My name is Matti Sulanto, I'm from Finland and I'm a photographer.
I had my very first paid assignment in 1983 and have done photography for living ever since.
For the last decade or so I have mostly concentrated on corporate photography, but my real love is documentary and journalism. I also like street photography, in which I still have a lot to learn.
On my vlog I share my views on Photography and other interests of mine.
I have a website too, if you are interested: sulanto.fi

how did you get the same exact picture from 3 different cameras ?
I really like the compact size of the E-M5 MKII its much smaller than my Huttig Merkur from 1900s and no plates or chemicals to deal with.
Hi Matti, Tamron have done well with this lens, a great Walkabout lens for all occasions. Very nice image quality at 300mm like the Red Bus and the Pink building with the Windows, and the White bird was very nice. Have you been converted to Telephoto Lenses now, Ha Ha 😂. I tell you what Matti these Third Party lenses perform really well like the Viltrox lenses you have shown before. Great presentation, thanks Matti 😊
Back in the days before Panasonic released full frame, or right after they did so, the future of m43 was not clear. There was even prediction of the death of it. Now it's a few years down the timeline, and both OM and Pana had released a few more m43 cameras, I think it will stay in the market for a few more years to go. Why not longer? I saw that the Panasonic S9 is going to tackle the small form factor requirement. I predict: m43 would stay on, mostly in the direction where OM is going: higher end, more capable ones. The idea is that the lens system is way more portable than FF ones. So for bird shooters, some sport shooters and travel/action shooters, the overall system would be much more luggable. The opposite end of development is less likely: phones are getting much better, with better lenses and picture quality. So a compact and light m43 with lesser quality is unlikely to be popular.
I placed my gopro 11 mini on my DSLR last summer. I've replaced that with my x4 about a month agao. I've seen a paparazzi on TV donit and thought it was a great idea. Nice pictures.
Thanks for sharing and glad to hear you liked my photos.
Hmm this thing dropped in prize. Now it’s around 850ish euro. Seems like a no brainer?
Comparing shots of the _same_ motive/scene would've been *much* appreciated in a comparison.
Hello, and greetings from germany. I'm using a gx80/85 with the same kid lens on it. Do you limited the auto ISO to specific value. Something like max iso1600 oe maybe 3200?
On a MFT camera my limit is usually ISO 3200 or 6400.
@@mattisulanto thanks
My current favorite lens is the Z 40mm F2 on a Z6ii. I have a Nikon APS-C Z30 and was curious about the Viltrox 27mm lens, but it seems way too big for a pocket camera. I would get the Ricoh and shoot much more as it’s more appealing and compact. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing and watching.
They say retro camera with dedicated shutter dial, ISO dial and aperture ring is actual fun and spinning dials is like shooting with computer, is this true, if true then if you have the money, shooting with Hasselblads X2D will be not fun or as fun as Zf?
I guess it depends on your definition of fun😀
Matti, I disagree. MFT is strong, just perhaps in different ways than you desire. I have enjoyed and learn bunch for so many of your past videos, however, this isn’t one of them. I’ll just reply to a couple of points: 1) innovation: I find the OM 1.2 to be highly innovative. It continues to raise the bar with computational photography in a method that is fun, easy and quick to use. 2). Lenses. Recent offering over the past couple of years include and a ray of compact of four lenses from OMDS as well as a completely different 150-600 super zoom that was extensively adapted and tweaked for MFT. This wide variety of new offering does it appeal to everybody however there is a lens in there for everyone. 3). Enjoyment, quality and value. My local Camera Shop. (yes I am fortunate to have one that I can walk in and grab on all major manufacture’s kits) sells more MFT units than any other category. SUMMARY. MFT is alive and well in my region. More importantly, MFT is an amazing system and the best for me (Olympus/OMDS & Pany user).
Sulanto...?? Nama anda Indonesia (jawa) banget
The fun part of m4/3 is in the size of the lenses.
I stopped using M43 when my daughter started stealing it to shoot live band performances. Her work is fantastic
yes. what do you use such nice cameras for? I recommend a couple bench to sit and chat on? 😊. Thank you for the nice conversation
I can never explain any photography related things with such clarity to anyone even I am a photographer. :) You're a photographer and also a great educator. First time seeing your content and I love it. Thanks Matti!
Thank you for those kind words.
I'll stick with photo shop b&W conversions and fo to the Infr Red filter. I do like the contrast and somewhat "otherworldly" vision
Was this lens ever part of a kit with a camera ?
Yes, it came with several cameras if I remember correctly. I'm sure Google will tell you more😀
@@mattisulanto thank you 🙏🏼 I just recently bought a gh4 but I’m struggling to choose between the 12-32mm pancake lens or the 14-42mm g x vario lens for video. What lens out of the 2 would you recommend
@@BrianBrxtn I like the 12-32mm but that only a personal preference and I can't promise that you'd like the same😀
The Firmware 1.03 is rumored to have fixed the overheating. You need to use a dummy battery with the A6700 and you can't have the screen set to daylight brightness. Also, adding a metal camera cage and 15mm NATO rails helps get rid of heat by increasing TDP.
great overview - thankyou I've got photolab 7 and like a few others have said, it's not adding much extra for the £99 - although the wide angle "fixer" could be amazing for group photos in tight spaces!
You talked about 35 vs 50mm but didnt shoot with it.. wow.. thumbs down
Please watch the full video before leaving a comment or thumbs up or down. What do I say in the video from about 1:28 on?
Can you please do some detailed explanation on how the highlight shadow graph works? Is it a processing done with the raw data or just over the jpeg after the raw processing? And does this bring more noise than post-processing raw on our own? And how the i dynamic feature can go along with this settings? Can we use both in combination to get better dynamic range and results? Can you compare with examples? I tried to find those internet and all i could find was some vague comments over forums. It would be great if you can find some time to do a video on it. And there is an option of use digital colour filter over black and white picture profiles. How can we use these? Does it give same results as using actual colour filters? If so that is a great feature and i haven't seen any video on it.
Only Panasonic engineers know how the in camera processing works but I think it's safe to assume that the starting point is a RAW photo. I'll consider your video idea but meanwhile you can easily make your own comparisons and see what happens. Regarding color filters, here is a video I made awhile back that you may find interesting: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hGR8r9WBia-1c8Y.html
I have a GR III and enjoy it. Your video is interesting and enjoyable. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Hi, amazing vid!! Is there any lens adapter that would allow me to connect this 8-18 lens to the s5iix? 🧐
There is no such adapter.
thanks for review
Thanks for watching!
love it great video Matti. Panasonic should make a gx8 with a monochrome sensor preferably in square format which could be done within the m43 mount.
I picked up my first film camera in Germany, back in 1959 while serving in the US Army. Later a canon point and shoot in Vietnam, also a film camera. Upon returning to the United States, I used a Nikon film camera, and later a Nikon digital camera, followed by lumix, fujifilm, and today O M 5. I shot freelance photography so much of the camera gear was a tax expense and could be used to deduct from taxes. I could have been happy had I stopped at the LUMIX, but a son got me to try the fujifilm Pro series. I came back to my 4/3 because of weight of the camera. I learned sometime ago that the camera is just a tool. I shoot street photography and print my best work. Most of the gear paid for itself until I retired 19 years ago. I just found your site and find it useful.
i hope panasonic make gh7 senser into GM1. this is a dream camera
You might have missed the Canon RF 28mm f2.8 pancake lens. I thought you might have mentioned that because you usually like a nice pancake lens.
That lens did not exist when I recorded this video.
hello,40mm is amazing,i have tamron20-40F2.8,and i always use the 40mm to shot.how about you think 58mm,i same like 58mm and 40mm.
Always enjoy learning new ideas!!!! Nice video Matti!!!
Thanks so much!
For sure I would subscribe if Aleksi would start a channel!
I have a question! I convert the photos in pure raw, I import the files into Lightroom to merge them, the HDR file is generated. After this I'm wondering whether to export the file generated on Lightroom to TIFF. ,Merging the photos into film pack or making some corrections in lightroom and exporting to film pack and then returning to lightroom.
Your process is far more complicated than mine so unfortunately I can't help. I have never tried anything like that.
Love this guy. Really genuine! Thank you very much for this honest review.
My pleasure!
Yup don't listen anyone use whatever we had , I only had fuji xt100 and Nikon j5 and I just nice for taking street photography even with the kit and manual lens ,
I do enjoy Matti’s videos, he comes across as such an amiable guy. I have come to the conclusion that photography equipment is simply a matter of marketing. If you just like taking snaps then you are steered towards the best mobile camera. If you are a professional you are steered towards full frame with all the gimmicks and if you are an enthusiast you just keep buying and buying. For years I have been in this latter category when really photography is all about the image and the light for which a basic camera is perfectly adequate, Most of us don’t really need IBIS, we don’t need very fast shutter speeds, we don’t need enormously high ISOs, or indeed weather sealing. We just need to find great subjects, super light and comfortable shoes to take us around with our cameras.
Thanks for your kind words.
Over 10 years ago, I was close to buying the glossy white version of the XZ-1 on discount... I sooo regret not doing so now. Obviously, that involves keeping the camera over the years too, haha.
It's much cheaper to buy a CF adapter and use SD cards than try and find CF cards
Hello! for the panasonic gh7 i would buy a 12-35 or 12-40 lens panasonic or Olympus, which is better for weddings - faster focusing at f 2.8. thank you
I’m wondering how much the lack of working IBIS is affecting your operation inP. I would think it could be’the’ majority of the problem.
It's a limitation in low light but it's not an issue in other situations. Would be nice if worked though, of course😀
I would buy a Nikon D780 - amazing camera - than a Z5.. Anyway, I'm still curious about this body. Cheers! D.
I use em1 whith 12-40 2.8. 25 mm 1.2 is second lens. But for funny photography (travel, family, ecc..) in this moment I think for me is better to find an A7S to use with my zuiko vintage lens. Manual focus and FF with less megapixel is a better way..
Traduci il testo con la fotocamera today the entry level camera or similar no longer makes sense. only the form in which to insert the technology without castrations makes sense
Em 10 is my fav by default because it’s my only one. I’d like to find a reasonably priced PenF
Luminar is good for people who are not serious about photography , it is still a Lut based toy
Wow, someone who actually knows how to instruct in a concise, accurate and easy to understand method without the fluff, thanks Dude.
You're very welcome!
I have all three formats and have dicovered that at 77 years of age, that good ergonomics come from bigger bodys not smaller ones.My Olympus MFT cameras have the same thing in common, they are small and fiddly to operate. My recent aquisition of a Canon APSC and a 19 years old full frame canon ,are much better in their operation.I like the feeling of having a brick in my hand as it helps stabilise my shots and also allows me to re-learn the art of photography. As for Olympus I would advise placing their MFT sensors in a larger body, with modern materials it won't have to be heavy but will give room for better ergonomics.............................
