I worked as a safari guide for 10 years, got very close to elephants. There was physical contact there, tracker was totally cool. The body language of the elephant non-aggressive. Still a bit dangerous because if things change there is no time to respond. Having said that those big bulls often become very habituated, and in areas where they are not poached or hunted they become very relaxed and predictable. Awesome experience!!!

this elephant seemed unfazed by the humans. got the feeling the elephant knew from prior experience there might be something to eat in it for him and he checked them out for it. hope the tourists are instructed not to carry any food with them.

@@GenEmperor He's not that far off (besides the law thingie). When an elephant charges, it's most often a mock charge, when you stand your ground and yell, it will back away. A mock charge can be mostly differentiated by a relaxed trunk, when the trunk is curled better pray that your tour guide has something loud to scare the elephant away.

The men perfectly understood the body language of the elephant. The elephant was simply curious and didn't consider the men and their vehicle as a threat. Or else it would be snoring with widespread ears and tail raised. Even so, the men did a great job in keeping their cool and staying calm.

Exactly. He is designated to protect the tribe/herd/group. So, he will step forth to analyze what's happening with these strange anamolies, like noise making creatures aka jeeps, funny looking creatures inside them, Us. As long as he is satisfied that there's no harm here, we are all safe. That's the reason why, we need to keep our mouths shut when there is a problem ahead and think rather than respond immediately.

The driver and tracker could tell the Bull wasn't aggressive, they likely know the herd pretty well. He had no reason to be concerned for the tracker and saying that about his car was just an offhand wry comment, you guys get too worked up about nothing.

@@marias7599 sure. But he means "friendly elephant". Some of these elephants are used also in india and they are treated correctly. (Like a horse in a ranch for example) But yeah, a "savage elephant" act differently and free. You have to adapt.

I read an article not long ago saying that elephants look at humans the way humans look at puppies. They think we are cute.

That elephant was very kind one.. He just checked whether there is any threat to his group or not. Otherwise he was OK with the presence of the strangers in his territory..

Well that only works for some elephant . And in africa there was elephant massacre. If any elephant survive from that. They always remember what human do to their species. Human scary As F*ck

That was beautiful. The Elephant saw they were no threat and then tried to have a friendly communication with the human-things for a moment. Sensing they were of good spirit, the lead elephant left them alone and moved on.

Love the elephant pause at the end: merely stating I remember this..I will.

RicoTorreze The female crossed first, then the male came out (the guy off camera called him a ‘boy’, but u can tell bcuz he’s bigger than the other 2). As the male is checking them out you can see a juvenile cross behind him. The male was checking out the humans to make sure there was no threat to the juvenile. He sensed no threat so moseyed on his way. If he had sensed threat he would have called out an alarm long b4 his approach & more elephants would have come charging. Yes some may have been killed but the humans would have been the ones left worse off. More that likely these men were nature reserve employees and the elephants are quite use to them. They are an amazing, beautiful & very intelligent animal.

I've read that somewhere.

The elephant knows what he is doing, he is blocking the humans by standing infront of the vehicle , so that his herd is crossing safely to the other side, he is buying time and waiting for the full herd to cross the road, after the last elephant crossed the road , he just waited for two more minutes and walked away, real Leader💕💕

I had the pleasure of doing a safari with the company/lodge involved in this - "toro yaka". I highly recommend them if you ever want to do a safari in krueger - they were absolutely fantastic at everything from knowledge, hospitality, cleanliness, rooms etc!

Towards the end, the elephant is like "Gentlemen u may now watch my behind as I leave!!"😊
