Nonduality: Why the World's Oldest Pointer Doesn't Work

What is the world's oldest nondual pointer? If it's not, "You are not the body," then I'd be surprised. So why doesn't it work? This video looks at an old pointer in a whole new way.
Come follow us on Instagram. It's the home of lots of quick "poppers". / awakeningclaritynow
This video is one of over 200 that deal with The Living Method's of Spiritual Awakening's pathless path to nondual awakening, clearing up in nondual post-awakening, and abiding in/as Nonduality.

Nonduality is real freedom and totally satisfying. Went from being suicidal to enjoying life as it is. Im already dead. I really do not exist anyway. It feels like I could sit on a chair for days on end without moving and without feeling bored. Im already complete. There is no search. You are already it. There is almost no thoughts at all in the head anymore. Sometimes it feels like im about to leave the body. Its almost like im in deep sleep while wide awake.

To Makael: Sounds like you've had an authentic experience, but that cloudiness is now closing in around it, diminishing the aperture. It was great, I am sure, but don't rest here. It's the death of clearing if you do. To vvv2k12: "Who's asking this?" That's the only question that matters.

"Yesterday, upon the stair, I met a man who wasn't there! He wasn't there again today, Oh how I wish he'd go away!" When I came home last night at three, The man was waiting there for me But when I looked around the hall, I couldn't see him there at all! Go away, go away, don't you come back any more! Go away, go away, and please don't slam the door... Last night I saw upon the stair, A little man who wasn't there, He wasn't there again today Oh, how I wish he'd go away...

It’s a bit like with the computer video game “Tomb Raider” The main character in the game is “Lara Croft” and the whole game seems to be centred around her. You have to push buttons and move levers to get her to walk, run and jump in a virtual landscape on the screen .With deeper involvement in the game ,the real player can become very identified with Lara trying to prevent her getting hurt or eaten by monsters even though it’s just a game the player suspends disbelief to get drawn into the adventure. Once this happens the screen disappears and it gets very immersive. The same way we seem to dissolve into a good movie.

Great reflections, Fred, spot on for my explorations. Who really knows, but body identification seems a more primal identification than the psychological/Wesley character. Without the label body, or a sense there is a Wesley in here, it is like raw energy, like star clusters hanging in space.

I get such a giggle out of "my(lol!) pointer collection"! The pointer that pointers don't/can't make Awakeness wake up is a great one ("make" being the point-away from that hides the hide-and-seek that Awakeness has had to "want'" to play). Bodies can seem to be the special conundrum - because THEY use iphones,. And so iphones "just being a tool" gets hung-up on (lol) because i/body first "knows" it is the one talking on the iphone in order to understand the pointer. I could go on and on but the pointers just make a circle, which I loved the "drawing" out that your video did (time making circles - there I got that ponter in)!

There is only That, which is This, therefore I am That/This. BUT, speaking as a "person" for a moment, what helped "me" tremendously was the mantra Sat-Chit-Ananda. I heard Swami Sarvapriyananda say that when he talks about this mantra, he can always feel that the crowd is with him on the SAT and the CHIT but feel that perhaps ANANDA is being "smuggled in". Point is, I found this to be personally true. Pure Being? Got it! Pure Consciousness? Got it! But Pure BLISS? I couldn't FEEL the Bliss part. Then I realized that I could just replace ANANDA with LOVE and it all clicked. Being-Consciousness-Love. There is only Being which IS Consciousness which IS Love. Love was the "final key" for the "me" that doesn't really exist but appears in the play.

  • @FredDavisNonduality

    @FredDavisNonduality

I used Sat Chit Ananda for a good while. I think it's also fine to use it English - Being-Consciousness-Bliss. As I'm sure you know, the "bliss" part will generally be misinterpreted. I like your Being-Consciousness-Love. Love is closer to what those who came before us really meant. Bliss is generally thought to mean some sort of personal high, or set of sensations. But of course know that there is nothing personal going on. :-)

Interesting pointer. I will comment on "I am not the body" before I watch the video. And then compare it to what Fred said. My take is that "I am not the body" is a duality statement! Because saying "NOT this" about anything is a duality split. The correct nondual perspective is: "I am not ONLY the body". EDIT: Ouch. Fred had a different explanation, but it may be the same in essence. The ego is a concept and the body is a pattern of information one with, not separate from, all of existence/information in the present moment.

"There's no 'I' here to discover the mystery." -Fred Davis Notice how the mind can both agree with this pointer and then completely run the red light and keep on trying to figure "this" out. What's the alternative? Stop. Stop and notice how the mind tries to fill in the void left by Fred's pointer. The emptiness is the Truth. The trying to fill it in is the mind. Stay as the naked Truth and see what happens...

Hello Fred, I have just one question for you, though I need to preface the question by briefly sketching my situation: if someone asked me if I was awake, I'd say ,"Yes, but I'm drowsy and subject to fits of narcolepsy." When stress is low in my life and I'm relaxed, the sense of a seperate self becomes very thin, almost melts away, the sense of being a doer fades as everything simply happens and it begins to feel as if my existence is a pervading continuum having little relation to the body. But when stress is high - and there are many triggers that affect this body-mind unit - then the mind can go into frantic activity for long periods of time. Even then, the sense of witnessing doesn't completely fade though the distress can be high. So all that being said... my question: if I was to read (or better to say, immerse myself in) just ONE book of yours, which book should it be? (I don't think you and I will be talking any time soon because my income's too low, though I want you to know I'm just fine with the way you do things, no complaints at all. But while I may not be able to afford sessions, I CAN afford a book.) Thank you, Fred, for the satsangs. You are indeed extraordiarily clear in the way you express ideas. You've cleared a lot up for me.

There might have been an spiritual experience over there, but the one who wrote and asked this question categorically did not have an awakening. I'm sure of it, because there's no one there beyond the protective-false-thought, "I'm a person and I think this person had an awakening today."

All pointers are good. It requires what is called “adhikaara” or “qualification” on part of the ‘seeker’ in the Vedantic tradition. What this qualification is, is really a mind relatively quietened of its chatter. The turbulent and murky waters don’t reveal the river bed. When the water is clear and flowing gently, the riverbed is clearly visible. When the mind is tranquil, the pointers alone are sufficient. It takes a bit of work to make the mind tranquil though :)

Pointers don't work if they are only picked up by the mind. Then they just disappear in a black hole. But sometimes they resonate/reflect with the Self and then something could happen. We can't wake up the mind because it doesn't really exist. But the Self can become awake of itself.

Nice, Fred. And even this video is much like that dream last night when I had adventures and then wake to find out that I was dreaming. Well, in truth, this 'waking' too is the dream of 'me'. But wait, now who dreams this one? What pointer points at this question if the most revered pointer is not actually the best one in the first place? Or maybe then, hmmmmm, what is Experience? Who/what has such a thing as experience - dream or not? Including the experience of feeling, seeing and smelling my thumb, and my appendectomy and what happened when I stepped in front of that bus and what I think of this video? Well it is the year 2020 ( CE naturally ) and few will go there. Actually NO-ONE can go there - never has. Yet isn't Experience all that I actually have? Seriously? Who knows that? Who knows this knowing? Dare I say it? Well actually I don't know. I only just am. Oh and well, yes, the world's oldest pointer actually does work. It works the way any words or concepts work inside this recognition of what experience is. It points away from what is not. That is all that is needed. And that is all we got. The pull from truth of what I already am takes care of the rest regardless of what is said from here - wordlessly - pointlessly.

I mean if you were to ask a random person on the street if they think they are their body, I suspect most would say that they are not. Most would say they are the voice in their heads and that "they" or their "I' is located behind their eyes. Also, the other pointer, I am not my thoughts. I don't think most people think that either.
