Would love to do funeral honors. My grandmother was buried at Jax National Cemetery under my granddad’s name. He was her 2nd husband and my biological grandfather so I wanted her to be honored since he was KIA in Vietnam over 16 phantoms of water and body not recovered. It’s an honor to show family that their lives meant something.

For non priors join the army national guard or air national guard if you want part time the state has excellent benefits and on top of that they get the same gi bill the reserves get on top of the state tuition assistance which most states either waive tuition for community colleges and universities or pay for them other then that go active duty all six branches have the same gi bill for active duty all of them are good. go to the reserves after your active duty contract is over after I think the reserves is better built for prior service over non prior service.

For DCO is there an age cap if you go from enlisted to applying to be an officer? Do all programs still have to attend OCS also? I was thinking about going that route reserve or enlisted then apply to be an officer.

This Navy Transitions coach youtube feature pertaining to getting ready for navy reserve annual training including the details on the youtube authors own navy journey is descriptive and helpfuI for both present and future reference. I just completed today my first navy reserve annual training which wad an out of state/outside my geographic area of residence type of navy reserve annual training and this video contains some content for I to keep in mind for next year. The only thing I would share for other navy reservists who have yet to do their first annual training that I wish I thought of even just 6 to 8 months ago though I understand might be common knowledge among veteran and other navy reservists is this: try to schedule and make vocal the location of where you prefer your navy reserve annual training to be as early as possible in the navy reserve fiscal year even if the location involves the location where you are already drilling your monthly drills as a navy reservist. The reason being the place/geographic location/city and state of residence you are already drilling as a navy reservist could fill up really fast in annual training slots especially if it is a popular place during the summer touristy season. I am still thankful to have been given the chance to complete my first navy reserve annual training even with it having been out of state. Additionally I understand and have seen examples with my own two physical eyes the obvious of how doing an out of state navy reserve annual training could be a preference andor a top choice preference for other navy reservists. However I felt it necessary to speak up and share for some navy reservists who may prefer to do their first navy reserve annual training in the same area they do their monthly weekend navy reserve drills.

Hi am currently 38 and I’ve am try to join the navy but I’ve had my mind set on the reserves. I been working a civilian government job with the TSA for 5 years and my wife is a NC state employee with 9 years left that she wants to finish to have a full retirement. I also have a 3 year old. What would be the best option for me if I don’t want to move my family around yet and not be separated, too long from them? Am also worried that I’ll have a decrease in income versus my civilian career if I go active duty. My recruiter asked if I had considered active duty and suggested that I go active duty. Do you have any advice for me? Btw I have a bachelors degree, but I don’t have the GPA requirement to be an officer, but I know I would at least come in as an E3. My original goal was to make learn skills and training that would propel me for in the civilian world while making a career out of the military on the side.

No. When you talk to a recruiter you choose, Active/FTS/Reserves. If you already signed a contract you have to wait until your initial contract is complete.

Hello! I was hoping if you could provide any information todo with the government refreshing rates at the beginning of the fiscal year (October)? Just a little background on myself again, I am 31 years old with a degree in Mathematics. I have 5+ years industry experience in autonomous technology as a System Test Engineer as a tech lead. I went ahead and visited a recruiters office and spoke with the senior recruiter there about the CWT rate. He told me that the CWT rate was no longer available for this fiscal year (he pulled up the info on his computer and verified this), but he also mentioned that the government refreshes the rates at the beginning of the fiscal year come October. He suggested that I go ahead and try to enlist via DPEP. Or, that I come back in October. My plan is to take the PiCat in September and then go and check back in during the beginning of October to see if the CWT rate has availability again

The navy needs to also expand eligibility for the USNCC for reservists. Reservists in the Coast Guard can access the programs, so I see no reason why reserve sailors should not be afforded the same privilege. This is especially true since the degree programs all directly tie in with enlisted Navy jobs, most of which are open to reservists.

Do you honestly feel that joining reserves is worth it from just being a civilian? I hear mixed reviews about the health insurance, benefits, etc. I know one Veteran who said it’s awesome but then another saying it’s terrible.

This Navy Transition Coach youtube feature of Real Reservists Share What Civilian Life Is Like In The Navy Reserve has both fascinating and intriguiing components. First off, I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve in the United States Navy Reserve since last summer. However one of the most important things I would like to share with someone else considering the navy reserves that I wish I would have known much sooner is this: If you decide to join the navy reserves first it is very crucial/essential that you try to have both a plan A and plan B and potentially a plan C civilian employment wise on how you are going to make it as a civilian via whatever civilian employment andor job opportunities you do while being a navy reservist for at least the first 2 years of your first navy reserve enlistment even if you are prior service military. The reasons being: Currently as a new navy reservist for at least the first 2 years of your navy reserve career you might be waived from going on any type of navy active duty deployment andor active duty type of orders (unless you get permission from certain key members of your navy reserve leadership chain/group(s) during this time. This can obviously be a happy dream come true arrangement for any navy reservist who would like at least 2 years andor longer to live a civilian life free from any type of comparable active duty opportunities outside of the mandatory navy reserve drill committments (while being in contrast a shock to any navy reservist who was hoping to pick up some active duty opportunities within the first 2 years of their initial navy reserve contract). Additionally a navy reservist even if blessed with a highly understanding and open mind civilian employer towards navy reservists may require at least two to four weekdays off each month (outside of days off needed for the mandatory navy reserve drills) in order to take care of medical appointments mandatory to be medically ready, go the closest navy reserve center to take care of certain navy reserve admin and other matters that may be only resolved seeing certain navy tar (training and administration of the reserves) sailors in person that can only be resolved on certain weekdays (due to hours of operation having higher availability on weekdays). The at times weekdays off necessity may sound Captain obvious to most navy reservists however I had to include this due to my awareness of some really good civilian job opportunities that only have mainly a weekends off schedule. Please understand that I am stating all of this being thankful that I am a United States Navy Reserve sailor. However something in me wanted to write this for potential navy reserve sailors still on the fence about joining though at least who might go in the navy reserves with both eyes more wide open metaphorically speaking to more of what to be more ready andor prepared for the more easier way andor beneficial way.

Have been watching many of your videos. I Am retired from active duty Navy and considered the National Guard & Reserves. However, I opted to volunteer in the State Guard for 10 years; the Air Force Auxiliary (aka Civil Air Patrol) for 20 years; and the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 25 years. Those are other options for anyone still wanting to serve in unpaid volunteer capacities. Thank you for all of your hard work on making your videos.

I served in the Marines from 2015-2020 as an Avionics Technician for F18's and I'm thinking about joining the Navy Reserves. Since I got out of the military, I have had multiple Technician jobs on the civilian side and I also have a good IT background. What would be some good suggestions for jobs if I want to join the Navy Reserves? Any recommendations?

You don't have to quit your job. There is an act called the USERRA ACT. It protects your position at your job for u0 to 5yrs. They can not firebyy for military service.
