The joke about the “lazy lyric” is a stab at Oscar Hammerstein III and even tho he’s been dead for decades, he felt that. That made me pause and pound the table.

+Caelos Deleon No such person as "Oscar Hammerstein III" - dead or alive. As for "The Sound of Music," exactly nobody thinks that show's lyrics are important. Unfortunately, the 1959 musical - and the 1965 movie musical based on the stage production - are responsible for Rodgers & Hammerstein's popular reputation as lightweights who together produced shlock when as a team until "The Sound of Music" (with Oscar Hammerstein II firmly leading the way) they had created serious, innovative work that revolutionized musical theater in a way that can't be fully understood by people who don't know musical theater history but who have seen the (ridiculous and highly flattering to the family it portrays) stage & movie versions of "The Sound of Music."

These lines are epic!!! "Doe, the last name of a body found in a river!" 🤣🤣🤣 I missed it the first time I watched it. This one is definitely worthy of multiple views.

The mixed up "European" accents are the best part.

Maybe because I’m still a theatre kid but this sketch had me ROLLING, actually laughing out loud 😂 fun to see Kenan channeling his inner Moira too 🎵

I love when they do skits from my favorite musicals. This had to be difficult to rehearse. I have no idea who Ariana Debose is (hey lay off me man, I'm raising children and work full time) and even though her few flubs were super minor her recovery was so good. She's good. Going to Google her now.

Three points. One: I’m glad other people are finally realizing how shafted “La” got in the original song. :p Two: “So-how children make our sneakers” is underrated. Three: I’m glad Andrew Dismukes is getting more screen time. :D

Bowen made a whole meal out of “Gruuuuuuesome Death”…and Kenan made me want to get a value meal at Arby’s.

Did anybody catch “So, an album by Peter Gabriel” “that’s a little obscure” 🤣🤣🤣

Some really funny lines, and really well delivered, including: “…See, between concerts and puppet shows and fleeing the nazis, I’m already stretched quite thin.”; and, “…and just like me, she just got kicked out of a nunnery for erratic behavior.” LOL 😄. And 2 really good Marias.

I wonder whether they purposely gave Kenan the French word for a _female_ singer rather than 'chanteur' for a male singer.

I don't know why but whenever SNL makes a sketch about The Sound of Music, it ends up being the most memorable part of the episode.

@@CV-Moore That was a fourth _SNL_ parody of _TSOM_ , but McKinnon was one of the nuns while Grande played Maria as a postulant in the abbey.

In college, I learned that song from a girl from Long Island. "Dough, the cash, I get from Dad" "Ray, a guy at ZBT" "Me, the one, I love the most" "Fa, a place across the sea" "Sew, a thing I never do" "La, a word I learned in France" "Tea, I drink with Sweet N Low" "And that brings us back to Dough"

Chris Redd pulling off double duty pretty well. Kenan gets a lot of credit but Redd is great too.

Cecily Strong as Liesl and John Mulaney as Rolf parodied "Sixteen Going On Seventeen" from _The Sound of Music_ a year ago. Kate McKinnon play Maria. _SNL_ also parodied the movie a few years earlier with McKinnon also as Maria.

I watched the Winter Prom skit right before this where he gets swamp ass lol

The sketch/parody I didn't know I needed! Everyone and every bit was stellar. Queen Latifah - yes! Please make this ongoing and have her make a cameo! Best lines: Redd's and Bowen's. McKinnon and DeBose were stellar

Hysterical! Ariana was amazing, Kate was spot-on as Maria, Kenan was hysterical, and the whole cast was fantastic. One of the best skits ever! We want more!!!

They nailed it! As a child, I remember thinking, "Couldn't Maria come up with something better for La?" Also, the woman playing the new governess has a gorgeous voice - wow!

As someone who ❤❤❤ The Sound of Music, I smiled from the beginning "No, the hills really ARE alive" to the end "Curly Fries!" This was just brilliant!! 😁😁😁

🎵”Let’s start at the very start of the song. It’d be crazy to start in the middle.” 😆(and well-delivered). And, “…and singing is exactly the same.” 😄

"Singing in my Hiioousee"! 🤣 Kenan just one line and you split my sides, just not fair.

This skit is just plain weird, with great little gems of throw away jokes peppered throughout. I loved every second of it.

Ariana DeBose is amazing 😂😂😂 And this was one HELL of an Arbys commercial.

one of the writers definitely came up with that fast food song when they were drunk and asked to put it in a sketch every 5 min until finally they used it here

I love seeing them struggle so hard to not crack when Keenan comes on, they are fighting it. hahah

I feel like Keenan was just looking for an excuse to call himself a chanteuse

Do- the first ingredient in a pizza Re- a gun that comes from the future Mi- a term for Nintendo avatars Fa- the first quarter of Fall Guys So- the first syllable of soda La- as in La Cucaracha Ti- the 20th letter of the alphabet And when Homer messes up, he says “D’oh!”

The only thing better than this skit might be a video of Dame Julie Andrews spraying the screen with her morning tea laughing whilst watching this.

I thought Chloe character was going to sing about killing her mom and how it wasn't a accident the skit would have taken a dark turn in this wholesome musical lol

I wonder how many people realize that a male singer would normally be called a 'chanteur' instead.

I can't stop rewatching this. Each time I catch something new. There's so much happening. And Arianna is Amazing! How is she so good!?! The Sound of Music has always been one of my favorite movies. This beats out Mulaneys 16 going on 17 SOM skit. Both are so entertaining.

Of course this beats John Mulaney's 16 going on 17 sketch. It helps that Ariana DeBose is a professional singer, dancer & Tony-nominated Broadway performer. Mulaney, by contrast, is tone-deaf. He can't sing, can't dance and has no sense of rhythm. Cecily Strong did all the work in their Sound of Music: Rolf and Liesl sketch. Despite having written the parody lyrics & accompanying sketch, Mulaney couldn't follow the song at all. Better not to compare anything Ariana DeBose does to Mulaney's attempts to perform musical theater; it's just not fair.

My favorite from the night! Lost it at fa like fart without the t.

I really enjoyed watching and hearing her do a perfect job for this skit.

There really SHOULD be more frequent references to Queen Latifah, in EVERYTHING!

For the lazy "la" line I like to sing "Law, an L.A. TV show!" when singing the otherwise normal lyrics.

This is one of the best SNL performances that I've ever heard. I really loved it. 👏 👏👏👏👏

The influence of the Lobster Diner sketch is absolutely palpable here
