books discussed:
This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
The Age of Magical Overthinking by Amanda Montell
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
Bunny by Mona Awad
Rouge by Mona Awad
This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune
Piranesi by Suzanna Clarke
Tom Lake by Ann Patchett
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
The Age of Magical Overthinking by Amanda Montell explores the phenomenon of magical thinking, drawing inspiration from Joan Didion’s book “The Year of Magical Thinking” examining how cognitive biases such as the “Halo effect” and “Sunk Cost Fallacy” shape our beliefs and behaviors. This nonfiction book recommendation will have you feeling at peace and understanding with yourself and your anxiety.
In The Night Circus by Erin Morganstern, a traveling circus that only appears at night, two illusionists compete in a magical game that spans years and continents, unaware that only one can survive.
The Ballad of Never After by Stephanie Garber came after Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber. In this young adult fantasy book, we continue to follow Evangeline Fox's journey through many beautiful quaint places. Her path continues to intertwine with Jack’s; as they go on a quest for several stones to unlock an arch. Contains love, vampires, cozy places, sacrifice, revelation, time, destiny, curses…. this is a great YA fantasy recommendation for anyone looking for a book to read at the beach! Another great book by Stephanie Garber is Caravel, another young adult fantasy book recommendation.
In Bunny by Mona Awad, a great TikTok book recommendation, we experience the spellbinding new novel from one of our most fearless chroniclers of the female experience, Mona Awad, Bunny is a down-the-rabbit-hole tale of loneliness and belonging, friendship and desire, and the fantastic and terrible power of the imagination.
In Rouge by Mona Awad we find a dark, satirical, greek mythology retelling/fairy tale about how isolating and ludicrous our current zeitgeist’s obsession with beauty can be + how it impacts the already complex mother/daughter relationship.
In Tom Lake by Ann Patchett we spend time with a wholesome family together on cherry farm for COVID. This is a great literary fiction book recommendation about a self aware sweet relatable mom telling the story of her acting days and how she used to date a movie star even though she loves her quiet life. Look no further than Tom Lake for literary fiction recommendations.

Glad you’re back Emily! I hope you feel better soon! I just got How to Lose a Time War and I’m so excited to read it. I also finished Bunny and at first I was on the fence about it, but as I sat with it and reread some parts, it actually grew on me more and Mona is definitely a genius!! While it was hard to read from Samantha’s POV sometimes, I loved the bunnies 🤣

New to your channel. If you're looking for some short stories to get out of your reading slump, I really enjoyed Prima Facie by S. Miller or Foster and Small Things Like These, both by Claire Keegan. I'd be interested to hear your reviews of these novellas if you have time. Get well soon!

I have not read Ninth House or Hell bent but you mentioned a rescue from Hell. Tad Williams wrote a trilogy called Bobby Dollar and in the 2nd book an angel gives up its powers to go to Hell to rescue his love, a demon woman. I could not put that one down.
