What they DON'T Tell you about being in the Navy Reserves | Navy Transition Coach

Being in the Navy Reserves is more than just receiving the benefits but also about making sure you are aware of the down falls so that your experience can be a good one. Is the Navy Reserves absolutely worth the things that I discuss in this video, yes. Just like on active duty sometimes things don't go our way, but we learn, teach others, and move on. What they DON'T Tell you about being in the Navy Reserves can either help you or harm you, its all up to you.

    @Courtney Lynch, in a nutshell, FTS (Full-Time Reserves) is “technically” a Reserve contract, but you are on Active Duty orders your entire 4 or 5 years. You mission is supporting and training Reservist (SELRES). You receive the same benefits as Active Duty: Pay, medical, dental, 30-days leave (vacation), retirement, educational benefits, etc. FTS work a normal full week like Active Duty and are paid daily. Reserves (SELRES) drill 2-days a month = 4-days of Active Duty pay. Navy FTS ratings: YN, PS, NC, HM, AE, AT, AO, AZ, AM, AS, AD, AWF, AME, PR, LS, DC, EM, BM, ET, and IT.

  • @NavyTransitionCoach

    @NavyTransitionCoach

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi, in order to re-rate for the Reserves after leaving active duty, you have to apply and qualify first through CWAY which begins at your 15 month mark prior to your EAOS. The rate must actually be open for you to cross into. Once you are approved for the new rate you will wait until your drill weekend to schedule your A-school with the CCC. To actually go to school can be a year out.

    The Navy pays for 90% of the things you need when working with them at any point in time. But yes, you can go anywhere BUT you still have to abide by the world laws. By this I mean, if you want to go to drill in Japan, you have to get a visa of some sort to live in Japan.

    Basically there is a program called JROTC which you can enroll in as a freshman in high school which gets you into the military college, which is free and you also get paid while you’re in there (over 1k$ a month). So when you complete the military college you become an officer. Honestly I would 100% encourage you to do that. Schooling as an enlisted reservist is definitely an option because you only have to show up for drills twice a month, BUT if you do not have at least 36 months contract as an active duty member you do not get college benefits. All you will get is $392 a month towards school which is nothing. I don’t know what they call that funding I think it’s the act 3216. For the ROTC program I don’t know if you can join after freshman year, I do know there are recruits who go to high schools to encourage seniors to join the military but i don’t know if there are other ways around getting into military college after you’ve graduated high school. But honestly I think that’s the best thing in the fucking world.

    If she can accept all that the Navy requires to join then she should go active. I'll always reccomend it to young ones. You learn so much and have so much grace given to you as you are learning to grow up. Consistent income and Many GUARANTEED benefits both in and out of the Navy.

    I'm not completely sure but I do believe it starts day 1 of boot camp. You sign up for 8yrs total. 4 active and 4 inactive UNLESS you go Reserves then it's different. Many people do 4 yrs active and then 4 years inactive meaning you don't do anything with the Navy unless absolutely necessary.

    @priv acc, contracts start the day you ship to boot camp after you swear in a second time. All contracts, regardless of Active Duty, FTS or Reserves are 8-years. Many Ratings (jobs) are now 5-years with 3-years Reserves (either inactive Reserves where you don’t drill or SELRES, which is when you do drill).

    Yes you can serve as a reservist. Typically 3 to 6 years for reservist. Please reach out to a local recruiter for more in depth info and offerings. You may be able to join as a higher rank because of your skillset and time you have been working in the field.
