My First Dunk after 4 years of training(5'8"/172cm)

some dunk mix
• DUNK PRACTICE
my latest vido jumping practice
• Jumping Practice
not a perfect dunk, it's my very first time though
I did tons of drills, training
I went from hardly grab the rim and now, my first dunk comes up
When I was 21 years old, I can't even touch the rim
I reached my goal after I turned 25.
The reason why it took me 4 years to dunk is that I got some injuries during my training session and I did gave up several times.
but I didn't quit in the end
so this is it.

    I see many negative comments specially about this guy losing his time..etc but frankly I can only see positive outcomes in what he did : He developed his mental strength and stayed amazing strong on his path to his goal He strengthened his body (muscles & ligament) and looks in excellent shape He looks healthy and I bet he is really (one of the benefits of sport) He happily reached a goal set (self gratification) He most probably improved in some way or another his basketball skills (by any means he is at least a better athlete) And I'm sure he inspired many who watched this video who think they are too short in height to jump signicantly high and any other goals they are after.. I can even add that I to my opinion I prefer seeing people getting better like this than fucking up his own life and others' in drugs, robbery, dangerous driving or aggressions

    archang3llo. I couldn't have said it any better. It's a shame we human beings are so quick to criticise each other rather than try and build each other up. The race is not fir the swift but for him who can endure the journey! What we fail to see here is the victories won through that 4 years period. He's self confidence is sure at a high many of you that criticise may never reach or begin to understand. Stay positive my brothers and sisters, its time we stop letting the system of competition separate and distroy our society. Let us strive rather to be that source of strength towards each other we all search for daily. Love you all 💪❤️

    jumping half and inch higher doesn't mean you can dunk it means you can touch rim. Your hand must be well over the rim to dunk a basketball. OR else you'll get rim checked the fuck out of you. And even getting that half an inch to touch the rim isn't easy that's adding 6 inches to your vertical doesn't happen in a few months m8 If you're not lying that you can even get that close, then post a video i'll check it out but internet trash doesn't prove shit

    It also takes coordination and training not only your big muscles but fast twitch ones too. All the guys you see with mad hops are explosive. Yes squaring will help, but you have to work on explosiveness as well

  • @ahastar1141

    @ahastar1141

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yeah I think a lot of people forget about that stuff. I mean I think your calves are another critical muscle to work on. The big thing I think is you gotta work on your explosiveness. Strength is useless if you cant put it to good use in a fraction of a second. Additionally you have to learn the coordination to jump. I have always been a 1 foot dunker since its pretty natural and it took me a few months and some training to get the steps down to dunk with 2 feet from a running start

    This video is plenty old. For those just starting out or those inexperienced, some of you would be surprised that you can probably jump much higher than you currently are. Jumping isn't just running and jumping. Some people are naturally athletic or light on their feet, not exactly the best combo for a beginner. Most beginners or inexperienced jumpers don't put power into their jump; they are graceful and quick but power is harder to understand. I was a freshman, about 5'5, could jump from the free throw and grab net but was only grabbing the rim with two fingers. It wasn't until summer when a lifter happened to oversee me jumping. Showed me I wasn't putting much power into my quad or hamstring. He had me try again, my jump was a little miscalculated. But my 2nd attempt I nearly broke my neck, I had grabbed the rim unexpectedly and the force as swinging me forward. I did it again and again. Within a week I was jumping from a foot or two inside the ft line grabbing the rim. Next time you're out, consider how you're jumping. If you're sitting in a chair, consider the angle your legs are in to get you up, remember that angle when you're running full steam toward the rim

    people who say he didn't dunk or that training is a loss of time, are not 1m72 for sure, it's an obsession when you are a "small guy" to do a dunk, just to prove to those high guys who are 2m that you can do it like them or even better, it's a real goal and i respect that, i even share your goal and one day i hope i will do it !

  • @Shakester71
    @Shakester718 жыл бұрын

    He could of been dunking a lot faster if he just jumped rope. Even add a weighted vest while doing it and doing it on his toes. Its not about how much muscle are in your legs or how strong you are. Its about developing your muscles to twitch. Think of your leg muscles as rubber bands. You pull a rubber band and let it go, its snaps back fast. Thats how you want your leg muscles to react. When you set your toes to jump, all the muscles in your leg expand like a rubber band. Its how fast you can get those muscles to snap back that gives you explosiveness when jumping.

    +ZombieFetish Absolutely. In high school, I was 5'10 in my junior year and barely touched the rim. Our coach had us do a drill where we'd jump and touched the backboard on our toes as fast as we can which is pretty much like jumping rope. He had us do this drill before every practice along with suicides and other drills. By the end of my junior season, I was dunking the ball. I continued to jump rope whenever I could. My senior year, I grew to 6'0 and was dunking easily.

    When you can dunk, you play much time in matches than before. When you do a layup, a pivot can easily bash you but when you dunk, it's 100% sure you've put the ball in the basket.

    😮 WOW! One of the most positive and inspiring videos I have ever seen on KZread. I will never forget the first time I was able to dunk a basketball. I think were a lot of people go wrong is they believe that jumping only involves making your calves stronger but I think core and upper body strength are equally if not more important. I am taken back by all the negative comments and also the 2.6k dislikes. I think it speaks for humanity and the way they hate other people, especially those who are doing better than they are.

    you don’t need to slam the ball. how hard is a slam? how much pressure is a slam? as long as its his hand that pushes the ball into the basket with a descending trend with enough pressure to see the ball go through smoothly, then its a dunk. if the tip of the hand pushes the ball over the rim that rolls in the hoop then its not a dunk. but this is.

    problem with people posting vids of dunking and how they struggled to be able to do somewhat of a tip-in is, i figured out, that they all do those two really big mistakes 1- dunking of two feet is exremely harder if you are short ( believe me, i'm 5'11 ) than dunking full speed of one foot 2- dunking of a lob ( especially a self-oop ) is the worst way to practice dunking. doing lay-ups with a rim touch, or a soft dunk at first, is the best way to be able to dunk as a 6 fooot and below guy

    VAN1SH1NG AC7 i jump higher off 1 foot too. i honestly believe its because of the constant motion going on. when you run and jump off 1, you keep a speed to leads you up. off two foot, you need to stop your running and then jump, its less efficient imo

  • @joebill5136

    @joebill5136

    You have just never been a 2 footed jumper. 2 footed jumping can become just as efficient, with a lot of practice. Most 2 footed jumpers don't stop then jump, they accelerate through as well, it is just developing the correct pattern, and comfort with it. 2 footed jumping tends to take less speed to jump just as high as 1 footed. Either way will be wack if you aren't comfortable with it though.

    Mathieu St-Gelais just wanted to follow up on all these comments. jumping 1 leg is easier and the reason is simple: because you can use your other leg to gain momentum. you plant on the jumping leg, toss the other leg up in the air, and the inertia propels your whole body upward in one fluid motion. the case for jumping off 2 legs is more power, which is true, and because of these they, for the most part, cancel out on which is more effective. but jumping 1 leg will always be much easier.

From 154lbs now to 190lbs, I can't even barely touch the rim right now 😂 I can tap the board after laying the ball in but the struggle is there, haha! I've read some of the comments and I agree that some are born to jump high and some are not and need to earn it by training. I can say I was born to jump, but lost it by gaining weight and not doing enough exercise. After watching this video, I feel motivated to gain back my vertical. You did great man, even if it took you so long to make your first dunk. Good job!

    Basketball has become so streetball like now. It's quickly losing the fundamentals of how the sport began. Dunking, ankle breakers, etc. The real skill is in the accuracy and precision of shooting the ball. If all shots had to be at least 5 ft from the rim, the basketball playing field would be greatly reduced.

    The dunk wasn’t all that? To who? Him or to you? I think that moment made a difference in his life and he was proud of the sacrifices he made to get that far. Where are the KZread videos of you doing something you worked for? You most likely don’t have any, but you have the nerve to say that what he has done is mediocre. Then on top of that you assume that he did nothing more. You don’t know what else he was able to accomplish in that amount of time. There is a possibility that he doesn’t really give a shit about playing basketball and all he wanted was to get up and dunk. Why don’t you quit being a hater.

I've been working out and slow but steadily working on my jump again to beat the odds.... i can now jump 38 inches high

    Sorry, but this is not really a dunk. The ball would be going anyway in the basket, even if u dont touch it.

    I am 5-11 and I am at this same level as this guy here, but after 8 years without playing. I used to play/jump almost every single day alone (from 2003-2007) and I could easily dunk single handed with jump from one leg. My vertical leap was 70 cm. Now I am 10 kg heavier but also my legs are stronger as I attend gym regularly and I havent lost to much of my jumping abilites. to all you who want to dunk: JUST USE LOWER BASKETBALL RIM. Start with 270 cm heigh rim :).

    Bruh you don't need to dunk to play basketball man. Long as you can shoot, take contact, and finish at the rim you're good. Also need to be a decent defender. Dunking is just a flashy way to get your team and the audience excited.

    Your above the rim and still have a 9'9 vertical? That would mean you reach like above 9 ft.

    Mr. Rainbow Sprinkles 9,9 is almost 10ft so she is quite close, but she still has another 6 to 7 inches to go to get her wrist above the rim

    ^ did this dumbass really think her vertical was 9.9 feet?? If your vertical was 9.9 feet, you could basically jump on a 10ft rim and land on your feet.

    MaximumEfficiency just lower the rim.. who cares... It is that exact mentality that creates a world of lazy people without any desire to better themselves . And on top of that you make excuses to justify not setting higher goals. You missed the point entirely.

    So did squats/leg training help your vertical by a lot or only a little bit? I can dunk at 183cm/6'0 with no training but if training helps me be able to get up even higher than I might start training :)
