Octopus Reacts to Construction Hat - Episode 8
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
In today's episode our curious octopus comes face to face with the trusty construction hat. We fitted it with a headlamp to make things a little more interesting.
Watching these magnificent creatures react to objects they've never encountered in the wild is always fascinating to us. Every reaction video gives us a little more insight into their complex and magnificent minds. We hope you're all enjoying them as much as we are,
What would you like to see in a future episode of Octopus Reacts? Let us know in the comments.

I noticed that once he sat on the hat he sort of half closed his eyes as if he seemed to really enjoy the smooth surface. I wasn't too surprised he crawled underneath it. It would have been a proper ending to the video if had managed to turn of the light. :-)

Aww I love the reference to this old tv commercial! I can't remember which hotel chain it was, but doesn't the guy say: "I'm Tom Bodett and we'll leave a light on for you".😆 Tom Bodett was a running gag in our family for years!

Well now he's hooked. You will need to give him a variety of hats to try on.
Was this a subtle way of trying to convince the octopus that he's an essential worker who needs to work during the pandemic? Unfortunately it worked. He'll start Monday.

Every move these creatures makes is amazing to me! They're So Graceful and curious that every move seems to be like poetry in motion....don't you think.......peace&love💜💜💜
I SO love this octopus! He’s so curious and has such a sense of adventure. I think Pirates of the Caribbean may have given some folks creepy feelings about octopuses, but this guy melts your heart, puts a smile on your face and makes you grateful for such wonderful creatures. I should start a fan club for him/her.
I was kind of hoping he'd swim around wearing the hat.

It would be gold :D
I don't know why ... but, that music, to me, is so 'fitting' for this video 😀 My favorite so far -- his reaction to this one.
How about putting drums or a keyboard in with the octopus and see if s/he: 1. Makes any sounds by accident or on purpose. 2. If sound is achieved, as in #1, what reaction does the octopus have? 3. Does the octopus try to recreate the sounds exactly? Make new ones? 4. With more than one instrument, would s/he make ever more increasing complex sounds?
He seems to really like that hat!
Ever wish you had an extra hand when building something? He has that covered.
I've watched abour 20 of these explorations. I KNEW he'd drape himself over it, and would eventually discover the good hiding spot inside!
All that trouble, and in the end it doesn't even fit.
How would the octopus react to something that doesn't hold a firm structure, like a Koosh Ball? Everything we've seen so far has been a hard object, with perhaps the exception of the bristles on the broom and brush, which are attached in a fixed way to a hard surface and hard for the Octopus to move.

I love this question, but I’m also concerned the octopus might think it’s food. They are pretty smart though, and probably wouldn’t like taste of it on their suckers. A soft sponge is another thing I don’t think we’ve seen.

2:52 "Oh nice! A new den!"
"Yeah, maybe this is a good place to hide. But it could be dangerous. Until I can really check it out, I'm going to be more cautious than Admiral Akbar." "OK, looks legit. I'll just hide in here."
LOL! It’s like the octopus was giving the hat a lap dance!
Makes sense that a cephalopod would appreciate a good hat.

Hells yeah
Been following this channel for a while now, and I love to see how an octopus’s mind works. However, it’s not so different from my horse and dogs when they encounter something new and different. To me it just seems the octopus is more gracious in exploring “it”. Guess it also has to do with the fact that there is no sound. My horse snores, grunts and throws a display (he’s an Arabian stallion), my dogs explore vocally.

He looked at home on that hat and then he made it his home 😍
Octopuses are so very intelligent. It amazes me to see how they check out everything that’s put in their path.
I love how, when it realizes the helmet is hollow, it just decides "You know what? This is my new hiding spot."
2:50 I was waiting for that. :) "Ah-HA! A new cozy cave for me!"
This one is my favorite react video so far, keep 'em coming. 😁🐙
Have any octos been presented with interactive items, such as levers that turn lights on and off? Or that release an object that he/she can further explore?

Cracked me up when he hid order it!
Is round and yellow like a den.🤔
I just love these videos. I have seen the names of some of the octopuses before but does anyone know the name of this one. I was thinking it's the older male but I wasn't sure. Love this channel and btw, the theme had a mission impossible like vibe on occasion which was hysterical and perfect. Thank you for sharing these wonderful creatures with us! 👍 PS, I was thinking a rubber duck would be funny to see how he reacts :) I was wondering about colors and whether he likes one particular color more than others.
I knew he was going to slip under it! Priceless!
hes gotta be thinkin "man i find a lot of weird shit in this tiny ocean of mine"
He loves it! One smart octopus 🐙
I think this is the best one yet, because the octopus really seemed to respond to the light. Maybe more experiments with lights, like strobes, colored filters, etc? The problem with the other objects you've tried (including the hardhat itself) is that the octopus reacts to them all the same way: 'Is it dangerous? Can I eat it? Can I hide in it?' It makes the series a bit samey.
"This is my new home now"
OH YEAH DIONG IT OCTOPUS STYLE!
I knew it would end up inside it. It’s so much like a hollow rock or the hides you give them already. It did seem I retested briefly in the light though!
I have some suggestions for future videos: 1. See if the octopus can use a tool to get at a reward; there are some interesting videos showing crows doing this, some with quite elaborate setups, highlighting their intelligence. 2. Test their ability to recognise shapes and colours: put a reward behind a particular shape or colour, then rearrange the positions with the reward behind the same shape or colour and see if the octopus remembers and recognises these features.
The octopus is probably more curious about the light from the flashlight.
I am new to your channel, and enjoying watching your content, I have a couple of questions if you don't mind,. Are they in an empty tank all the time or moved to it for filming? Do they get to keep some items that they seem to show a real liking for? Are they your pets or study animals? And do they have names, do they recognise you? None of these questions are because I wish to cause any drama, I an genuinely interested as I find octopuses wonderful and they remind me of a curious child the way they look, touch and play with the items! This channel to me is a wonderful relaxing and educational way of forgetting the drama of the world around me. I am so grateful to have found this little oasis of calm in an upside down time, for that I am grateful x
Seems to have claimed it as a den.
Octopus is very intelligent and prévisible Amazing video
one of the best videos yet!
Another Octovideo! He wants to know if one of the workmen hired to build him a new den has lost his hard hat. Can someone help an octopus out?
LOVE your videos!
I thought for sure that pus was gonna turn off that infernally bright flashlight.
These creatures in the wild, live in a very dark environment and I wonder how stressful it is for them to be observed in these very artificial conditions. LETS OBSERVE THESE BEAUTIFUL CREATURES IN THEIR NATURAL WORLD.
I think your octopus likes yellow objects 😋
Safety conscious octopus
If they had turned off the lights I bet the Octopus would have glowing areas along the tentacles, a bit like fairy lights
I knew she was gonna end up inside!
The octopus has so many sensory inputs into its brain from eight legs I wonder if they only had two or three legs would they still have so many sensory inputs would it shift to the intelligence side of the brain. No I do not mean to cut off those legs I mean if there was a genetic change of some kind. I wonder who is more intelligence, on our scale, the Dolphins of the Octopus?

Rumour is, he got a soul-crushing job, but negotiated a decent health plan
I would love to see how the octopus reacts to music. Classical music vs pop...
As he reacted differently to colours in the Christmas episode, I wonder what would happen if you tried the same experiment with the same hat in different colours.
So, I was wondering: Would it be possible to place a Barbie doll or maybe a baby doll in there to see what they think of miniature "people"? Do you think they'd react as though they really were people?
Have we tried a disco ball yet and a mirror?
They look so much funnier if you think of the (mantle/body?) as a big nose. 2:10 :)
He's gonna end up using it as a den

cant decide if it reacts or just doing octopus stuff...
Would like to see a light with an off on switch and then add a dimmer switch, and different color lenses.
" Un chapeau de construction " ? ? ? In french language : " un casque de chantier ! " 😉
Great music
Do they react to different colours? and what is their reaction to warmth/heat? I’d love too know... such a little cutie 💜🐙🐙🐙
*This might not be a good idea because maybe it would freak them out* but what about something that changes colors? Like those lights people put in cocktails
How will an Octopus react to Toys? Like a Car, or a Figure of something for example.
Happy World Animal Day!
❤️
What about an octopus reacts to a toy octopus experiment?
Who else came here after watching Netflix My Octopus Teacher?
Totally non-verbal & all limbic sensation & curiosity, like my bunny. Except 1 of those 2 things has wet, slimy suckers!
Is the hat neutrally buoyant for a reason?
@jic1
3 жыл бұрын
It's not neutrally buoyant, if it was it wouldn't have dropped back down after the octopus slipped under it.
You're not fooling this Octopus. No, sireey. It must be getting boring for it to be confronted with plastic based components all the time. How about a silicone glad, waterproof, mini robot that had colour changing facility and that could mirrow the octopus and chase it about the tank for a bit of variety?
Have y’all tried to give it a iPad yet?
