    Both versions of Del Toro color & b/w are ese catching and astonishing. Some say that this is his first non monster movie, that theres only freak show and isnt enough, however i believe he made a portray of the ugliest and most terrifying of all monsters: The human kind.

    @@mrhoapro1 Hmm. I actually counted it. In Guillermo Del Toro's movies (besides Nightmare Alley) the villain is human in Cronos (Angel and Dieter de la Guardia), Devil's Backbone (Jacinto), Crimson Peak (Lucille and Thomas Sharpe), and The Shape of Water (Richard Strickland) for a total of 4. The villain is a monster or supernatural being in Mimic (The Judas Breed), Blade 2 (Jared Nomak and the Reaper Strain as well as Daminskinos), Hellboy (Rasputin and Kroenen while once human were definitely beyond human during the course of the film) Hellboy 2 (Prince Nuada), and Pacific Rim (The Kaiju) for a total of 5. Pan's Labyrinth arguably has both human and supernatural villains (The Pale Man and Captain Vidal) so you could arguably put it in either category though it probably belongs in human villain. I hesitate to put it there just because the Pale Man sequence is probably what that movie is best remembered for.

    I think Señor del Toro did an amazing job capturing the vibe of the original. I’ve always been a great admirer of his work and any project he’s involved with. I appreciate his mind as I agree with his take on the monsters being beautiful…and humans, UGLY humans portrayed as the horrible monsters they are.

    spoiler''''''''' Darker one to me was the 2021 version (some what a masterpiece of a film, if not a masterpiece), they just lead up to the geek ending better, by describing how to create one better, and seeing it eating chickens and dying, and so you really get how far you would have to fall to become one..

    The 1947 film had a big disadvantage (as did all US films between 1934-1968). The production had to abide by and pass the the Hays Production Code, or else it could not be released.

  • @bobbyjosson4663

    @bobbyjosson4663

    Жыл бұрын

    @@pintorpi333 Not really. The code spoiled many films because some themes couldn't be handled or were traversed. But more great films were made during that period and directors had to be really smart. Films made after 1968 have a great disadvantage, they show and titillate everything, from close-ups of scalping, hard core sexual depravity (including a woman's face being bitten into and torn), close-ups of torture scenes and levels of depravity, vile sickness and evil that made whole swathes of the audience stay at home. Which explains why so many films are aimed at teens.

    As open minded as I tried to be for the remake, I ended up really hating it. Probably didn’t help that I saw the 1947 days before on TCM'S Noir Alley. Although the cinematography of DT captured the era beautifully with vintage buildings of Buffalo, those can be seen in trailers and KZread snippets.

    I saw all three versions (Ty Power, GDT color and GDT B&W). The original is definitely the best, but Del Toro's version is still good although it should really only be seen in B&W. It gets pretty close to the old Noir feel, minus the constant camera movement that everyone seems obsessed with. Ty Power is a smarter, more conniving Stanton while Bradley Cooper's version is more like a simple crook who lucked out. I recommend watching both at least once. The remake does not disrespect the classic one bit.
