Thank you for saving these precious souls. I know from firsthand experience how sweet and intelligent raccoons are. There were raccoons that we saw in my parents yard and they were so cute that we would give them strawberries which they loved. Then after some time the mother brought her babies to see us. She came more cautiously into the yard and we noticed bright little eyes behind her. We gave her the strawberries through the gate to the back door and she took them and took them to her babies who emerged to eat. Soon the babies were up at our Gate with anticipation In their eyes for the fruit. It was very touching to make friends with a wild animal and to have her trust us with her babies❤ we put bowls of water out for them and they would always wash their food with their cute little human like hands. Now years later I have a little skunk that comes by at night and he’s so cute he waddles. I haven’t fed him at all I’ve just observed him and how cute he is. My love for animals is open ended and I end up loving all of them. The way they live has integrity because their intentions are very transparent. It’s easy to get along with them. Course I’m not talking about tigers or giant bears. I’m talking about little mammals and little birds.

What awesome fluffballs! I had a racoon when I was a kid, mostly he free-roamed in my bedroom. He was pretty chill as a kit, but once he was full-grown he was a mischievous terror and I had to give him up to someone who had more experience with wild animals. Still, it was quite an experience and I did save his life, so it was all worth it.

Raccoons already have a short lifespan.... So being that big has to be even worse for them..... But the efforts she put in into giving them a beautiful home is just awesome..... I love raccoons, used to have multiple families of them that I interacted with when I lived in Mountain House, California...... But only ever on their terms, and they were never pets.... These two are the cleanest ones, and I don't mean as in they are dirty animals, I mean in the sense of they aren't wet etc from doing what they are needed for, I've ever seen. But I'm not surprised since they were kept as pets....

I used to feed them and the babies chirp a lot and they are so cute. So thankful that you are giving them all the care and love that they need.

Savvy and Mo look like glorified baggers initially. Their home is so pretty

Oh, this is awful - so glad you are moving them in the right direction. I raised two baby raccoons for four months - found them in the middle of the road... We released them two years ago and I still see them from time to time on my trail cam. They are about a third of this size!!! They have had interactions in the wild with foxes and a bobcat and came out of it OK so they are tough guys. They had SO MUCH ENERGY I can't believe they would ever be that heavy. We taught them to find food, to climb, to fish, and everything else we could think of to make them self sufficient.

One thing I found with mine was that any new food was immediately rejected. The next day, they would try it. So just because he doesn't want kiwi today doesn't mean he won't eat it later... I think it just takes a bit for them to understand what is 'food'. Especially if they are used to junk!

I believe doing this to animals is a form of abuse, no matter when it’s a “but love them so much” situation. Had you not helped them, their lives would have been severely shortened and miserable. In addition to the obvious heart issues, obese animals often develop severe arthritis in their joints.. I can’t imagine that amount of obesity came from a healthy diet either. Thank you for helping them.
