Norse Werewolves, Ulfheðnar and Wolf-Men from Scandinavian Folklore Explained

In this video we explore werewolves in Nordic & Scandinavian folklore and myths, all the way from the wolf berserkers known as Ulfhednar (Ulfheðnar), wolf shapeshifters in Norse mythology, Signe & Sigmund from the Völsunga saga, to later Christianized tales and folk beliefs surrounding werewolves.

I didn’t j ow that WereBears were from actual mythology. I thought they originated in Tolkien’s writings ...! I look forward to learning more about them ! Werewolf stories of all kind have always fascinated ( and scared) me ...! These stories were great ! Thanks Anna !

Thank you!! As far as I'm aware he drew inspiration from the Norse berserkers. "Berserker" is thought to mean something along the lines of "bear-skin" or "bear-shirt" which came from the pelts they wore/whatever rituals were undergone before battle :)

Yeah, Tolkien got everything from mythology and made it new. Except for Hobbits. I think he created them.

Sounds like a 50-50 likelihood of either a werewolf curse or just getting old. I think I would take the former 😂

I’m a little confused. Are ulfhednars like werewolves? They weren’t human right? Kind of like wolf-demons?
