It’s also because Pete is angry that Ariana grande said that to the world. And he feels like she screwed him because according to him, she is tiny and everything is big to her, so he is setting him up for failure with any future partner. So he likes to set the record straight and take control of the narrative of his penis. This is from one of his stand ups.

can't say i thought the sketch was all that great. to me it seemed a little excessive & almost like "well, we do one of these NYC musical skits every time Mulaney's here, so let's just go overboard with it." i'd say the Bodega Cat & Airport Sushi skits were funnier & the Diner Lobster is an absolute classic(it's really hard to recreate that type of random success). And i really don't see why they felt this sketch deserved to go on for over 8 minutes. - sorry, just my opinion. But i do agree that Rudolph's statue of liberty sequence was the highlight. i actually found some of the things she said to be a little bittersweet: the hookers in times square, cbgb's, warhol... NYC is a completely sterilized experience now compared to what it was like in a few decades ago.

@@canaisyoung3601 He was laughing because Beck messed up his line - you can see John is also laughing. Beck is a seasoned performer, though, and he just powered through, so it was hard to tell that he messed up.

These keep getting better. The production value goes up every time and these people prove how creative and talented they are. Mulaney can’t sing or dance but loves musicals. So it’s hilarious to see him pull these off so well. I loved this.

If it makes you feel any better, I just read a story in my local paper about the 1918 pandemic. They collected all the articles written about it at the time, and it is eerily similar to news coverage now. The limits and upsets to daily life nearly identical. New York survived that nightmare, it will survive this one! Hang in there, vote, and do what you can! Much love from out west!

Glad they chose "I'm Still Here," a real classic.

It's not the same without Cecily. In the other three she laid down some Strong vocals. I really missed her in this one.

@@benjaminwright5936 I did some research and apparently she's busy filming a musical comedy series for Apple TV+. Cecily is supported by an all star cast featuring the talents of Keegan-Michael Key, Alan Cummings, Ann Harada, Fred Armisen, Kristen Chenoweth, Jaime Camil, Jane Krakowski, and Dove Cameron. And while I'm happy that she has a new project that will showcase her amazing voice and comedic talent. It also unfortunately means she will continue to be absent from SNL until her schedule clears up.

Gotta a little weepy

For whatever reason, I haven't seen any of the Mulaney eps other than this one. And I heard about Lobster Diner, but didn't know it was a musical, or that they kept doing it every time Mulaney came back. Gave me an excuse to revisit all the Mulaney Musicals; wish I saw them sooner :D. And I enjoy how they keep recasting Redd & Davidson in the sketches as the two customers.

@@albicelestezzz No, he played it in a high school production. It's on his Wikipedia (I just looked it up) but I'm not sure how someone would just know that and relate it to an SNL skit where he played a spoof of Fiddler on the Roof

Man that “I’m still here” number is uplifting

When they announced John Mulaney was hosting I literally said, “YAY, this means a new musical and a Pete-Chris duo”.

I’m glad that they had a musical skit, but it ain’t no Airport Sushi.

The clapping was so loud when they recognize the "John Mulaney's About to do a Musical Parody" stinger

The only thing getting me through this pandemic is John Mulaney’s musicals

When it's a John Mulaney episode, I just expect a musical number.

I'm surprise no one in the comments is mentioning at 4:10 when The Diddler on the Roof Beck Bennett messed up an entire line of his song. He mumbles through the line and then gives a quick smile. You can see John Mulaney reacting and Chris Redd is laughing.

The instrumentation for "Send in the Crowds/Send in the Clowns" is absolutely sublime and Maya's "I'm here" is transcendant.

For those who live in other parts of the world....this sketch is no JOKE, times square is a total ghost town even during the day, and kind of scary to walk through at night.

the out of sync kickline really just kickstarted my high school theatre flashbacks

The rhythm in One Day More was rough, but loved it.

I saw Elaine Stritch perform at the bar in the Carlyle Hotel in the 90s. Maya definitely got the gist! Ol' Elaine, bless her soul, was a real broad.

Kate's performance as a shrimp had me more emotional than I liked to admit.

Beck is murdering Chris this entire sketch. Another beautifully executed SNL classic!

The funniest bit of this musical was pete and chris trying not to laugh at Beck's diddler character

1:35 John probably pulled a Stefon again by inserting that “modest bulge” joke in without telling Pete.

Every time John Mulaney hosts now, I get so nervous that he won't do a musical sketch and every time I realise that there was nothing to be nervous about. I might be an atheist, but I truly believe that that tall child who is also a proud Asian-American woman is truly a God.

Kate's solo really touched my soul.
