    I was excited to see this movie when I was a little kid. The day it came out, my dad took me to the theatre, and I couldn't even make it through the first scene. After Loki turned into that green mask thing I got scared and asked my dad to take me out of the theatre and we never saw the rest of the movie.

    MultiKnight13 Man, I was way too old when this came out, so I only saw part of this years later, but as someone who loved the Mask as my favorite Jim Carrey movie growing up, this kind of scared me. The NC review solidified that one.

    I think a Mask movie could work if they did it like that episode of "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" where they had that magic skull that granted wishes, and it's being passed from character to character to character. And all these stories connect in some way, but they're told in a mixed order like in "Pulp Fiction" or "Shorts".

    The funny thing is that the original Mask comics were incredibly dark with a twisted sense of humour which neither of the movies did. Sure the first film played up the goofy side of the mask and was a unique take on the character and still made references to some of the jokes from the comic (The Balloon Tommy Gun is from the comics) but Son of the mask didn't really do anything special in comparison to the comics or the first film and was just this bastardised mess. I genuinely would like to see a more accurate version of the Mask comic style used in another movie that still maintains the twisted sense of humour but focuses more on what the comic did with having each person who wore the mask be driven closer and closer to just being a violent insane lunatic no matter how good a person they may be without wearing it.

    I know that sounds cliché, but we need a Mask movie based on the comic. I mean, i love the first movie, i think it´s great by their own, but when i read the comic i was amazed how brutal it was, and for the times that run, a project like this would not be so much trouble.

    I love this series of vlogs! I could listen to Doug and Rob talk about movies all day :) A few suggestions for future Real Thoughts: - The Jurassic Park trilogy. The first three movies all made it into NC episodes, and with the fourth coming out now, I'd love to see you guys reflect on the series as a whole and how it de-evolved so quickly into junk. - Any of the '90s Don Bluth movies (Rock-A-Doodle/A Troll in Central Park/The Pebble and the Penguin). You guys are such huge Don Bluth fans, I'd love to know what you really thought of this shit. - Inspector Gadget. Probably one of the most aggressively annoying movies ever made, and cross-referenced with Doug's utter loathing of Matthew Broderick's acting, I bet this would be a good one. - Doug's 1st Movie. Did this show really get under your skin as much as you say, or did you play that up for the NC? - Casper. How did a movie penned by Animaniacs writers turn out so lame?

    I bet the midnight release that previewed son of the mask was return of the king. Because although the movie was released in 2005, the teaser ends by saying coming 2004 so that would leave me to believe that the teaser was released in 2003. Which would be the same year that return of the king came out.

    Its really interesting after seeing Jamie Kennedy's Son of the Mask the Untold Story i can see the literal damage this made because of corporate meddling. Thing is most of the "zanny" and over the top cartoony moments were put in last moment because the CEO of New Line Cinema "didnt laughed" at all when the first draft of the movie was showed to him, to quote Jaime "I was told that him was with a very stern and serious face and only said "....thanks" and walked away without saying anything, and alter on i was said to "cut the movie off, add more zanny, jokes, and special effects because you dont have more money to re-shoot scenes" Supposedly the first few drafts of the movie were more "grand and epic" had like a more slow burn feeling and lasted 2 hours, where it was supposed to have Jamie only being The Mask at the very end and the main protagonists of the film could had been only the kid, the dog and Loki, supposedly Jaime said that it was meant to be a young dad trying to raise a kid that has superpowers, and he could start to see the kid's powers slowly until it got bigger than life where Loki could try to get both the Mask and the Kid back and the dad had to fight against Loki to have his son back. He even talked with Jim Carrey first asking if it was ok if he made a sequel to The Mask and Jim told him to "make it his own" he even had his doubts if he could make such big movie because it was such big shoes to fill in. The final product is a mess, im not going to give any excuses to that, but its really telling how some "small changes" that a production company think it wont impact on the franchise or success of the new movie to how people think this movie was just a bad thing from the get go, when in actuality it was more of a last minute decition to cut like 38 mins of the movie from it and add weird CGI to make it "zanny"

    I was so hyped for this movie as a kid (I was 12) . My favorite movie was finally getting a sequel! I begged my dad to take me to see the movie, and h reluctantly agreed. 15 minutes into the movie, I realized that this movie was going to be a pile of garbage, and turned to my dad to ask him to get a refund and drive us home. He fell asleep. I was trapped. The remaining 80 minutes was a bizarre exercise in 12 year old buyers remorse, crushed dreams and expectations, and the first time I truly realized the overwhelming flaws of creating a film through Hollywood Exec decision making.

    mauryelhombremono Movies like those made me lose hope on the Academy, they are turning down genuinely good movies that are loved in favor of these "based on real events" that play with their (not OURS) heartstrings. It is taking me so long to watch Boyhood, because every 10 minutes is hard to see through, heck the exposition-overload in Jupiter Ascending is more interesting than that movie and I watched it from beginning to end, with Boyhood I barely reached the 40 minute-mark and haven't felt anything of the "powerful and moving" story they promised.

    Igorcastrochucre well i kinda lost the hope in the academy a long time ago. still, the way they choose movie always bothered me (even if they used to choose very well) i don't think voting is the best way, but a debate with arguments. still, if you know about cinema, and want to get WAY angrier, just watch Eight and a Half from Federico Fellini and then watch the comments from people, it was that film that changed my way to watch movies. i'm not kidding, i never in my life felt actually worried (like incredibly worried) about people's perception of what good cinema is, until i saw Eight and a Half (even if it's not as bad as Boyhood, and some scenes are amazing apart from the film), now everytime i watch a very good movie, i have to try not to get angry thinking about how such terrible films are getting more attention and praising. and when i watch a similar film, i instantly get angry because it remembers me of the people who is gonna suck it's balls, only because it looks "intelligent" and talk nicely to the ones who don't want to "follow the rules".

    Jamie Kennedy portrayed on of the best characters from the Scream franchise (if not arguably the best character). I don't know if that was a happy coincidence, or he just went on and deliberately ruined his career. Oddly enough, and for reasons I cannot understand, he still has a place in heart.

  • @docdave15
    @docdave159 жыл бұрын

    I've actually seen the documentary 'Heckler' that Kennedy did and at several points they do interviews with film producers and directors (for the record: the ones they got were responsible for films like Scary Movie 5) and a common response was, "Well, what do film critics know about making movies? They've never made a movie, so what do they know?" I saw the perfect response for this in the comment section of one of the KZread uploads. It was something like this: "I've also never built a house before, but that won't stop me from pointing out a poorly constructed one."

    I actually watched this movie a lot as a kid. We didn't have cable at the time, so all we had were DVDs, very few of which were kids films. I don't know why, but I never thought the imagery was creepy or disturbing! Hell, I either didn't bat an eye at it, or I straight up laughed. I remember being more or less indifferent towards most of it, but I would always lose my shit with laughter whenever the dog had the mask (Rob, 10 minutes of just that Dog would be very much appreciated. You are not alone). To this day I still can't find myself actually being scared or disturbed by the imagery, though that's probably because seeing this movie as a 7 year old and not batting an eye is a sure sign that you are gonna be fucked up in the head later in life XD

    Maybe. Son of the Mask, though, was a whole lot of NONSENSE where Alice in Wonderland is SUPPOSED to be NONSENSE and became too involved in some sort of uprising against the Red Queen. Hollywood NEEDS to leave well enough alone. On the up-side, Rob and Doug get along better than my brother and I would.

    Why it's called Son of The Mask when the film has nothing to do with Stanley Ipkiss and the baby isn't even his son is beyond me. And the conflict between Odin and Loki makes it look like a bad Thor film without Thor.

    20:20, Remember, there was an old ad in Nintendo Power for The Mask 2 ten years before Son of the Mask. James Rolfe mentioned it in an AVGN episode. So there was talks for a long time about The Mask 2 but like so many other horrible movies, it got chewed up and spit out and wallowed around for so long that there was nothing good left.
