Looking at a physical photo book is very self fulfilment especially pictures created by oneself. I often have this feeling is that, anything I can’t hold or touch = they don’t exist! I never considered digital thing is real, I consider it as an illusion, only when it is on paper that I can hold in my hand. When I turned off my computer or when there suddenly without electricity, I feel that I have nothing left except the physical items. Your photo book looks great 👍

My good friend John Truman persuaded me to make a photo book. I took his advice and am grateful for doing so. I agree with all you say. My pics look so much softer and pleasing than on a screen.

Nice idea. As a commercial photographer I don't have too much fresh personal material. But for me my project will be to do a book about family life, when kids were babies etc. and print a book for all kids and grandparents too. Personally I see a book for personal use, not for a portfolio. Portfolio could be the next step after personal book.

Matti, your book looks terrific! I’ve made many, mostly travel PhotoBooks, but am now beginning to produce books of my more specialised art photography. Unfortunately, Saal Digital is not yet in Australia. I’ve noticed a few people overseas using that company and they look good. Momento is probably the Aussie equivalent, though expensive. It’s extremely satisfying to see the finished product - and more importantly, to refer to it to from time to time, and of course, to show people your work.

Hi Matti, great video and very inspiring too. I totally agree with you. I have made several books of my pictures. My last photo book was about IR photography of a beautiful Cemetery in Copenhagen. It feels something special when you have your photos in your hands and you can touch them

Thanks for sharing and congrats on getting your book out. It looks very well-done (both the images and the quality of the product). I've been "laying the groundwork" for a book way too long, as the steps you mention are so time-consuming and daunting (especially curating/sequencing). One of my concerns is that certain images look better on different papers (I use a number of types) and luster seems to be the best compromise for me if I had to pick one, but the matte paper in your book seems to have a nice, subtle sheen which looks like it may work well for a variety of images. Which type of book did you order (Hardcover/XT/Pro)? I'm assuming they provide proofs for bulk orders.

I've made two books and am working on a third, just for personal records. They make my photos look better than I thought and give a purpose rather than leaving them on hard drives etc. To say that doing books improve your photography, is stretching it a bit in my openion? I need to get out more with the camera but a good topic for a video Thanks 📷👍
