I'm still working on getting into norse paganism. I obviously haven't had a lot of time with college and work, but even just putting on the audiobooks for the stories and the eddas has helped me get started. I'll hopefully be able to do more once I've graduated in a couple weeks!

Thank you for this video!!! Being VERY NEW to Norse Magic, in Oklahoma, USA (part of the “Bible Belt” of America) I need more more information and guidance. I have done a lot of research on the history of Scandinavia, but I need the actual steps and process of Norse Paganism and Folklore Magic and Ritual “How-to.” More videos such as this would be so helpful to us “newbies.”

Fun fact: I basically put myself into seminary and studied the Bible in their original languages and extra-biblical books for years. Yahweh does repeatedly state that there are indeed other gods. A quick example is the first commandment talking about “strange gods”. Anyway, I eventually became disgusted with Judaism and Christianity and all the BS that goes with it. I found the Abrahamic religions to be very violent and ineffective. Look at what is happening in Israel right now for a great example of how they love to wage war and kill in Yahweh’s/Allah’s name. I originally gravitated towards Norse Paganism but didn’t get very far. Now, after about a year of atheism, I am coming back to where my heart originally led me. Your video has been very helpful. Thank you. 😊

I really like your vibe! I have considered myself Pagan for quite a while now...maybe 4-5 years, but I haven't had any sort of actual path with any concept of structure. I know I have a lot of German in me and also some Irish, so Celtic and Norse Paganism is definitely an area of interest to me. I really want to dive into those paths and your video feels very calming and reassuring. I tend to get super intense when I want to research something new and I overwhelm myself because I get really obsessive but then it can almost paralyze me mentally, resulting in very little being accomplished... 😅 I will definitely be looking into some of the books you recommended. Thank you for sharing!

I love your basic outline to start. For me I was already practicing land white worship before I realized it. Though originally through the lens of "Thanking God's Hand" in making the world but I believed it to be a continuation through ancesstors and spirits to mold the world. While doing research and building a relationship with the God's, find a community. Norse Pagans relied on kinship and familiar groups to survive. That is in my opinion also an important part of Modern Paganism.

❤ Maybe this will appeal to someone reading the comments? I looked at what I like, what I'm drawn towards and inspired by. I spent time watching videos on the Norse pantheon of deities, as well as those of other cultures, and over time I whittled down the Gods (not just Norse, but also Hellenic, Egyptian, Hindu, Sumerian etc) by their best-known traits and animal associations (as I've been having flashes of certain creatures in my mind during certain activities), which I took as a sign on where to focus my research. The deities I worked my way down to had many overlaps, including their companion or animal associations as well as similarities mostly aligned with my love of learning, divination, wisdom, the arts, protection, and selflessness. I had over a dozen candidates at this point, which is far too much for anyone to properly dedicate adequate time to - especially when you're just starting out! So from there, I Googled and researched some more, learning about their basic mythos' and considered which ones I subjectively found more charismatic or appealing. As such, I currently focus on a trinity of Gods from 3 different cultures who are all (at least partly) related to my main interests. As my practice expands, perhaps so to will my personal pantheon? But for now, a trinity is more than enough to fill up my time in devotion, as well as my shelves with books (my poor bank account is in need of a break). As I slowly pick and choose, I will familiarize myself with their plant allies, favourite offerings, their teachings and their other properties, and I'll naturally be inclined to learn about other deities with similar attributes. So basically go with what interests you most! If you like a certain animal, activity, or subject then lean into it. The more you learn, the more you might find yourself drifting to just 1 or 2 deities. As your interests change, maybe so too will your patron deity or your practice. The road of life is all about taking time to explore the little side paths along the way. The faster you race towards the finish line, the more you miss. Take the winding and crooked path. Stroll don't sprint. Pick one of every flower and learn EVERYTHING you can about it, journal your findings, and cherish every moment. You have but one life in this body and you should love every breath and heartbeat that it gives you. You are a beautiful, unique, ever-changing mass of energy. You are a completely different person than you were seven years ago, and in seven years all that you are now will have returned to the Earth. So too should be your mindset about your practice

This actually calmed me down when it comes to diving into Norse pagan. Ive been practicing/researching for over 2 years, and I realized the Greek path wasn’t/isn’t for me other than the goddess Athena for now. I’ve been hesitant to start with Norse pagan because of how much time and money I invested in the Greek mythology/path I’m scared Norse pagan isn’t calling to me. I will say my dreams/answers have been answered for a couple of days now. And me seeing this video is probably another hint that this is where I need to go. What book recommendations do you recommend? I’ve been shuffling what books I want to have first before I start going crazy with research😅

I think when it comes to mythology and one isn’t used to reading old texts I would recommend Neil Gaimans Norse Mythology. Just be aware that he has definitely filled in some gaps and invented some stuff. But it’s still all in all pretty close to the Eddas. And when it comes to Norse paganism I like The Way of Fire and Ice by Ryan smith because it’s specifically about inclusive Norse paganism ☺️

I would advise you to start with the rune poems first! It can be really confusing starting with rune books because every single one interprets the runes differently. Thank you so much for making this kind of videos. I, in the past, genuinely wanted to become a Norse Pagan but I encountered people from said religion telling me I couldn't since I'm not North European and don't have any ties to them. At the time it was awfully discouraging; still is a bit. Although now I limit myself to simply learn about other cultures and religions as an Agnostic, I'm glad you're a positive source and guidance. 🤍

That kind of discouragement usually stems from white supremacy and neo-naxism. When someone starts saying you should stick to your own culture like that (especially when its a European-based one), it's a dogwhistle for Volkish and racist nonsense. If the Norse gods call to you, they call to you. Don't be afraid to answer them.

@@J_N1986 Thank you very much for your kind words. I've been ignoring this growing desire to get closer and worship the Norse deities mostly because when I started to search and learn more about them I was struggling with mental health (still am, unfortunately), and the first approach I had was negative thanks to certain people, I've been unable to bring myself up and try to get in touch with Norse Paganism. Hopefully, once this mental block and bitter experience pass I'll be able to try again.

  • @J_N1986

@@miecomari I can see how difficult that might be. Always take care of your mental health no matter what, but just know that there are plenty of us Norse pagans who will welcome you and help you however we can. I honestly believe there are more inclusive Norse pagans than not, it's just that the Volkish often (and unfortunately) have more resources to promote themselves. Even with European ancestry, heathen spaces can feel unwelcoming and scary to me because I abhor the anti-LGBT+ overtones (I'm bisexual) that can come with them sometimes. But as I said, the Norse gods call who they call and if you feel their pull, then I think that means they're saying you're welcome with them. Much luck on your journey. ❤️

Its so interesting. I’ve never felt a real connection to any religion really and lately it’s kind of been bothering me because I know I do believe in something but I don’t know what that is, like I’m 100% sure I’m not an atheist but Christianity and other religions I’ve learned about never really made sense to me. So I decided to write down “my own religion”, like if I could create my own what would it be like, and the more I’m researching Asatron the more I realize that’s basically exactly what I wrote down (I’ve learned about the gods in school and I’ve always found them interesting, I’m from Sweden, but I didn’t know they worshiped all there mythical beings as well, which is what I’ve always felt drawn to). Even the names I gave the things are similar. I’ve also always loved nature and felt a special connection to animals and nature in general. It honestly feels like a perfect fit
