OCTOBER WRAP-UP

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

It's my October wrap-up! I had such a great reading month. Plus I tell you about THE FISHERMEN, one of my faves of the year and one that I somehow forgot to mention last month. Okay, running to get a cupcake. Ameriie, out.

    I love when African authors are mentioned in videos on KZread, or online for that matter. It really makes me so proud. :) I told myself I had to read more books covering stories from the continent. I started reading 'Half of a Yellow Sun' by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie not long ago and must say I'm finding it really humorous. It paints such a relatable picture of home.Chigozie Obioma's book sounds really interesting. I might just pick it up soon. My father passed a lot of books -- by Nigerian and South African authours -- which he read during his youth on to me as well, so I have plenty to look forward to :P As usual, great video! :)

    Yay! A new video! *grabs a cup of tea* I have heard/read nothing but good things about 'The Fishermen', I need to read it. Actually, I want to read more books from African authors. 'The Dorito Effect' seems interesting. What you quoted from the book about addiction reminds me of what David Levereaux witnessed in 'Sweetness #9'. Last month, I read 'Sweetness #9', 'High Rise', 'The Kind Worth Killing' (easily the best book I read this month) and I finished the 'Southern Reach' trilogy. The second book was very disappointing but the third one made up for the second one. I am currently reading 'Daughters Unto Devils' and I can't put it down :o!

    "The Fisherman" is on my list of must-reads. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Now, after hearing you talk about Clegg's book, I want to read it. Going to have to check it out during the holiday season. I was over here in my feelings when you were talking about milestone birthdays and evaluating life. Went through that last year, and still trudging my way through it! Such a trying time, but great writing material! ^_^ "The Dorito Effect" - Haven't read the book, but I think I read a study, or an essay somewhere… so I need to read this book, too! Lots of goodies in this video! Have you read (or are you planning to read) Ta-Nehisi Coates' "Between the World and Me"??? Everyone seems to be reading it, and it's now on my list. P.S. - Was excited to see this 19 minute video!!

    The Marvels was great, even though I felt gutted by the uncle's revelation in regards to the illustrated story. I was so invested in it, that I think I was more upset than Joseph. I did like Hugo better than Marvels, and Wonderstruck even more than those two combined. But his drawings are just amazing! The Dorito Effect sounds crazy interesting!

    Great video! And funny what you said about hating the father in Everything I Never Told You. I had the same reaction towards the mother. I thought the father was just merely trying to prevent his children from being bullied like he was. And, agreed sometimes he overdid it but I felt that his intentions were mostly good. But the mother... Oh man, I really despised her. I felt that she used her daughter as a replacement for herself and the life she once wanted (becoming a doctor etc.). It probably speaks for the quality of the book that two readers can have such a different reaction to the characters... As always: warm regards form Amsterdam! BB

    Dear Amerie really love your music . Have a question and I think being a huge critic of music and very picky of who and what I listen to I have noticed your instrumentals in your music drown out your powerful high pitch beautiful one of a kind voice . Don't know if you'll ever get around and read this comment but I feel you should try doing a really passionate song and up the vocals and lower the instruments and I love the new song ! Just hard to hear your vocals as much as the instruments and also song seems a little too busy in the instruments . I find you super unique from other artist and I still get hyped to (gotta work) just powerful ! Think need to do some slower songs though just my criticism . Really would like to see someone like you on top in the music industry with all this poor music that's being made it's losing it's raw feel and passion and with your diverse voice which id love to hear more in your songs .Sincerely a fan ! Also ps you'd so kick Beyonces ass in a vocal co

    Sorry butvI have to ask. Is it really necessary to pronounce the 'g' at the end of verbs so clearly? I swear people didn't do this like six years ago. I feel like people emphasize it so much recently. Or is it your accent?

  • @Amerie.

    @Amerie.

    8 жыл бұрын

    Sure. Hmm...I'd have to hear which word stuck out to you in particular...Also, are you American and if so where are you from? Or are you British, etc or is English your second or first language? Just curious to know what your ear is used to/what you're picking up. For the record, my personal peeve is "lazy" pronunciation, like "going tuh the store" instead of "going to the store" or "prolly" instead of "probably."
