Rocket and some jet science was OK but not much else. Germany only came into being from 1866 and rapidly sought to form a global empire in competition with existing ones and moreover at a point where the imperial age was coming to an end. Accompanying the death of European colonialism was the death of racialism at the hands of modern science. Resist the march of progress at your peril because it is futile 🙄

Those Nazis had a different purpose in Tibet. Godwin’s law and revealed that the Bhagavad Gita was actually the favorite book of Heinrich Himmler, who recommended it as a way of keeping your sanity among the mass killings that they where performing. Himmler carried this book usually in his pocket, and referred to it frequently in his diary. In the end, Zen is a way of achieving happiness, but just happiness, not good. A person can be a genocide and a Zen master; both are not in conflict.

You missed out the role played by Sir Francis Younghusband in encouraging Schaffer to ignore the British authorities and just to go straight ahead into Tibet. Younghusband had been the commander of the British army that had crossed the Himalayas in the middle of winter thus catching the Tibetan army offguard and occupying Lhasa. The slaughter of the Tibetan troops that occurred in the battle that followed seems to have (unsurprisingly) incurred the undying dislike of the British by the Tibetans. The book is called "Himmlers Crusade" should anyone desire a more detailed description of these events.
