How the heck is Olive Oil from Popeye not on this? Not only does she get kidnapped all the time she intentionally goes out of her way to put herself in those positions and she's a jerk to Popeye for no reason to the point where it seems like she hates him. I mean she flirts and flirts and flirts with Bluto but as soon as he makes a move (even when it's not kidnapping her) she is all against it and screams for help.

Cure Hana She should have been here instead of Kayley. Even if people don't think Kayley is badass like I do, there are worse damsel in distress than her and Olive Oil is one of them. In fact, the one character that's a bigger dumbass in distress than Bella is Princess Irene from The Princess and The Goblin. Don't bother with watching the awful movie, just watch a review of it because it's actually just as awful as the animated Titanic movie with the rapping dog. But here is a good reason why she's a bigger dumbass in distress than Bella, she knows that all she has to do to save herself is sing or step on the Goblin's feet (lame weaknesses) and she doesn't freaking do it, despite not being gagged or having her legs tied. Olive Oil and Princess Irene should definitely have been here.

Fun fact: The actress who played Willie (Kate Capshaw) in Temple of Doom later regretted being in that movie, calling her character "nothing more than a dumb, screaming blonde". She said that the only good thing that came out of the movie was meeting her husband, who of course is Steven Spielberg.

Well, Rapunzel had less choice. Princess Peach could've literally had anything. She could've had a machine gun, or a dagger, even a steak knife if it has to be a kitchen implement. And her powerful tears should have acid in them or something.

Ok, Bella was annoying and whiny, but Edward was definitely an abusive asshole. Edward demands she do things for him, for example, he makes her go to prom when she doesn't want to. This is diguised as just being "adorably over protective". He's constantly struggling not to kill her, but it's her fault for "smelling good", like when it's a girl's fault for being raped because she looked good. Anything bad he does is attributed to his "vampiric nature", but she just accepts it. He totally isolates Bella from her friends and family, a common practice of abusers, so of course she shuts down without him. She really has no one else. Bella was a victim of abuse, so I won't "pray for" her abuser.

Andy Gabber Wylde the only reason he is remembered and people appreciate him is because he became red hood. Tim Drake was infinitely better. Dick Grayson and Tim Drake were the best.

Well, then again, you gotta admit that when Robin formed his own group he was a hero with a badass and awesome personality. Plus, he's the only Teen Titan without superpowers, yet he was the leader and the strong hold of the group.

She got her powers from her father, a demonic being that loves to destroy worlds. The reason why she's so dark and closed in is because she's afraid of her powers. That's why she became a hero; to use them in a way that wouldn't hurt others. And also so she could learn to control them and her emotions.

(It's been a while, so I don't remember it all.)

there was also a pretty BADASS scene in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's inside story, where she actually weakened Bowser so Mario could win easily, and.....no really, I'm serious, TELEKINETICALLY sent him flying all the way across the kingdom. No really, Jean Grey-style style, she pointed her finger, he lifted off and she just waved her arm and Bowser went through the roof! I really wonder why she cant pull THAT trick more often.

I can have some sympathy for Jacob, since he seems like at least a decent person (as decent as a written-like-shit series like Twilight can make a character). Not so much for Edward, who's far from saintly in behavior in the books/movies (what's so romantic about a person who watches you sleep, berates you verbally, and treats you like a child?). Bella has far too little of a personality for me to really feel either way about.

He's right as far as the movies go for Mary Jane. But in the comics, she became not only well written, but also was able to handle herself in dangerous situations pretty well. Heck, after a while, she got training from Captain America and even received her own web-shooters! In other words, the movies messed up big time with her.

***** Actually, Robin in the Batman & Robin Adventures, even pre his Night Wing change, had some frigging awesome moments. He guided Batman through a virtual world, basically got Batman through the Riddler's labyrinth of death, rescued Batman when he had his leg injured and was being hunted by Tony Zuko's gang of thugs, helped take out Killer Croc and saved more hostages than I can count. It is true he had to be rescued or backed up by Bat's his share of times, but he was no weak little "rescue me " thing.

Jar jar may be considered annoying, but he hardly had to be rescued all the time. Hell, the first time they were more saving themselves and he just happened to be there and tagged along. and while he may be clumsy and goofy, most of the time, that actually ended up helping everyone. Jar Jar is to star wars what Mihoshi is to Tenchi Muyo.

Jar Jar was PROTECTED by Palpatine from start to finish, there's no way he'd ever need to be rescued-- in fact Palpatine made him look like a hero, so that he'd be trusted enough to stand in for Padme.

defense for robin! kids can make mistakes, robins were always in their teens or younger. But the last robin, Damian Wayne, is SO NOT a dumbass in distress….and he's ten. they just came out with a movie about him ^.^ i was so happy. its called Son of Batman, i highly recommend it, or at least google image him. nightwing is in it too ^^ i also liked the movie Under the Red Hood, which is about jason todd. the robins you see ARE kids, the they grow up to be pretty cool :D

The problem is that Robin is supposed to be this character that is able to take care of himself. I mean, you're being trained by Batman, a guy with mastery in about 100 different martial arts throughout the freaking WORLD, and yet he's easily defeated by multiple different baddies. And it's not Batman's fault at all, Batgirl is under his (hypothetical) wing, and she's competent enough to fight against threats. Sure, she can be a damsel in distress as well, but a majority of the time it's either from the villains using underhanded tactics or one of them launching a surprise attack. Robin, no matter which Robin, was ALWAYS getting caught. Dick Grayson, the one that became Robin, only stopped being a dumbass in distress after he became Nightwing/Joined the Teen Titans (one of those coming after the other depending on which version of the character we're talking about), Tim Drake, the younger Robin, was eventually turned into Joker's heir, acording to Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Jason Todd, the Red Hood, is an asshole in nearly every version, and Damian Wayne is a psycho who, in Injustice, actually KILLS Dick Grayson in the alternate world. So to sum up, each Robin has been either completely incompetent until something about them changes (not always for the better), or is a character you start hating more and more. He deserves his spot on this list.

Umm is he already ready in charge i mean in almost all the Mario games he takes the freaking spotlight. Yes i know he's the title character but it doesn't hurt Nintendo to change it up with who can be the main star of the Mario games at times. Plus you and Nostalgia should know playing Super Mario saving Peach has be almost always been the main goal i mean that's the point of the game. If you don't like this then don't play The Super Mario games or The Legend of Zelda games because you going to be saving princesses in these both these game series.

To add insult to injury when it comes to Jubilee's damsel in distress status, in the opening of the X-Men cartoon, each of the x men get a brief few seconds where they have some sort of action shot; Cyclops is blasting robots, Gambit is fighting helicopters, Rogue throws a Sentinel over her shoulder, etcetera and what is Jubilee's action shot you may ask? Her getting chased by bad guys and getting cornered against a fence, yeah really, all the other X-Men are shown kicking ass whilst she gets shown as a defenceless victim, doesn't that just say it all?

+solo uno I disagree. She's not the only main character that gets annoying. At least the vampires I write only pretend to be nice when they want something. They're despicable and they know it. Mindset of one vampire I wrote: "I seduce girls so that once I'm finished, they've forgotten what I am and I can take their blood. I do what I have to do, and they'll never see me again." Mindset of human girl who attempts resistance and ends up catching his interests: "That creep! I'm pretty sure he used some freaky vampire thing on me. Why won't he leave me alone?" See any difference compared with what Twilight gave us? But again, Bella would not top all hall of shame character lists, because I still think she's not the worst character in the movies/books.

I read an interesting theory that said that Dr. Claw was the original Inspector Gadget and is believed to have died in horrible accident. He survived, but was left disfigured and insane. In her grief, Penny creates a flawed copy to solve crimes the way her real uncle used to do. That's the explanation for why Dr. Claw never hurts her. Even crime lords appreciate family.

nostalgia critic's right - if bella were secretly some sociopathic manipulative mastermind who utilized her influence on this supernatural world once she realized she had that power, how fucking wild would that be? but she's not so her character is painfully stupid.

To be fair, Robin is pretty badass in young justice. His costume actually looks cool while still being functional, he's actually the one who end up saving the super powered members of the team in a few episodes (ignoring the almost drowning part) he's got a lot of good lines, can clearly handle himself and he's supposed to have been doing all this since he was 9!

I love how Maid Marrion in Prince of Thieves is kicking Robin Hoods ass all over the place in the begining yet couldn't fight a bit when the Sheriff was trying to rape her at the end??? WTF???

Abby Sith I find her neither normal or relatable. I don't think a normal person would associate with a vampire if they were so squeamish they couldn't stand even the sight of their own blood. She comes across as unstable to me.

Like I said in my comment, I don't really see why she's vehemently hated, but it's not because I think she's a good character (there are plenty of much better -written female literary characters than Bella), but because she's way too bland to really feel either way about. Also, while Jacob is a decent character (considering what utter shit both the movie and the book series are), I find it hard to sympathize with Edward, who isn't exactly saintly in behavior at all (seriously, what's so romantic about some psycho who watches you while you sleep and treats you like a child?).

Bella was an annoyance yes. Another book related annoyance in a story about vampires is Zoey Redbird from the house of the night series. Dear god this bitch deserved a good punching. The concept of the story could have been interesting if only the lead heroine wasn't such a despicable character.

I also enjoyed Robin in "The Batman." From his very first appearance in costume and several other times in the story, He's saving Batman, or otherwise keeping the story moving while Batman is busy. I don't remember him getting captured much at all (okay, when Black Mask's goons finally get to Robin and Batgirl in that one episode, still, they had been under siege all night and held out long enough....).

Given the Nostalgia Critic's recent review of "Jupiter Ascending", I'm surprised that he didn't update the list to include Jupiter Jones. I mean during his review of "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", he updated the list and swapped Willie and Jubilee. Putting Willie at number 5 and acknowledging that Jubilee at least TRIES.

I completely agree with everything you said about Bella. I cannot agree with saying that we should pray for Edward and Jacob though. Edward: a crazy stalker. Jacob: comes from an inescapable society that says that domestic abuse is ok as long as your man is a supernatural being that can never control his anger and falls in love with a God dang baby. Bella may be the biggest problem in the series, but that doesn't mean she's the only problem. There are far worse.

robin is way much better in teen titans

The only time Robin was done right was in teen titans and Young justice

It's probably no coincidence that both times occur when Robin is a main protagonist in equal standing with the rest. Like all sidekicks Robin is made stupid, ineffectual, and kidnapped all the time just to make Batman look good.

Robin (Jason Todd) was also badass in Batman: Under the red hood. But, he does take on another mantle so I'm not sure that counts....

Bella is so annoying that enough cannot be expressed in words as to how she rubs me in the wrong way, I was going through a breakup myself when the 2nd Twilight movie came out, so I could identify with her anguish a bit. But when she straight up threw herself off a cliff just to see her bf one more time, it jerked me into action to get out of my misery because it honestly terrified me into believing that I was becoming overly dependent on someone which is the worst thing ever!

I also hated Jar Jar until I found that theory that he supposed to be the main villain of the trilogy (but sw fans hated him so much that lucas had to rewrite the story) and it all suddenly start to make sense! why he plays so stupid, how he became general of army and then get place in the government, why he always near Palpatine and many other detales. (sory for my eng)

Nostalgia Critic, watch Young Justice if you want a badass Robbin.

SuperGhostbuster I don't hate the original Teen Titans, but I just can't take it very seriously, I think it might mostly be the japanese-style animation, it has it's moments I can take seriously and it is enjoyable, but over-all I'd say Young Justice is a better choice if you want a serious route.

Bruno Mendes Red Hood was gonna be in season 3 of Young Justice but they fucking cancelled it for fucking Teen Titans Go.

Short Round was awesome. My favourite Indiana Jones character other than Henry Jones Sr. and of course the man himself.

I feel like Elena Gilbert should be on this list too. I mean, she gets rescued all the time. There are so many people after her and even though she can take care of herself, she constantly gets rescued. She also screws around with the Salvatore brothers and all her friends' lives are endangered because of her.

#10, I have no problem with Short-round, but yeah Willie was a nothing but a shrill annoyance for the entire movie. #7, Think about it, Gadget has a helicopter where is brain should be, so its not to surprising he's a bit dim. #4, Scooby Doo had already "Jumped the Shark" way before they tried to revive the series with adding this annoyance. #3, should be #1 PERIOD, #2 is kind of pointless, its a stupid video game, with one dimensional characters, get over it. #1, yeah I can see that but god-dam its a close one with Jar-Jar. Personally as much as I would like to dismember her sparkly vampire body with a katana I still would rather like to feed Jar Jar feet first into a large slowly rotating meat grinding machine.

***** Yeah I'm not trying to diss the game but this rant is like complaining that the gorilla in Donkey Kong is only one dimensional and has no depth as a character, well no kidding, its a VIDEO GAME, and that's where I do not get this guys rant. Its like he somehow was expecting a Steel Magnolias Julia Roberts performance or for her to turn into a Supergirl version of Princess Peach...in a VIDEO GAME !?!? I mean really, he should find something a bit more relevant to gripe about. Like the fact that right next to Lois Lane should be Jimmy Olsen, who was always getting his little bitch ass saved by Superman.

KlunkerRider Yeah okay you got a point there are far more useless idiots who are get their asses in trouble in fiction that are worse then just one game character.

People give princess peach way too little credit. Yes she's always captured in the platforming games but she actually does things to help mario along the way especially in the RPGs. In the paper mario series, she helps mario get intel from bowser despite being captured, the second installment was the same and she was playable in the third one. But the fourth one, damsel in distress syndrome. In the mario and luigi series, she wasn't really captured although there was part in the game when she was in distress and in the second series she managed to trap the final boss with her powers before being captured herself. Not to mention in Mario RPG when she was a valuable player.

Inspector Gadget: "I'm always on duty!" Me: "...Latrine duty."

Hey, the Robin as portrayed in the Teen Titans cartoon kicked ass.

"He looks like a fucking bullseye!" Why do I feel like that was intentional on Batman's part?

Whoever told Doug that Mary Jane gets kidnapped a lot in the comics was full of it.

The Princess and the Goblin was written with a badass heroine but in the animated version she's almost completely helpless. When she rescues her friend she bitches and complains and cries the whole time.

Eh, while i agree Sakura is in no way a good character and can't do things herself, she actually doesn't need that much rescuing, and has on occasion been usefull. Mostly as a healer in the background or as excuse to unwound other, better characters, but still not bad enough on this front to make this list. As far as bad female characters go though, definately.

To be fair, if not for Jar Jar then the incredibly intelligent and manipulative Palpatine would have found SOMEONE to make the senate proposal.

And on the trend of showing examples of certain characters done right: Mary Jane is both proactive and interesting in the Insomniac game, even she does get captured by the bad guys she actually uses the situation to not only save herself but do something in general such as the sequence where you defuse the bomb

I feel like NC missed the point of Inspector Gadget- he was an idiot because that's where all the comedy came from. Penny as the gadget person would've been cool, but unless it was like One Punch Man where all the episodes are like three-minute skits where she destroys everything, it wouldn't be very good comedically.
