The abundant information given with the implication for anyone viewing this aiming to considering andor making the navy reserves a long term career is definitely eye opening for the navy reserves retirement points accumulation.

    So for Reserves, what I understood is you can choose to participate more than the required minimum of days? Also what if you would want to switch to Active duty, is that possible after your contract and how would that go with retirement & GI Bill funding for college?

  • @NavyTransitionCoach

    1. You can do more active time and get paid more. 2. You can request to go active from the reserves. 3. If you retire from active you get an active duty retirement which kicks in as soon as you retire. Its the opposite with the reserves. You get paid around 65yrs old for retirement.

    Great video!! I have a question. If i have 7 years active duty and then join the reserves and i serve my next 13 years on orders FTS or otherwise to complete my 20 years, would i be able to receive my pension at my completion of 20 yrs or would i have to wait till 60?

    I want to say yes but I'm not totally sure. The while FTS has me unsure because technically they are Reservists. Go to Facebook and get on the US Navy Benefits Advisor group. You should get your question answered there.

    Can we use the GI bill and tuition assistance at the same time? Also, does the VA pay you for going to school as a reservist? I also tried looking online for extra like funeral honors and cannot find a link that explains that certain pay chart. Thank you for the videos!

  • @LauraZorza

    @LauraZorza

    Del Collado, no, and tuition assistance (TA) is not given to Reservist unless you are in extended orders of 120-days or more. Not sure what you mean in regards to the VA paying for school as a Reservist. As a Reservist you have Chapter 1606 ($392 per month for full-time students). Post 911 is 100% with 36-months Active Duty. Funeral honors is one drill day and point (one day of Active Duty pay) per funeral. Note, you can do ten funerals per day, but you are only paid for one and earn one retirement point.

    Not sure. They would likely put you in a non drill status or have you drill for more points. More points more money. Id consider also that there is still a contract commitment of time to serve.
