From one beard brother to another, I love the beard. It’s interesting to see how people play with the different spreads. I personally love full spreads because I want the full impact of the photo. But I also enjoyed how the white space draws the viewer’s eye to the image. Reminds me of a matted frame and gives me something to think about on future projects.

Hi Your book has also inspired me to do more with my own photographs following a recent visit to Tenerife where I found lots of angular modern architecture. I had one film camera and 3 rolls of Fomapan 100 and quickly became obsessed with all the modern zig-zags presented to me. Hopefully, I will get the images into coherent, printable form soon and maybe Ted will do a critique on it?

What a fantastic mixture of different approaches to photography! I really like that you give sugestions for improvements, for me it is a great way to value the work of the creators and a gift. And I thought I have bought enough books this year...😀

Great episode, Ted. I really like that your suggestions for improvement are mostly related to the printing/book design (an area I believe most modern photographers have very little experience in), while you limit your input on the photography to what the photographer is doing well. You've struck a very nice balance in how to offer unsolicited critiques

Hey Ted, Enjoyed your presentation (as always). However, based on the title, I expected it to be more of a “how to”, not your usual discussion of books submitted by viewers… Soooo, how about doing a session that does fit this title? I for one would find it most useful as I am trying to put together a book (or a zine?) myself. I need some info on basics such as: Book or zine? Number of pages. Which binding? Paper choice? Layout considerations. Etc. Thanks.

Hey Ted, Richard is right on here! I what a long video or maybe series on how to make a book, Zine, etc.... One video on the mechanics of finding the right on line services, styles, Zine vs. Book, etc... and then one the process of layout and design.

This is exactly why I clicked on this video. I thought I was going to see suggestions on how to. Book manufacturers, what to look for, how to prepare, etc.. How to avoid losing info in the blacks. Getting an artist copy is only good if you know your printer will use the same printer for the next or all runs. The bigger the company, the less chance of this being the case.

This was an awesome video, thanks so much. Working on a photo book of my own and your comments on white space and reserving full bleeds for only a few important shots really resonated with me. Would love to see more of these kinds of videos in the future. Was expecting a “tutorial” from the title but i much prefer this style actually, as there’s no one way to do it and you highlight the modern vs traditional approaches

I love this series so much but I also gotta say, Ted, you owe me like $500 bucks. I keep adding featured books to a photobook wish list and it's getting expensive to keep buying these amazing works of art. Jokes aside, as someone who truly loves photography and looking at other peoples photos, this series has given me the inspiration to seek out photo books from literally anyone. I only looked at Adam Ansel or some photographers on YT but never sought out other peoples work. I spent hours looking through Esty zines and adding them to the Wishlist which I can't wait to start going through and purchasing. I also realized in this process that zines are a great way to share work. Far less pressure of perfection than a full book, far more free in terms of content and expectations and they are usually fairly cheap. Some are hand made by the photographer which adds a very personal connection to the work. Thanks for continuing to do this awesome series! Can't wait to send you a book (or zine) of my own.

Great video, Ted! I hope to put together a photo book over the next 6 months. I'm not sure of a correct amount of pictures to be included or pricing. Somehow I believe the printing price for the volume of work will steer me to a correct cutoff. I shoot what catches my eye from a variety of focal lengths. I'll jot down ideas and have worked them on a weekly rotation. I have 3 years worth of work. How does one send you a copy when it's printed? Please let me know by June 2023. Thanks!

You know Ted, I really don't watch enough of this type of video as it is much more inspiring than the usual kind of thing you get on YT. Not that there is anything wrong with gear reviews and on-location Vlogs, heck I do that sort of thing myself!. That last book resonated with me more than the others as I recently took a holiday with my partner to Tenerife and in addition to my digital camera, took a Nikon FE and three rolls of Fomapan 100. That film seemed to suit the angularity of the modern hotels predominant in Tenerife and the very contrasty light I found there. On return and developing the film, I found I had a small, but coherent body of work, just crying out for publication. So, perhaps a Zine as maybe there is not enough for a whole book? Thanks anyway and maybe my Zine will be being critiqued on your channel one day.

Ted, I have been a subscriber for several years - thank you for continuing to challenge us. Question - Would you consider saying something about how books you describe were created? I understand that some books may be hand made by the author, others printed by local print shops, or others by online services. Just a sentence about how the book was made would be helpful.

I made the awful mistake of going with book baby, and my book came back looking like an Iphoto book :( I want my book to be as large as 11x14 with thick pages. I understand the economics of KZread and camera reviews are necessary but keep doing this kind of content as well.
