Several years ago, I got to pet an elephant at the fair. I told her how beautiful and sweet she was. She gently wrapped her trunk around me and pulled me against her head for a hug. I spread my arms as far as they would go, leaned my whole body against her, and gave her some kisses. The man with her said it was really unusual for her to do that with someone she just met. I still love that sweet girl.

An idle dream of mine is for someone to either revive Babar or write another elephant-based story and for it to become massively popular. Habitat destruction is hard to stop but poaching for ivory is just total bullshit that would be so easy to stop if there was just some way to kill the demand for it.

For thousands of years, elephants were hunted for the ivory in their tusks, and are still hunted by poachers and the ultra-rich for trophy killings. We even have a special gun for killing them (elephant gun). It has always sickened me to no end, they are such wonderful intelligent creatures. I just wish everyone were as appreciative of them.

the ivory market is not a thing anymore, it is banned in every country, what you find now is a lot of tusks from other animals and believe or not, wooly mammoth ivory that they have been unearthing all over Siberia. The animals that are in trouble are rhinos, people kill them for their horns, Chinese medicine is the worst at killing animals for their stupid ingredients.

It makes perfect sense of the welcome. You’re family to her. Family get upset at each other but we still love each other. We miss things that get on our nerves. Distance does make the heart grow fonder. And elephants are social and very intelligent with excellent memory.

I always loved elephants and wanted to be with them since a child, growing up on Tarzan, Sabu Of The Jungle and other animal films showed me how special, intelligent, loyal and emotional they are. The abusers, poachers, exploiters have a warm place in hell waiting for them. Thank you for this video. Children have very few programs for them that show about animals and teach that you can have relations of love and care with them that lasts a lifetime.

How incredible. It breaks my heart that elephants are killed so pointlessly for their tusks, we really need them around to make the world a magical place.

Can't say enough about how heart-warming it is to see this kind of bonding between animals and humans based on familiarity and trust. These type of bonds that can arise so effortlessly are a constant reminder to us humans as to how we should be towards each other.

this is how elephants should be, in the wild, free, no scars not brutalized, ALL animals should be, absolutely beautiful, absolutely free and beautiful

How, @2:30 and on, Kham La closes her eyes...you can just _feel_ her love for this human. Oh, my heart. What a beautiful thing to see. Thank you for sharing this. I've been donating what I can every year to this incredible sanctuary, ever since I first saw a video of Lek and a group of volunteers doing a rescue of an elephant being turned over from one of those "elephant riding" operations. The one thing I will always do, in any situation where the topic of elephants comes up, is to always encourage others to _never_ support industries that are so abusive to animals. In the case of elephants, that would be Circuses, logging, and the aforementioned "riding" camps. Same reasons to advocate against so-called "factory farming" practices.

Elephants tend to have great memory... When the guy left for 14 months, the elephant was surely missing him and even might have thought he died or something... That thought makes me sad. But I am glad they were united again... That's sweet

The power of being accepted by wild animals is just something else, nothing can really beat the overwhelming feeling that gives you and words is not enough to describe it. We often talk about people being blessed, this is one of those blessed people who got to have a connection not many get to experience.
