Building a New Fish Pond Series: • Building a NEW FISH PO...
Lyndon offers both fish stock for ponds of any sort as well as stocked pond fishing, fly fishing, and fishing of any sort for kids to adults. You can book corporate events, or a day with the kids. Lyndon will show you how to clean the fish and even rent you a rod and real. Just show up and fish! www.lyndonfishhatcheries.com.
The fastest way to dig a big pond is to use the help of a qualified excavator. This excavator normally digs out house foundations and the operator has years of experience digging giant holes in the ground and removing mountains of material.
In the previous episode we had Clarke from Lyndon Trout Ponds and Fish Hatchery measure water quality of our fish pond for oxygen and water temperature. This pond was also monitored year round to see if it holds enough water and has the depth the fish need to stay cold. Rainbow trout need good to excellent water quality and plenty of oxygen. Water flow is an asset to help fish spawn. We discovered that the water in our pond is filled continuously with the help of ground water and is very cold, even in the summer. Trout will die if water gets above 25 degrees Celsius. Shade also helps keep water cool and our pond is sheltered for a good part of the day with trees.
You will need to find out what kind of soil you are working with. Is it clay, clay-loam and sandy loam are best for holding water. You will want to avoid limestone, shale, sand and gravel-they leak. Except in our case since the gravel is actually part of the ground water, which is ideal. You can ask around to find out if your pond will leak or will hold water year round. You don't want your pond to dry up in the middle of the summer.
Aeration of the pond is something we will be exploring as we see how the season develops. We are hopeful that water remains cool so dissolved oxygen in the water remains high.
After we dig the pond, we will let is sit for a few weeks before putting our fish in the pond. Ideally you will let the pond sit for a full year, but we are not patient enough for this.

I'm so truly happy that you are back and producing content again Kevin was the only thing that held me over until you decided that you're health was stable enough to come back
Don’t worry about the negativity. People are just jealous and bitter nowadays. Thanks for all the updates. You’re the man.

I appreciate the updates and stuff. I’ve been watching these videos for so many dang years and he’s just gotten away from the roots of his channel. DONT GET ME WRONG!, I LOVE the builds and updates and humor and all that between all the guys there around the camp and stuff. But what happened to survivalist videos? What happened to just going to the bush with a cooler and your family and having a camp for a night or two? A lot has been filtered out over the years. Whether it be bc you chased what a few comments asked for and got distracted or if maybe you kind of lost sight of what we all started with, WITH YOU so many years ago. I won’t stop watching. I’ll always make sure it plays through and like. Just hope you get back to your roots soon. I know it doesn’t sound like it but, much love, Mr Beardsman.

People need to stop leaving crappy comments. Most of the time it's just bots or mossad agents. Love this channel! This pond could series has been very entertaining and informative. Thanks guys!
Crab butt mentality. LOL! Love that.
I’m 6 days behind on watching this so I hope you read this. Your channel is whatever you want it to be. Those who enjoy it will be here. As for editing…Tell the trolls to do it if they don’t like it lol.
Lastly, you and your brother out so much hard work into this pond and off grid paradise, most people commenting wouldn’t even put 1/10 the effort y’all have. Cheers, my guys.
Thanks guys love watching the pond area taking shape, keep up the good work

Chris I have been watching your video's since the beginning and Kevin's when he started, As someone who suffers from depression and anxiety, both your channels have helped me immensely through some of the darkest periods of my life. Thank you to both of you and just keep being you, by that I mean genuine people trying to share the parts of there life that bring them joy. Thanks again to both of you. Greetings from Australia

Be well Kao.
Piece of friendly Advice. Dissolved Oxygen levels are lowest at night. Also keep in mind bottom up aeration is the best as you mentioned, but keep in mind on hot day above 72F especially, then you are heating up your pond. I would really add pond Dye at least during the summer, blocks out UVs and helps keep the pond cooler. Also let’s the bacteria in the currently break down the sludge etc. And if you are hell bent on Koenders products get there pond care Beneficial Bacteria product.

Thanks for letting me hang out with you guys always a treat for me . Longer videos means more time at the off grid property. I am like minded and enjoy the time you share with me. Please don't change a thing, outdoor lifestyle is good for the soul! All the naysayers need to try this way of life before they say something negative, they just might change their minds. Again thank you.
Great job Guys All the hard work you put in is paying off. Love the Show and thank you for sharing
I’m absolutely amazed at how nice your pond turned out! I don’t understand how people could bash you guys. Boggles my mind because it is so apparent that the job took soooo much hard work! The word “lazy” does not come to mind when watching your or your brother Kevin’s channel. Don’t let the naysayers bother you - those types always come out of the woodwork out of jealousy and/or unfulfilled lives of their own. Keep up the great work! You both have been my favorite channels to watch for a few years now. I always look forward to watching them. 😊

Those fish look pretty happy to me 👍🏿
I'm almost disappointed that you spilled the beans on your grand planning on the pond! one of the things I enjoy about your channel is the story throughout the years and see how you decide to develop and like you said, adapt and overcome. Oh well... It is great to see the fruit of your labors at this point I imagine after all the miserable work on the pond during the Winter. Keep up the great work!

Glad to see you filming and enjoying it. Take care of your health. Your real supporters are here to stay.
You guys did a great job on the pond! What a great solution for the aeration problem and set up to run it 24/7. Congrats on the new sponsor! I've been enjoying the pond series, I'm learning a lot! I always hit play ... but I don't walk away lol
You guys are both awesome. Love the update on the pond. I like that you allow messages, and read them. Keep doing what your doing. The content is incredible and diverse.
You are awesome. Thank you so much for the videos and the entertainment. I have gained a lot of knowledge watching you and your brother
I love your analogy of the crabs in the bucket. That is so reflective of our society today. You’ll keep on doing what you’re doing and I’ll keep watching.
I have been building a 9' x 4' koi pond in my back yard and there is so much you have to do to make sure the fish are happy and thrive. You guys have done an amazing job in addressing all the issues that occur on a way bigger scale than I have had to deal with. I feel your pain and think you guys are doing an awesome job. Keep up the good work and thanks for putting out great content!
I assume the shade comments is the very reason the outdoor boys leaves his turned off. The bearded woodsman is a legend. Keep up the great work .
I can’t believe that anyone would leave negative comments about your site. I love your activities. There’s always something interesting to watch - the pond is amazing. I’m having the same problems with mine - on a MUCH smaller scale. My husband recently left the hose in the pond…..and the chlorine in the town supply killed off 12 of my beautiful gold fish, some as big as 20cm. Heartbreaking. Harold the Heron is my vote. 😊😊😊
Y’all are doing a great job I appreciate your guys time to make these videos for the world to see I’m a real big Fan of your guys channel and zacks keep up the good work guys 🤙🏽
Keep doing what you want . Don't let people get to you. I enjoy your channel and your brothers. Thanks for letting us relax watching you guys.

I may not always watch your videos as soon as they drop, I too am very busy all the time. However, I always watch your videos all the way through and I enjoy your content greatly. Please keep up the great work. ☺ Thanks very much for sharing and Cheers!
The pond is part of homesteading like gardening, and thus a form of wilderness living and survival. I started watching you from the first wilderness living challange, and still enjoy your vision personality and content.
Most people who have put hard work into their own projects will notice the amount of work all of you put into this pond project. Awesome to see things come together! The relationship you have with your brother is really amazing to see too. I love the pond content just as much as the survival content. Just the idea of being more self sustaining is interesting. Gardening, farming animals, fish pond, hunting and cooking is all part of it. If people who are survivalists don’t see the worth of being more self sustaining in modern times are they even true survivalists? I’d watch your content if it involved many things not only survival. Maybe you can surprise us with some different content and see how it does? Love the content both your brother and you put out!! Thank you for entertaining us!!
I enjoy both, keep on keepin on, haters are going to cry no matter what
i really like the in depth explanation of what's upcoming with the pond, it's gonna be great to see the finished product. 🥰🥰
DID I HEAR MAGGOT FEEDER!!!! So excited maggot feeder coming back. That was one of the most amazing way to feed. Great work on the pond guys.
The Pond is looking great, Cheers from Simcoe County Ontario Canada!
Glad to hear you’re thinking of adding a filter and plants to the waterfall. Great way to remove the excess nutrients from the water and reduce algae growth. You should consider adding a UV light into a section of the filter to help with the algae and get your water clearer and hopefully it will not be so green and you’ll get more visibility. Love the pond build so far, great content.
Loving the pond, great job ignore the negatively there probably just jealous. Keep up the good work!
Just subscribed watching from Australia. Found your brothers tiny houses too. Great content 🎉

I love you brothers!! Y’all are the BEST!! Keep on keeping on!!
Great job guys, always a blast of enjoyment to watch the progression. The haters need to build their own pond, film it and make a youtube channel, which will never happen. You guys are stars in my opinon on youtube with all your efforts, I love both your channels and content.
hey !! both you guys are awesome !!! your vids have taught me so much ...even when you don't succeed !! stay bright !
I love the pond updates. Keep it up!! I'm not a tennis player, but I was watching a tennis match while on the treadmill at the gym, and thought of an idea for the pond (yes, I think about YT videos while at the gym. Sue me). Thinking about the shape of the net that spans a tennis court, how about creating a similar net, though smaller in height, and every two weeks or once a month, dragging it across the surface of the pond to remove the accumulation of unwanted aquatic growth?
Idt it’s necessary for you to address negative comments. Hell I’m sure I’ve made some before, but the bottom line is that u guys both entertain me and I keep watching. That’s what matters in the end. Keep the videos coming!!
Great stuff guys. I love the fish pond and the set up is looking good. I had a trout pond in the Edmonton Alberta area it was a lot of fun. We also had a Koenders windmill and an electric pump. Our windmill didn’t run often enough to be very effective. The electric was nice but we tried to winter our fish and humidity in the line would freeze blocking the line. We added an alcohol injection system that would push isopropyl alcohol into the line when pressure built up. That didn’t work very well. As for pond weeds you don’t have to plant any unless it’s a certain kind that you like. Before you know it you’ll have lots of weeds and little fresh water shrimp that will come automatically. Love this content enjoy the pond.
Screw the negative comments you and Kevin keep doing what yous love. I watch all your videos keep up the good work
Think you guys are doing awesome! Learning as you go! You guys will be masters soon! Don’t give up! Love the fish pond videos!
What's up Chris The Pond looks awesome I'll be here watching through thick and thin.
Their are a couple things u could do first thing check ur water ph and see what trout like and adjust accordingly second they make something called stresscoat it helps fish when being moved and finally u can acclimate ur fish to ur water parameters hope that helps
looking good
Great video :) Hope you guys have a great summer ❤
Have you thought of putting a piston pump on the windmill? It could aerate the pond whenever the wind blows.
Love both of your channels. Thanks for all you do
dock would be really awesome and i really enjoyed the vibe sitting in the colourful chairs in the sun beside your fish pond that you created yourself. fantastic
I enjoy your videos keep up the good work. I watched all your videos even the old ones and I am a subscriber to your channel.😊
I like the pond videos it gives me ideas for what I can do for myself as there isn't enough content for small scale ponds in Canada I also enjoy the survival and I just binge watched the cabin build
Sometimes I don't have time to watch a whole video in one sitting. So I watch what I can, and then come back and finish it after my kids go to bed. Hopefully that does not screw with the algorithm for your guys.
Love what your doing. Hope your health issue is getting better. Would love to see yall go to puddle lake agian.
Your videos have been extremely great. No matter wat you do some hater is gonna have an issue. You’re doin right by ignoring them and doin wat you love da way you want to do it. Cause how many gonna come and offer their work and “expertise” free for your content. I would imagine none. Keep Rockin and I’m gonna keep watchin
You guys are doing a great job, stay positive and continue your interesting journeys. Most of us love it. :)
Awesome job guys, I have the space and good springs to feed a nice pond like yours but not the means to do it. Louis is beautiful. She's gonna be fine I think she's just older and a little more comfortable than usual.
Woo! POND UPDATE!! Kinda amazing that any pond sustains itself…. Hope it works!!
Just keep doing what you're doing. I've always enjoyed your videos. I really like when you hunt fish and trap / forage in the same video. You're doing great. Don't let a -holes ruin it for you. You've got to catch a coyote. Lol

Full stop, its great to see the progress you two have made with the pond and keeping those fish alive.
I'm pretty much the exact opposite of an outdoorsman, but I think what you've built is amazing and your vids are killer, no complaints here👍
Hey I'm a big fan and I usually just watch and keep my mouth shut. Who am I to tell another man what to do or what he did wrong not knowing his life experiences. This could all be new to you. Making a remote pond ain't easy alot of factors. Good Job.
i was worried that the fish would get trapped in that area under the logs. but i figured you guys had a plan for that
Watching from Western Australia, The fam and i love you boys. You and Kevin both have great channel’s. 👍🏼😊
You guys are awesome! The pond looks great! Go have a break and come back and break out more incredible content!
My buddy use to have a algae problem, and he took a bunch of old Gatorade bottles, and tied them down a string, and it does the trick. You just run it from one side to the other across the water. Pretty much looks like the ball rope at a beach, not sure what it's called, I do know it's the part you aren't allowed to swim past. Anyway the water naturally moves back and forth and the string collects the algae.
Always full stop! Look forward to the next video👊🏼
big fan from you guys,i enjoy always the Videos you make..................greetings from cuba
