great Ray Price!!

Al Green did a fantastic, completely different take on this one, written by Kris Kristofferson. Check out Ray Price's version of 'Night Life'!
Ray Price YOU'RE THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME.
I just teared up listening to this. My dad (Rest In Peace Daddy.) loved Ray Price's music. I do too.
Ray Price had a captivating voice. I was a child when first hearing this song sung by Ray Price. I recall thinking he had a really nice voice.
One of the best songs ever!!!
Ray Price (1926 --2013) is one of my musical heroes. His voice has a certain quality to it that is hard to describe ---So I won't. Ray, Jim Reeves and Eddy Arnold changed their style and went kind of mainstream. They call it Countrypolitan. Nice orchestras with lush, smooth sounds. No nasal noise or twang. Ray recorded "Release Me" in 1954 and it did okay. But Engelbert Humperdinck made it a smash hit in 1967. Ray's version is wonderful. It's perfectly suited for him. others who did it justice : Elvis, Dean Martin and Perry Como.
How smooth is Ray Price love it
Yes Al Green covered this country tune, and did it brilliantly soulful. He made it his own.
Just beautiful 🙂💕
Other Kristofferson songs: Sunday Morning Coming Down, Help Me Make It Through The Night, and Why Me Lord are my favorites, in addition to this.

Do " Nightlife" written by Willie Nelson.
This is classic country. Ray Price, Jim Reeves, Eddy Arnold....All greats!!
Always loved this song.
have always loved almost all ray price, and especially this one. ray price was about the 3rd person to record it, but he made it a # 1 hit. also, al green recorded it a few years later. finally, this is one that kris kristofferson wrote (and he also recorded it prior to this version).
"For the Good Times" is a song written by Kris Kristofferson, first recorded by singer Bill Nash in 1968 before appearing on Kristofferson's own debut album in April 1970. After a recording by Ray Price became a #1 hit single in June of that year, the song established Kristofferson as one of country and popular music's top songwriters while giving Price his first chart-topping country and western song in 11 years.[1] "For the Good Times" continued to be recorded by a number of artists in subsequent years, to popular success. It became a staple of soul singer Al Green's concert repertoire in the 1970s,[2] also featuring as a studio recording on his 1972 album I'm Still in Love with You.[3] A version by Perry Como spent 27 weeks on the UK Singles Chart peaking at #7 in August 1973.[4]

When Kris was writing those songs for other people he was a pilot for Petroleum Helicopters in the Louisiana oil field. My dad knew him well as he flew him out to the rigs every week.
Grew of listening to Ray Price. This is my favorite song!
Such a beautiful voice.
It came out as a country song and Ray price was a country. Glad y’all love the song love watching your react vids
Ray Price was a country singer. He was known as the Cherokee cowboy. He left us in 2013 I believe.
Oldies but goldies ! Choosing some great music! Keep it up!🎶🎶🤠🤠🎶🎶❤❤
I can totally hear my Pops singing this. He’s been gone since 2004. I can’t believe it’s been so long.
Other C & W performers have done this ---------but no one beats Ray price to bring the tears.
This song always brings tears to my eyes.
I remember my Mother playing this song on the record player. Her eyes were full of tears. I didn’t understand divorce until I was grown. I wish my parents hadn’t left each other, but I love them, and they loved me.
the ultimate break-up song....came out as a country song and then crossed over to pop in 1970 and was a mega-hit for a singer who had never had a really big hit but had been a solid artist in Nashville for 3 decades....he finally got his before he retired
This takes me back to the 60s. I can hear my dad singing it. She's Got To Be A Saint. My dad was an alcoholic and my mom never complained or asked for anything When he got sober I'd be watching him sing it with tears in his eyes. You 2 need to listen to King of the Road by Roger Miller.
These were the songs playing when your Mom and Dad went out dancing.
Such a beautiful song. Used to sing this at Karaoke with my dad. Gosh I sure do miss him
Ray Price was the first Country Artist to introduce the use of a Full String Orchestra with this song "For The Good Times".
Remember dancing with my dad when I was in my twenties he was old school dancing. Two step dancing ❤️❤️😢
The man the myth the legend that was Ray Price. This was written by Kris Kristofferson. Ray was a full blooded Cherokee Indian. Interesting fact he was had Willie Nelson in his band. In the later years Ray didn't have a band he had a orchestra. Just close you're eyes and pick. You won't be disappointed. His voice was pure silk
You guys will love Linda Ronstadt and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. “What’s New”, “I’ve Got a Crush On You”, “Someone to Watch Over Me” to get you started! Love the music and the reactions!

I absolutely LOVE Ray Price. I grew up listening to him because my mother loved him too. Try "April's Fool" and "I Won't Mention It Again" ❤
Music when it made you feel. I remember my grandparents dancing to this dong.
there are no songs like we listened to in our yesterdays.
Ray Price was the first country artist to go GOLD
Jim Reeves and Ray Price was two of the smoothest voices ever
My mom and dad listened to the REAL Country Western (Ray Price, Eddie Arnold, Jim Reeves, Lefty Frizzel, Bill Anderson, Charlie Pride). I still have some of their old albums, and I'm 66 years old.
His voice is as smooth as butter 🧈
This, along with Witchita Lineman, my two fave country songs.
He had so many hits over the decades. She's got to be a Saint, My shoes keep walking back to you . Etc
This song stayed on the country top 40 charts for almost a year.
One of THE all-time heart breakers. A truly sad song.
I have always loved this song.
This is the type of song that makes me happy that I grew up with this type of great music and it makes it easier getting old.
One of the great Country Artist.
My mom used to listen to this song a lot when I was a kid. I didn't appreciate it until I got older, and now it's in my top 5 favorite songs. I loved your reaction as soon as he started singing. It was exactly the kind of reaction I would expect for anyone hearing this magnificent song.
It was huge on country radio back in the day, number 1
One of the smoothest voices.
He was around 80 years old when I saw him perform and he was still awesome!
My late mother LOVED the country crooners...Eddy Arnold, Jim Reeves and of course...Ray Price. And this recording WAS HUGE!!!
I loved ray price. I listened to his songs growing up. It was country music. You should listen to his song "make the world go away"

I'm so glad people are finally catching on to Ray Price!!!! Oh yeah, the Ray Price rabbit hole is now open! Gotta love it.
One of my favorites is "Night Life" bluesy honky-tonk sound
Sounds great and brings back good memories.
This one by Ray Price always brings tears & love 💕 It is so beautiful ! Written by the oh so talented Kris Kristofferson, and it was a huge hit for Ray Price as well as Al Green 💗💥 ** Check out two versions of ‘A Rainy Night In Georgia’ one by Brooke Benton ( I think you have reacted to) BUT after listening to BB version try a duet by Conway Twitty & Sam Moore ( formerly of Sam & Dave duo of the 60’s) Both will get to you 💎☮️💜😻🇨🇦
I remember this song when I was a kid. My mom played these songs on the record player every weekend. It sure brings back old memories.
This brings back memories of my mother God rest her soul she listened to Ray Price and Jim Reeves all the time, She would say they were her men and she don't share lol

I love this song! It's sad but so beautiful! I remember when it was out in 1972. I loved it then and love it now. Mr country crooner...Ray Price.
Ray Price IS the Frank Sinatra of Country, he was Hank Williams' best friend. Try: 'Crazy Arms', 'City Lights' :)
My parents played this a lot when I was kid. Warm memories of them dancing.
I’m near 70, but my Dad used to listen to this when I was 13 right after my Mom died. I still feel the sorrow he went thru, whenever I hear this song. Not the same kind of loss, but close. No one sang it like Ray Price, not even Elvis.
This is so funny because for me it was a reverse reaction when I heard Al Green's version because Ray Price is my father's FAVORITE. When I heard Al Green I loved this song even more.

My dad was a hard nosed steel working man, he would always sing along to this one. Tear up too.
my dad, a musician, once told me if a song is well composed it can be arranged in any genre and can be good
Ray Price is the G.O.A.T
Ray Price, was major big time country music singer for at least 50 years, that was the original and was written by Kris Kristofferson, another great song writer and singer, amazing performers the older sing's music had meaning back then music today has nothing but mixed up words no soul to it and no storyline. Great song guy's keep it up.
Written by Kris Kristofferson in 1968 and first recorded by Bill Nash. Ray Price released it in 1970. Al Green shortly after. Ray Price's rendition was the biggest hit of all. It was Ray's first chart hit in 11 years.
I just love your videos!! There's a lot of great music from the 60's that you'll totally enjoy!!!!!
Beautiful song ,love your reaction ❤️❤️

The great Ray Price. Wonderful performance, beautiful song. Makes me want to sip on some whiskey with the lights down low.
This takes me back to my mom having this record on-a Saturday morning with her singing. I have always loved this song!
I love his voice!!
Hi Shawn and Mel, this was the original. It sure is beautiful, every time I hear it, I just melt. These older songs have such an intensity of emotion in so few words. Takes my breath away.
I was in Vietnam when I first heard this song. Loved it immediately!
