Excellent advice Matti. On a recent trip to Mexico I asked for permission before taking photos of individuals and no one said no. In fact, most gave a beautiful pose and a smile for me.

Hello Matti, A really good observation about the difference in telephoto versus wide angle lenses as they affect street photographs. The idea of getting the viewer inside the scene as opposed to being a distant observer is going to be helpful to me.

Hi Matti, you made some really good points like to go out shooting by yourself. We don't need distractions like there phone ringing. I think it's good to stay in one place to take photos. There are so many great compositions just waiting to be snapped in a small area. Well said Matti about respect, and we need to have etiquette. There are some things in photography that we shouldn't cross the line. Nice pictures, enjoy your stay in Melbourne. Thanks Matti 😊

As photographers we don't have any special privileges. And every time we go out with our gear we represent our fellow craftsman. So don't be that jerk. Stereotypes may not be true but they exist - just like when you see a Tesla being driven recklessly and start to wonder if all Tesla drivers are like that.

Great advice, as always. I usually use small cameras in the street but on one occasion last year I took a Sigma SD15 (large DSLR) with 18-55. I thought it would make me very conspicuous but I found people ignored me as usual! Maybe I'm invisible.... You should consider a hat with a brim to protect the tops of your ears from the sun - I learnt this the hard way (my ears stick out further than yours though).

Moi Matti, I just took the leap and purchased the GR iiix and after about a week in Thailand I couldn’t be more happy. Sure, the autofocus struggles in darkness creating some limitations, but having done some Night Market and Walking Street late night fotos I’m super satisfied and happy I made the purchase. Former owner of a Fujifilm X100F and just recently returned the X100V I think the portability and “stealthiness” of the GR just gives it the extra edge and advantage. Also I think pictures come out way sharper, at least compared to my former X100F. Your channel is highly appreciated Matti. Warm thanks and greetings from a fellow Finn. 👍👍

Great tips Matti. I get out for a street session every couple of weeks. But lately I’ve noticed people dodging me or turning their backs to me. And on my last walk a group of shady guys called me out. Luckily I was at a train stop so I could get away quickly. But it made me a bit wary of going out alone. I definitely prefer being out alone too but as a small woman with camera gear, I need to be safe. Do you feel safe?

Yes, I was car-jacked, out alone in a park. Car stolen and wrecked. Now I only got to places where people are. I feel, and probably look vulnerable, so am more careful. Unfortunately we now live in a world gone mad. I also subscribe to your channel.

@@trishfre2 That’s terrible! Someone here was carjacked out photographing owls on a country road. They stepped out to take photos and left the car running as it was cold. The thieves dumped the car later but of course all the photo gear was gone. Yes we need to be vigilant and stay safe.
