I noticed that once he sat on the hat he sort of half closed his eyes as if he seemed to really enjoy the smooth surface. I wasn't too surprised he crawled underneath it. It would have been a proper ending to the video if had managed to turn of the light. :-)

How about putting drums or a keyboard in with the octopus and see if s/he: 1. Makes any sounds by accident or on purpose. 2. If sound is achieved, as in #1, what reaction does the octopus have? 3. Does the octopus try to recreate the sounds exactly? Make new ones? 4. With more than one instrument, would s/he make ever more increasing complex sounds?

How would the octopus react to something that doesn't hold a firm structure, like a Koosh Ball? Everything we've seen so far has been a hard object, with perhaps the exception of the bristles on the broom and brush, which are attached in a fixed way to a hard surface and hard for the Octopus to move.

Been following this channel for a while now, and I love to see how an octopus’s mind works. However, it’s not so different from my horse and dogs when they encounter something new and different. To me it just seems the octopus is more gracious in exploring “it”. Guess it also has to do with the fact that there is no sound. My horse snores, grunts and throws a display (he’s an Arabian stallion), my dogs explore vocally.

Love this channel and btw, the theme had a mission impossible like vibe on occasion which was hysterical and perfect. Thank you for sharing these wonderful creatures with us! 👍 PS, I was thinking a rubber duck would be funny to see how he reacts :) I was wondering about colors and whether he likes one particular color more than others.

I think this is the best one yet, because the octopus really seemed to respond to the light. Maybe more experiments with lights, like strobes, colored filters, etc? The problem with the other objects you've tried (including the hardhat itself) is that the octopus reacts to them all the same way: 'Is it dangerous? Can I eat it? Can I hide in it?' It makes the series a bit samey.

I have some suggestions for future videos: 1. See if the octopus can use a tool to get at a reward; there are some interesting videos showing crows doing this, some with quite elaborate setups, highlighting their intelligence. 2. Test their ability to recognise shapes and colours: put a reward behind a particular shape or colour, then rearrange the positions with the reward behind the same shape or colour and see if the octopus remembers and recognises these features.

I am new to your channel, and enjoying watching your content, I have a couple of questions if you don't mind,. Are they in an empty tank all the time or moved to it for filming? Do they get to keep some items that they seem to show a real liking for? Are they your pets or study animals? And do they have names, do they recognise you? None of these questions are because I wish to cause any drama, I an genuinely interested as I find octopuses wonderful and they remind me of a curious child the way they look, touch and play with the items! This channel to me is a wonderful relaxing and educational way of forgetting the drama of the world around me. I am so grateful to have found this little oasis of calm in an upside down time, for that I am grateful x
