I'm old, and I've watched literally thousands of movies in my life. But Nightmare Alley remains, to this day, my second-favourite film of all time. An unquestionable masterpiece.

@@NoirFan77 Believe it or not, my absolute favourite film is Aqurre: The Wrath of God. Quite a change of pace from Nigtmare Alley.

@@paulguimond7548 I like Aguirre very much. I've admired and enjoyed Herzog for decades. And Kinski as well. I've got all 5 of their collaborations (not counting 'My Best Fiend') and have trouble picking my favorite. But Aguirre and Fitzcarraldo are first rank. My favorite film of any genre is 'Force of Evil (1948)'.

Helen Walker who plays the psychiatrist stole this movie. She was on the verge of major stardom until tragedy came into her life. Everyone should read her bio on IMBd. Very sad.

Any suggestions for noir that veers into darker territory like this? Beyond just private eyes and criminals vs cops and such, but more along the lines of psychopaths like in Angel Face, Conflict, The Two Mrs. Carrolls , High Wall, and The Spiral Staircase? Thanks

Night of the Hunter and (for terrorising oneself) the Lost Weekend - alcohol also demonic there.

@@moonriverdiver Night of the Hunter, yes, but Lost Weekend is a little boring and not pure cinema (it is simply about the disease of alcoholism). There's nothing more perfect than Angel Face. With all due respect to Hitch, that f*** film is greater than all of his films put together

I have seen all those films and your Muller never brings anything else new. If you don't provide me with other abscure b-movies, preferably from the 30s and 40s, I stop watching movies, cuz almost every thriller I try to watch from the 50s is a boring disappointment (the atmosphere is like a f**** 50s TV show with no golden age glamor nor teeth)
